Cultivating in the Wizard World

Chapter 63: Advancement

In the laboratory, various alchemy equipment and rune carving knives were neatly arranged.

"We can't completely replicate the runes of the Wizard System..." Jeming picked up a stone capable of absorbing energy, then retrieved a crystal sensitive to life fluctuations.

"Then we'll have to refer to the method cultivators use in the Cultivation Immortality System to connect with external entities..."

He engraved a rune that senses life fluctuations onto the crystal and a linkage rune modified from the Cultivation Immortality System onto the stone. Then, he connected them with a conductive rune.

On the first attempt, the crystal cracked.

On the second attempt, the stone emitted a strong energy fluctuation, even more noticeable than the detected life fluctuation itself.

"The direction seems off," Jeming wiped the sweat from his forehead.

Although he successfully established a link with the crystal, the stone itself did not understand what "life" was. Even if a life fluctuation sensing rune was drawn, it merely emitted a detection wave.

To continue the research, he needed to find a more efficient method of differentiation.

Jeming revisited his materials and happened across a theory about "Plane Resonance" on the Magic Net. Though obscure and difficult to understand, it mentioned that any substance in a plane's deep structure would produce a weak resonance with other substances, thereby perceiving each other.

An inspiration flashed in Jeming's mind.

Resonance!

What if instead of actively emitting detection waves, he utilized this passive resonance?

"Resonance..." he murmured to himself.

Perhaps the concept of "perception" could be combined with a material that resonates with specific waves. Then, using runes to capture and amplify this resonance, storing the amplified "information" inside a witchcraft artifact, or transmitting it discreetly in some way.

He began redesigning the runes, making "passive resonance" and "perception capture" the core.

Time flew by as Jeming immersed himself in his research.

On one quiet night.

Jeming, in the laboratory, carefully embedded a complex array of over a dozen small runes into a nail-sized transparent crystal.

The crystal was a special material he refined using the Refining Method from the Great Dao Book Pavilion, sensitive to energy fluctuations and embodying part of the "perception" concept.

He activated the talisman, producing no sound or energy spikes, the crystal merely quivered slightly.

Jeming closed his eyes, sensing with his spiritual power.

Initially, there was nothing.

But he did not give up. Based on what he had learned before, he established a deeper "resonant" connection between his soul and the crystal.

Then, he "felt" it.

A faint, indistinct fluctuation emanated from the crystal—it was the life aura of a few plants stored in the laboratory's storage room!

He succeeded!

Though very weak, very vague, and with a small range, he successfully refined a prototype talisman witchcraft artifact capable of passive perception through a soul link!

This prototype artifact looked like a small transparent eyeball, capable of floating in the air, sensing life and energy fluctuations within a limited range, and transmitting this vague information to Jeming through resonance.

"Let's call it the Eye of Scouting. It's crude, but the direction is right," Jeming's eyes sparkled with excitement.

In the days following, Jeming began optimizing this Eye of Scouting.

He experimented with different materials, improved the rune structure, added stealth runes, aiming to enhance its sensing range and clarity, while reducing its energy emissions to make it harder to detect.

Through repeated trials and errors, his understanding of runes and energy deepened.

This in-depth research inadvertently led him to the threshold of his Qi Cultivation advancement.

"Just as well, my current cultivation level is somewhat insufficient,"

Jeming felt many ideas brewing in his mind, yet he was limited by his cultivation level.

Due to a binding contract, advancing in the Wizard System to an Official Wizard was not feasible, but the Cultivation Immortality System had no such restrictions.

Now, it's time to attempt a breakthrough.

...

...

Qi Cultivation Seventh Layer signifies stepping into the Qi Cultivation Late-stage, marked not only by a significant increase in True Essence amount but also by a leap in Divine Sense strength and range.

Jeming felt his cultivation was right on the verge, having honed his True Essence and soul repeatedly over a long period; they felt like a fully drawn bowstring ready to release at any moment.

In the training room, he adjusted the element particle concentration to the maximum via the control terminal, then sat cross-legged, ready to attempt the breakthrough.

With his eyes closed, he devoted himself entirely to channeling his True Essence and Divine Sense.

His True Essence, like a tranquil lake, was stirred by an unseen force, starting to churn.

Following the guidance of his cultivation technique, he gathered and compressed the vast True Essence, launching it toward a higher energy level.

This was no easy task.

Each compression came with a slight tingling in the meridians, and every surge tested his resolve.

Not every compression was effective; occasionally, the True Essence inside rebounded like a storm, causing the meridians to rumble deeply.

Jeming's forehead beaded with fine sweat, yet his resolve never wavered; his spiritual power acted like a powerful compressor in relentless attempts.

Eventually, for either a day or perhaps longer.

Crack!

A faint, glass-breaking sound echoed within Jeming's perception.

His True Essence was no longer constrained, joyfully surging into broader meridians as if discovering a new world.

The total True Essence instantaneously boomed, becoming more substantial, flowing like mercury.

What delighted Jeming even more was the explosive growth of his spiritual power.

Originally covering a range of less than a hundred meters, it now effortlessly extended several hundred meters!

Everything around him appeared with unprecedented clarity in his perception.

The lab's faint energy hums, the crisp cracking of stones, even the winding roots of some plant materials underground... all these minute details came into his mind as if magnified.

The world seemed more vivid at this moment, filled with innumerable "lines" and "veins" to perceive.

The tremendously expanded spiritual power even made his perception of surrounding elements much sharper, able to easily discern different types, concentrations, and even their weak "emotions"—active, dormant, agitated...

He successfully advanced to the Qi Cultivation Seventh Layer, officially stepping into the Qi Cultivation Late-stage!

Feeling the surging True Essence within and the radiating spiritual power, Jeming smiled with satisfaction.

This surge in power was far more apparent than any previous advancement.

Right after advancing, Jeming thought of his research on the scouting talisman witchcraft artifact.

With his current cultivation, he should be able to create a better prototype.
