A Bumpy Road to Power

Chapter 41: Ingenious Tactics

Yes, you read that right, it's three women.

I've seen elaborate games, but never one played this flamboyantly.

When Dirk Carter and the disciplinary team barged into the room.

The three women were stacked like a totem on the bed, and Gilroy Thompson was selecting a target with his tools.

Such a scene.

Also shocked the cadres of the disciplinary team.

The sudden intrusion of so many people.

Only startled Gilroy Thompson for a moment.

He soon acted very normally.

Wrapped a bath towel around himself.

Sat on a sofa to the side, crossed his legs, lit a cigarette, and took a deep drag.

"What? Director Wagner, your disciplinary team is coming after me?"

Faced with Colette Wagner, Gilroy Thompson showed utter disdain.

"Gilroy Thompson, you better show some respect."

Colette Wagner said angrily.

Gilroy Thompson sneered and said, "Respect? Respect is mutual. It's not that I look down on you, Colette Wagner, even if you are a bureau leader, you can't do anything to me."

"What about me?"

Dirk Carter, who had stood silently at the back of the crowd all this time, now spoke up.

Seeing Gilroy Thompson's arrogance.

He had to step forward.

"Who are you to interrupt?"

At this point, Gilroy Thompson hadn't realized that this operation was orchestrated by Dirk Carter.

Dirk Carter strolled casually to the front.

And said, "I'm neither garlic nor green onion; my name is Dirk Carter."

Dirk Carter?

Hearing this name, the previously calm Gilroy Thompson suddenly jolted, causing the long ash from his cigarette to fall onto the bath towel.

He gave Dirk Carter a somewhat incredulous look.

Then suddenly burst out laughing.

"What are you laughing at?"

Dirk Carter asked.

Gilroy Thompson put out his cigarette and said, "I was wondering why the disciplinary team was poking its nose into my business, so it's actually Director Carter's doing. Brilliant, really brilliant. It seems Director Carter is quite bold—on your first day reporting to work, you're going after Gilroy Thompson, huh?"

To dare speak such words to the Deputy Director.

This shows that Gilroy Thompson was quite confident.

He pulled out a cigarette again.

Just as he was about to light it.

He seemed to recall something.

And said, "Director Carter doesn't really think that such a petty trick can take me down, does he? Who in the bureau doesn't know that I have already divorced? Sleeping with women doesn't seem illegal, right?"

"Of course, it's not illegal. Chief Thompson is just full of energy. However, we are here for something else."

Hearing this.

Gilroy Thompson paused his action of lighting the cigarette.

Dirk Carter smiled slightly and said, "Chief Thompson should remember Brigham Langdon, right?"

As soon as the name Brigham Langdon was mentioned.

Gilroy Thompson tensed up briefly.

Then quickly regained his composure and said, "I know him, of course. He tried for that electrician operation certificate three times and failed, then caused a scene at our unit."

"Then Chief Thompson should also know he was assaulted, right?"

"Whether he was assaulted or not, what does it have to do with me? What a joke."

Gilroy Thompson replied.

Dirk Carter nodded.

Said, "Chief Thompson's attitude is really strong. But I wonder if those people who paid for certificates, with such a large number, would have psychological resilience as good as Chief Thompson's?"

This sentence hit the nail on the head.

Gilroy Thompson suddenly stood up.

Smashed the cigarette in his hand onto the ground.

Pointing at Dirk Carter, he said, "Dirk Carter, you've grabbed my deputy director position, and now you're trying to take me down? Do you really think I'm afraid of you?"

"Director Wagner, take him away. He can explain at the disciplinary committee."

Dirk Carter didn't want to argue with him.

He directly issued the order for arrest.

A few members of the disciplinary team immediately rushed forward and apprehended Gilroy Thompson.

Even in face of such a situation.

Gilroy Thompson remained arrogant.

He cursed at Dirk Carter with all sorts of vile words.

Just as everyone was dragging Gilroy Thompson towards the door, there was suddenly a coughing sound at the entrance.

Then, an authoritative voice asked, "I dare anyone to take him away!"

At the doorway.

Unnoticed, someone had already been standing there.

A man about the same age as Dirk Carter.

With slicked-back hair, wearing an administrative jacket, and although shorter than Dirk Carter, he possessed a natural air of command born from long experience in the political arena.

Initially, the people holding Gilroy Thompson suddenly let go of him.

"Oh, it's Director Meyer. Director Meyer surely is making thunderous moves. You haven't even officially taken office, but you're preparing to make a big splash?"

It was Adair Meyer speaking.

Seeing Adair Meyer suddenly arrive.

Dirk Carter instantly understood something.

It seemed that Colette Wagner might not be reliable either.

"Oh, Director Meyer, what a surprise. Were you staying in the neighboring room as well?"

When Dirk Carter asked this.

Adair Meyer's expression turned a bit sour.

For his sudden arrival, it was either due to an internal tip-off or being nearby.

If it was the room next door, wouldn't that imply he was also involved in the same activities as Gilroy Thompson?

"I was just passing by and saw our Work Safety Administration's vehicles, so I came over to check."

Adair Meyer's response was quick.

Dirk Carter nodded and said, "Director Meyer, you're just in time. Somebody in our bureau is dealing in special industry qualification certificates. How do you think this matter should be handled?"

"Oh? Such a thing? Director Carter, that's a serious matter. Do you have evidence?"

Asked Adair Meyer.

Dirk Carter smiled slightly.

Took three exam results of Brigham Langdon from Bluegreen and handed them over.

Just as he was about to explain the whole situation.

Adair Meyer, upon receiving the papers, immediately tore them apart with a ripping sound.

Bluegreen was alarmed.

She wanted to rush over and snatch them back but was stopped by Dirk Carter.

Adair Meyer then took a lighter from his pocket, and with complete disregard, set the torn papers on fire.

Then he tossed them into the restroom by the entrance.

Clapping his hands, he asked Dirk Carter, "Where is the evidence?"

Well, wasn't that bold.

Witnessing such blatant audacity was a first for Dirk Carter, a Deputy Director of the Work Safety Administration destroying evidence openly was stretching his understanding.

"Right, where's the evidence? Where is the evidence you mentioned?"

Adair Meyer's actions.

Instantly emboldened Gilroy Thompson.

He pointed at Dirk Carter and started yelling.

"He burned the evidence!"

Bluegreen shouted angrily.

Adair Meyer grinned and asked, "I burned the evidence? Who saw it? Did you?"

He directed his question at the members of the Work Safety Administration present in the room. Although they clearly saw it, none dared to speak up, each lowering their heads.

Adair Meyer snorted and said, "See, nobody saw me destroy any evidence. Young lady, you shouldn't make false accusations."

Bluegreen was fuming with anger.

She was nearly steaming out of her nostrils.

"Good, good, good. Director Meyer, you're skillful indeed. I am impressed."

Upon hearing Dirk Carter say this.

Adair Meyer assumed he had given in, feeling very satisfied.

He disdainfully smiled.

And said, "Director Carter, since you're in our Work Safety Administration, you should follow our rules. I, Adair Meyer, don't like troublesome people. Regardless of whether you were a dragon or phoenix before, now that you're in my domain, you'd better behave; otherwise, you truly won't last long here."
