A Bumpy Road to Power

Chapter 340: Unconstrained Imagination

As soon as the reward was announced,

the entire room became excited as if injected with stimulants.

"I really don't know what these people are so excited about. They say it's a reward, but such a great thing, will it really come to us?"

A woman's voice rose from behind.

Dirk Carter turned his head back.

Behind him was a young woman with a decent appearance and temperament.

She seemed to be in her early thirties,

with shoulder-length short hair.

She also wore glasses on her nose bridge.

She wore a black outer shirt with an impressive design, with a white inner layer beneath it, and couldn't see what she was wearing on the bottom.

The woman noticed Dirk Carter looking back.

She smiled slightly.

Her bright eyes and white teeth were quite charming.

"Daisy Young, Deputy Director of Keston City's Cultural and Tourism Bureau."

The woman proactively extended her hand to Dirk Carter.

Since she greeted him, Dirk Carter couldn't ignore her, so he shook her hand and said, "Dirk Carter, Deputy Magistrate of Kenton County."

"How old are you to already be the Deputy Magistrate?"

Daisy Young whispered.

Dirk Carter chuckled and said, "I'm 28 this year."

"28? When I was 28, I was just at the deputy section level."

Daisy Young pouted and said.

Upon hearing this, Dirk Carter said, "Then you getting promoted to deputy department level in a year is quite fast too."

"A year?"

Daisy Young was momentarily stunned.

Then she covered her mouth and started laughing.

She said, "Don't joke around, I'm already 34."

"34? That can't be, I thought you were at most 29."

Hearing this,

Daisy Young giggled.

She said, "You sure know how to talk, surely quite popular with the young girls."

Dirk Carter smiled slightly and asked, "What did Director Young mean earlier by saying such a good thing wouldn't come to us?"

Daisy Young leaned closer to Dirk Carter's ear and said, "The training class at the party school is nothing much. All those 'excellent students', 'best students' titles, are pre-decided, just an excuse and reason to promote those with connections."

"Oh? Is there really such a thing?"

Dirk Carter was surprised and asked.

Daisy Young pointed to a man in the front row and said, "See, the one in the green polo, that's Kim Churchill, also from our Keston City. He's 31 this year and already a district chief in our area. His mother is retired from the provincial level, and his father still works in the ministry. His career is really smooth sailing."

Then,

She pointed to another row where a woman was seated.

The woman had her hair up, and from the back, she didn't look very old.

"See that woman in red? Her name is Ember Bates, she's from Ronan City, and she's climbed up all the way relying on men."

She wanted to continue introducing.

Dirk Carter hurriedly interrupted her and asked, "But this has nothing to do with pre-deciding spots, does it?"

Daisy Young rolled her eyes at him.

She said, "You haven't been in the system long, so you don't understand. We come to the State Political School to learn, it's called 'gilding', also 'escorting'. Those people are the real seed players. The ones I just showed you, those two, they must be among the excellent students, do you believe me?"

"So sure?"

"Don't be skeptical. I'll bet with you. If I lose, I'll treat you to dinner. If you lose, you treat me, okay?"

This woman really wasn't shy.

They hadn't spoken two sentences and were already betting on dinner.

Dirk Carter chuckled and said, "It's my honor to treat a lovely lady to dinner, no need to bet."

"You sure have a sweet mouth."

Daisy Young was flattered to the point of swaying with laughter.

At this moment,

the opening ceremony also announced its end.

The school leaders escorted Rasco Shaw out of the auditorium.

Classes officially begin tomorrow. Today is for the students to rest and adjust their mindset.

Cars slowly drove out of the State Political School gate.

The leftover smile on Rasco Shaw's face instantly vanished.

His secretary, Barry Ford, suddenly turned around and asked, "Leader, is that Dirk Carter we met at the gate today the same Dirk Carter you asked me to investigate before?"

"Yes!"

Rasco Shaw nodded.

Barry Ford was taken aback.

He asked, "Then I don't get it. If it's him, why did you speak up for him and not let Principal Lee punish him for being late?"

Rasco Shaw chuckled, asking, "Barry, you've been with me for eight years now. How come you've made no progress at all?"

Barry Ford scratched his head and said, "Leader's thinking is always so unrestrained. Sometimes, I really don't get it."

Rasco Shaw chuckled again and said, "Punishing for being late is just a minor issue, nothing significant. Me speaking up for Dirk Carter isn't really to help him. It's all for Larry Lewis to see. Next, Larry Lewis will handle him for me."

"But you supported Dirk Carter, so he will assume Dirk Carter is your ally. How would he dare handle Dirk Carter then?"

Barry Ford got even more confused as he listened.

Rasco Shaw looked out of the window and said, "That's why I decided to add an extra 'Best Student Award' for this class..."

...

Back at the school,

after Rasco Shaw's car left,

the smile on Larry Lewis's face immediately disappeared.

He turned to his secretary and said, "Go ask Kim Churchill to come to my office."

A few minutes later,

on the second floor of the school's administration building,

the door to the Executive Vice Principal's office was knocked on.

Kim Churchill, wearing a green polo shirt, pushed the door open and went inside.

"Uncle Lee, you called for me?"

Kim Churchill asked as he plopped down on the sofa.

Larry Lewis's face turned serious.

He said, "I told you before school started, call me Principal Lee at school."

Kim Churchill, nonchalant, said, "Okay, Principal Lee, you wanted to see me?"

"There's an important matter, about the 'Best Student' mention in Rasco Shaw's speech at today's opening ceremony."

"Isn't that a good thing? This way, I'll leap into a deputy department level."

Kim Churchill said somewhat proudly.

Larry Lewis nodded.

He said, "That decision was abruptly announced. Before starting the class, I also didn't get the news. Clearly, this so-called 'Best Student' is prepared for Rasco Shaw's people."

These words immediately alerted Kim Churchill.

He sat up and asked, "Are you saying there's a protégé of Secretary Jiang in this class?"

Larry Lewis frowned and nodded, recounting what happened before the ceremony started.

Kim Churchill's expression also tightened.

He said, "Dirk Carter, I really haven't heard of this name. At 28, he's already Deputy Magistrate. Clearly, someone is backing him. If Secretary Jiang has already reserved this spot for him, then all our efforts are in vain..."

Larry Lewis waved his hand and said, "No, we still have a chance. Even though Secretary Jiang is the principal of the State Political School, he won't be around most of the time. If during this half-year, something happens to Dirk Carter, or some negative issue arises about him, even if Secretary Jiang wants to help him then, he won't be able to. Do you understand what I mean?"

These words brought a devilish smile to Kim Churchill's face.

He nodded and said, "Uncle Lee, I understand, and I know what to do now..."

"Alright, I've said everything I should and shouldn't say. I'm not worried about anything else about you. But your lustful side, in this half-year, change it well. Don't cause any trouble then, okay?"

Larry Lewis said.

Kim Churchill stood up.

Saluted Larry Lewis in an exaggerated manner and playfully said, "Uncle Lee, don't worry, I promise not to cause trouble."

After speaking,

he almost fled.

However, he didn't return to the dormitory.

Instead, he headed straight to the teaching building.

Teaching hasn't begun today, so the entire teaching building was empty.

He climbed to the third floor in one go.

Looking around to see no one else,

he gently opened the classroom door.

Inside, a woman in a red shirt was sitting at the podium.

Kim Churchill licked his lips, rubbed his hands, gently closed the door, and lecherously called out, "Baby, I'm here..."
