Leaving the vicinity of the teleportation point, Jeming relied on the Moving Talisman Witchcraft to swiftly traverse the vast wilderness of the Barbaric Plane.
The gray rocky ground below, twisted ancient vegetation, and occasionally fleeting exotic beasts together painted a picture of this world that was both primitive and perilous.
He had no specific destination; each move was made to find suitable "experimental subjects" and environments for the upcoming field tests.
The first encounter was with a group of beasts resembling enlarged lizards, their bodies covered in hard keratin that could spew corrosive acid from their mouths.
The group, composed of seven or eight, crouched in the gaps of the forest, their massive and moss-covered bodies camouflaged as large rocks, lying in wait to ambush any passing creatures.
Upon spotting these creatures from the air, Jeming halted the Moving Talisman and lightly descended to the ground.
He did not hide but walked straight towards their lurking zone.
The first Lizard Beast launched an attack, shooting a stream of green acid at him.
With a thought, Jeming fully activated his previously concealed Shield, instantly condensing a thick, earthy-hued shield around him.
Sizzle!
The acid splashed onto the shield, producing a piercing corrosion sound and sending up clouds of steam.
The surface of the shield remained unchanged as acid continuously dripped off, falling to the ground.
"No damage to the Shield... No energy enhancement, just a purely corrosive liquid?"
More acid attacks followed, prompting Jeming to switch his defensive talisman to a Wind Element Shield.
An invisible wind membrane flowed over his body, and the subsequent acid, upon contact with it, was deftly deflected to either side, shooting harmlessly into the air.
The acid mist rising from the corroded land was also blown away by the currents generated by the Wind Shield.
"Against such low-impact kinetic attacks, the deflection effect of the Wind Element Shield works better than expected and is especially effective against vapor-based attacks."
Realizing their attacks were futile, the Lizard Beasts rushed out of their hiding spots, intending to attack directly.
Seizing the timing, Jeming activated his attack Talisman Witchcraft.
Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!
Four consecutive fireballs formed at his fingertips in less than a second, shooting out at an incredible speed toward the leading beasts.
The violent Fire Element caused the fireballs to expand mid-flight, their power astounding.
Four of the beasts were engulfed by consecutive explosions before they could even get close, letting out only a brief, anguished wail before turning into charcoal and scraps.
The remaining lizards were frightened by the scene and attempted to flee without hesitation.
Jeming did not relent, advancing while adjusting the attack talisman's output frequency, striving for even more extreme rapid fire.
The Talisman Witchcraft grew slightly warm but could still maintain a fireball release rate of three to four times per second.
Moving like a walking turret, Jeming accurately picked off the remaining Lizard Beasts one by one.
The battle... or rather, the slaughter ended in an extremely short time.
Jeming stepped closer, using Deciphering Skill and Alchemy to scan the remains and collect some keratin samples and residual acid.
"The instantaneous and rapid-fire capabilities of the attack talisman far exceed those of an ordinary wizard, but under high-frequency use, the heating speed of the talisman itself is a bit faster than in the training ground. It might be due to the plane's overly active elements, which increase ignition efficiency but prevent energy dissipation from keeping up with material heat release."
Analyzing in his mind, Jeming considered, "Perhaps I should think of a way to add cooling or energy buffering structures to the talisman materials?"
Restarting the Moving Talisman, he left the Lizard Beasts' lair.
Delving deeper into the forest, Jeming soon encountered another kind of large beast, although it moved with exceptional agility.
These beasts resembled giant apes in appearance but had an insect-like head growing on their shoulders.
Possessing tremendous physical strength, they excelled at leaping and climbing across rocky cliffs, their attacks powerful and fierce.
Jeming selected a solitary giant ape as his target.
Instead of attacking directly, he lured it into a chase, weaving through the complex terrain to test the Moving Talisman's performance in evasion and direction-changing.
The giant ape bellowed and pursued from behind, launching attacks from above or the sides.
Using the Moving Talisman, Jeming would sometimes glide close to the ground, sometimes leap into the air, or occasionally borrow strength from cliff faces, with each change of direction as smooth as flowing water.
While evading, Jeming attempted to push the Moving Talisman's power to its limits.
Wind Elements formed a visibly swirling vortex around him, his speed accelerating once more.
Yet, maintaining such extreme speed for less than a minute led the Moving Talisman to emit an overloaded buzzing sound, its rune patterns heating intensely.
He had to immediately reduce power to let it cool down.
"The Moving Talisman far surpasses the standard Flying Skill in basic speed and maneuverability, but its high-speed endurance is a weak point. The duration of its extreme state is notably inferior to a wizard's self-cast Flying Skill," he concluded.
After all, one relies on material buffering, while the other depends on the wizard's own Sea of Spirit for guidance, showing significant differences.
Upon fully understanding the Moving Talisman's limits, Jeming switched from defense to offense, casting several full-power fireballs that brought the massive body of the giant ape crashing down under sustained assaults.
Jeming moved forward to collect materials.
The giant ape's fur and bone density were remarkably high, possibly useful for improving Defensive Talisman Witchcraft.
In the days that followed, Jeming conducted his "experiments" in different regions of the Barbaric Plane.
He faced pangolin-like beasts capable of underground ambushes, attempting to use Alchemy to decipher the geological structure to aid in locating them, and manipulating the Fireball Technique to turn the ground into a sea of flames to flush them out.
He also encountered various strange plants that would emit poisonous mist or ensnare prey, adding numerous novel materials to his collection.
Each battle, each encounter, served as a performance test for the Talisman Witchcraft devices.
He continuously pushed the limits of Talisman Witchcraft, recording data and analyzing results.
Apart from the usual cooling issues, he also noted another limitation of the Talisman Witchcraft—area elemental depletion.
During an intense and sustained Fireball Technique assault, he sensed the nearby Fire Elements being rapidly drained, causing subsequent fireball talisman activation to drop significantly in efficiency and power.
Even though the Talisman Witchcraft boasted performance far beyond its peers, under prolonged high-intensity use, it exhibited obvious limits; it was not truly "unlimited energy" but rather shifted the energy source from within the artifact to the external environment.
Once the elemental power in an area was drained, although surrounding elements would quickly gather, the concentration would remain relatively low for a short period.
For this, Jeming didn't have a good solution at the moment, and could only choose to move quickly while casting witchcraft.
