A Bumpy Road to Power

Chapter 75: Incognito Inspection

"I've suddenly decided to go to Tea Hill Village."

Dirk Carter said.

Zach Griffin was not too surprised by this decision, he just uttered an "oh" and then turned the motorcycle in another direction.

This result made Dirk very satisfied.

Having just arrived in Sunglow Town, where everything was unfamiliar, the town government was practically under Tristan Reid's control, and Dirk was still unsure where Deon Lewis stood.

Yesterday, he purposely told Zach Griffin that he was going to Pinegrove Village; he wanted to see if Zach was a pawn placed beside him by someone.

Judging from Zach's current reaction, he should not have betrayed him.

Before heading out.

Zach emphasized how powerful this motorcycle was.

And indeed, the power was impressive.

When Zach twisted the throttle to unleash the beast's power.

Dirk watched as a man on a bicycle passed them leisurely, humming a tune.

The term "sped past" must be used.

Because the speed difference was too obvious.

After the man completed the overtaking, Zach felt disgraced too, leaning forward like a racer to demonstrate true skills.

The motorcycle protested, shaking violently.

No other choice.

Zach had to give up.

"Hey Zach, can we make it by dark at our current speed?"

Dirk asked.

Zach gritted his teeth, saying, "Leader, rest assured, it's less than twenty kilometers to Tea Hill Village, we'll get there before dark."

Dirk looked at the recently risen sun.

He said, "Zach, how about we hitch a ride on a tractor going to Tea Hill Village?"

"Leader, aren't you slapping me in the face? Sit tight, I'm going to speed up."

After saying that.

Vroom... Vroom... Vroom...

The motorcycle began to roar fiercely.

Scaring Dirk into quickly hugging Zach's waist.

Then, with a loud bang, black smoke spewed from the exhaust pipe, and the motorcycle stalled completely, not moving at all.

Even so, Zach didn't give up, crouching down to check, repeatedly assuring Dirk that he would fix it soon.

In the end, the two still ended up hitching a ride on a tractor heading to Tea Hill Village.

Having set out early in the morning, by the time they got off in Tea Hill Village, it was already close to noon.

This time coming to Tea Hill Village.

Dirk just wanted to stroll around casually and observe.

First, to assess the tea plantation scale of Tea Hill Village, and secondly, to see how the villagers were living, and thirdly, he wanted to personally inquire from the villagers about the land occupation situation by Pinegrove Village.

Tea Hill Village is the second largest village in Sunglow Town.

It has over 1,500 households, with a population of around 6,000 people.

Compared to four or five years ago, these numbers are at least two thousand less.

Walking into the village.

Most households are still simple brick-and-tile houses.

Some are even still wooden structures, posing great safety hazards.

Dirk, led by Zach, also looked at the basic facilities like Tea Hill Elementary School; Caroline Lynch wasn't wrong, nearly all resources were tilted towards Pinegrove Village.

He had read in reports that three years ago, Pinegrove Elementary had completed its new teaching building project, the school not only had a plastic track, multimedia classrooms, and a new library, even the cafeteria standards were higher than their town government's.

As for the present Tea Hill Elementary, its main building was a two-story dilapidated building.

Forget about multimedia classrooms and a library, even the playground wasn't paved; it was full of pits and bumps, likely unusable in rain.

The disparity was really huge.

As for other municipal constructions, it was a world of difference.

As a provincial-level model rural area.

Pinegrove Village had parks, fitness equipment, streetlights, and surveillance, whereas Tea Hill Village seemed at least thirty years behind.

"Zach, have you heard about that armed conflict between the two villages four years ago?"

"At that time, I was still in university, hadn't graduated yet, but I did hear my parents mention it."

Zach said.

"Oh? And from your parents' perspective, what was the cause of the conflict?"

Dirk asked.

Zach thought for a moment and said, "There are always two versions, nobody knows what's real, most people say that people from Tea Hill Village were jealous and wanted to seize Pinegrove Village's bamboo forest to plant tea, instigating the conflict."

"And what's the other version?"

"The other version, spoken in secret, is that Pinegrove Village wanted to forcibly occupy Tea Hill Village's mountain slope and dug up ancestral graves of a family surnamed Cui in Tea Hill Village, which led to the violent backlash from the Cui family."

Both versions also matched what Dirk had heard before.

It seems there's indeed a big hidden story behind this incident.

"Let's go, let's take a look at the tea garden."

The two walked one in front of the other.

Headed on foot towards the tea garden in Tea Hill Village.

As far as the eye could see.

A sea of green was all around.

The sight was refreshing and heart-relieving.

Although it wasn't the harvest season, the air was filled with the fragrant scent of tea leaves, soothing Dirk's previously gloomy mood.

"Leader, look over there."

Suddenly.

Zach pointed towards a small path.

Dirk squinted his eyes for a better look.

He saw a black sedan parked in the middle of the road, and a young man in a suit seemed to be making a phone call.

"Let's go check it out."

The reason for their suspicion.

Was the fact that the road here wasn't suited for cars, once a car drove in, there was no room to turn around.

Moreover, walking along the way.

It was the first sedan they had seen in Tea Hill Village.

Getting closer for a clearer view.

Dirk increasingly felt it looked familiar.

He suddenly remembered, wasn't this black sedan the one that came with Dahlia Hughes' Coaster yesterday?

Why was it showing up here?

The man in a black suit next to the car must be the driver.

He kept fiddling with his phone.

Seeming quite anxious.

Looking at the sedan again.

A tire was stuck in the mud, and from the mud splattered on the body, it's evident the car had stalled.

"Buddy, there's no signal here."

Dirk said.

The young driver glanced at Dirk, asking, "Hey, is there any fixed phone nearby?"

"There should be something in the village."

Dirk pointed into the distance.

The young man gazed towards the distance, saying, "Hey, I'm totally unfamiliar with this place and can't find the village. Could you all please take me there?"

After saying this.

He suddenly remembered something.

He reached into his pocket, pulling out a hundred yuan note and holding it out to Dirk, saying, "Help me out, my car's stuck, and I need immediate assistance."

"No need for the money, Zach, take this guy to the village, I'll wait here for you."

"Alright."

Zach agreed, quickly taking the driver downhill.

Dirk crouched down, pressing his face against the car window to take a look inside.

He saw that it was empty inside.

Could it be the big boss didn't come up the mountain?

While pondering what's going on, suddenly a cry for help reached his ears.

The sound of the cry was faint.

It seemed to be coming from a tea garden hill ahead.

Though it wasn't very clear, Dirk could still discern that the person calling for help was a woman.
