A Bumpy Road to Power

Chapter 403: Opening the Door to Welcome Guests

Dirk Carter stepped out of the room.

Maeve Winters approached him.

She glanced at the tightly closed door and asked with a smile, "Did you take care of it?"

Dirk Carter gave her a look and quickly said, "Let's talk business."

Maeve Winters stuck out her tongue and said, "Benson Caldwell didn't confess."

"It's normal for him not to confess, how about other aspects, are we ready?"

Maeve Winters said, "Everyone is prepared according to the plan, just waiting for their arrival now."

Just as she finished speaking.

The sound of police sirens came from outside the yard.

Dirk Carter smiled slightly and said aloud, "Everyone get ready, open the door and welcome our guests."

At the entrance of Clearspring Manor.

Several cars came to a stop.

Followed by seven or eight police cars.

The door of the first car opened, and Delbert Stone, Secretary of Ardmore City's Political and Legal Affairs Committee, stepped out.

The door of the second car opened, and Anselm Hall, Director of Customs of Ardmore City, along with Zachary Ford, also got out in succession.

After the doors of the other police cars opened, heavily armed officers quickly formed up, awaiting orders.

Just as Dirk Carter predicted.

Conway Sawyer wouldn't show up in this situation.

He didn't want to get caught in the fire.

The manor's previously tightly shut gate creaked open.

Suddenly, Dirk Carter appeared at the entrance, followed by only two people, Arlo Yarbrough and Aziel Grant.

Delbert Stone had intended to discuss strategies with Anselm Hall but hadn't expected Dirk Carter to open the door directly, leaving them stunned and making them turn to look.

"Oh, Secretary Stone and Director Hall, why are you here?"

Dirk Carter pretended to be surprised.

Anselm Hall took a step forward.

He pulled out an official document.

He read aloud, "Following the research and decision by the Ronan City Customs Party Committee, Comrade Dirk Carter acts with blatant disregard for laws and regulations, always doing as he pleases and seriously violating Party discipline and state laws. It is now decided to remove Dirk Carter from the positions of Ardmore City Customs Party Committee member and Deputy Director, effective immediately!"

After he finished speaking.

He stepped forward.

And handed the paper to Dirk Carter.

He said, "Comrade Dirk Carter, you have been dismissed. Release the people immediately."

Dirk Carter glanced at the official document.

With a ripping sound, he tore it into pieces.

This scene enraged Anselm Hall, who shouted angrily, "Comrade Dirk Carter, you need to take responsibility for your actions."

Dirk Carter smiled slightly and asked, "Release the people? What people?"

"Don't play dumb, isn't Benson Caldwell from Aether Group inside? Release him immediately!"

Zachary Ford shouted as he stepped forward.

Dirk Carter scratched his head and said, "Executive Benson? Oh, you're here for Executive Benson. This is his home, why would you want me to release him?"

Seeing him still stalling.

Delbert Stone couldn't hold it anymore either.

He stepped forward.

And said, "Dirk Carter, I order you as the Secretary of Ardmore City's Political and Legal Affairs Committee to release the people immediately, or else, don't blame me for being rude."

As soon as he finished speaking this.

Dirk Carter's gaze turned cold, "Rude? Secretary Stone, show me what you call rude."

"Well, well, Dirk Carter, you truly have nerves of steel…" Delbert Stone turned and looked at the assembled police force, ordering, "On my command, arrest Dirk Carter."

"Yes!"

As soon as he finished speaking.

A few police officers started moving towards Dirk Carter.

Dirk Carter remained unfazed.

He took a step back.

Waiting by the wall, Maeve Winters led the members of Kenton County's Criminal Police Squad to swiftly intercept between Dirk Carter and the police officers.

As soon as they appeared.

The police officers stopped in their tracks, feeling uncertain.

"Maeve Winters? What are you doing here?"

Being the Secretary of the Political and Legal Affairs Committee, Delbert Stone knew Maeve Winters from her time at the city police department.

Maeve Winters smiled faintly and said, "Good day, Secretary Stone, I'm leading a squad executing official duties."

"Executing official duties? What duties are you executing? Immediately withdraw your people or I'll dismiss you right now."

Delbert Stone shouted angrily.

At this moment, Helen Fletcher walked out slowly.

Seeing Helen Fletcher.

Delbert Stone was taken aback once more.

Helen Fletcher calmly said, "Secretary Stone, Maeve Winters currently falls under our Kenton County's jurisdiction. Dismissing her might not be so easy, right?"

"Helen Fletcher, you're causing trouble too? Do you even know what you're doing?"

Delbert Stone shouted.

Helen Fletcher said, "Of course, cracking down on smuggling, right? Any issues with that?"

"You…"

Delbert Stone was momentarily speechless.

He now understood.

No wonder Dirk Carter was so fearless. So these two, Helen Fletcher and Maeve Winters, were backing him.

He nodded slightly.

And said, "Fine, if you all want to make a scene, I'll indulge you today. All units, on my command, forcefully assault the manor!"

Upon Delbert Stone's order.

Dirk Carter shouted, "Everyone, on my command, if anyone dares to break through, feel free to open fire."

"Yes!"

Maeve Winters and her team responded in unison.

The first to take action was Maeve Winters.

She directly pulled out the gun from her waist and held it in her hand.

This scene instantly escalated the situation.

Delbert Stone was furious, almost exploding with anger.

He shouted, "Dirk Carter, this is mutiny! You'll be responsible for all consequences! You have guns, do you think the city police don't? Besides, how many men can your county department have? Do you really think I can't force my way in?"

"It's not just one county department, it's two."

Right after Delbert Stone finished speaking.

Dahlia Hughes stepped forward through the crowd.

"Deputy Minister Hughes? You're involved too?"

Delbert Stone was stunned.

Dahlia Hughes smiled slightly and gestured behind her, saying, "Not only Kenton County, but Stillwater County Police Department is here too. Do you want to see whose force is stronger, the city or our counties?"

Delbert Stone looked through the human barrier and glimpsed inside the yard.

Turns out it wasn't empty talk.

Inside, rows of police officers stood, matching the numbers of those he brought.

Which means a forceful assault is nearly impossible too.

Equal in power, neither side superior.

Delbert Stone dared not take the risk.

He could only threaten, "Fine, just wait."

He finished speaking and turned to make a call.

Dirk Carter didn't want to waste words with him, so he said aloud, "Close the door."

With a creaking sound.

The manor's gate closed.

Dirk Carter understood that Delbert Stone was merely a lightweight among Benson Caldwell's numerous white gloves, larger figures had not yet arrived. His purpose was simple: to make these individuals appear one by one.

"Did you get it all on camera?"

Dirk Carter turned and asked a young, adorable girl.

She was Dorothy.

Dorothy smiled slightly and said, "Don't worry, all the camera positions are working fine. If this case really gets made in the future, the material will be enough to edit an earth-shattering documentary."

"Great work."

Dirk Carter patted her shoulder.

He casually grabbed a bottle of mineral water.

Pushed open the "interrogation room" door.

Placed the water in front of Benson Caldwell, asking, "You should have seen it all just now, right?"

Benson Caldwell asked disdainfully, "Do you think you've won? I'm curious to see how you'll handle the pressure coming your way."
