War, Blood, Greed and Nuclear Blast

Chapter 23: Inner Space

Every person could become an Origin by creating or receiving their first Epos. His power would grow by exploring the world, creating new histories, and, in rare cases, even the Records.

But all of this was merely the potential of an Origin, and was not a direct reflection of his power. After all, if the difference in power was too great, nothing but pure energy mattered.

If instead of the Remnant Guard or even the Crystal Golem, there had been a stronger monster, then instead of victory and the Echo, Kreyn and the others would have simply died. They wouldn't even have graves, the monster or Remnant would have simply consumed their bodies.

Then, what created this difference?

Well, right now, Kreyn was looking at the answer to that question. He was seeing it for the first time, although he had heard about it from Judith before.

"What the hell is this?"

Amidst the darkness, Kreyn stood before a massive object resembling something between a spine and a tree trunk. This object was the size of a building, and it would take several people to surround it.

The object was dark and tall, towering over Kreyn, while purple energy swirled around the sharp edges of the grim monolith.

A shiver ran through Kreyn's body as his eyes widened, for he realized what it was. The world energy no longer helped him. He just remembered Judith's words before they attacked the Crystal Golem.

"Is this the Bridge? My Bridge?"

Tremble. Tremble. Tremble.

At the same moment, space trembled as countless runes appeared in the darkness, forming a fast-moving white ring that soared around the Bridge.

Each rune had some meaning, for they were Kreyn's Epos, Record, and all the information about his abilities, from his Catalyst and Spark to the Script.

This ring was nothing less than the Manifest.

Now, Kreyn looked at the foundation of his power, everything he accomplished since becoming an Origin. It was a reflection of himself.

As soon as Kreyn realized this, several symbols headed towards him.

[Name: Kreyn

Manifest: First

Bridge: Initial

Catalyst: Hunger of War (Arx Type)

Epos: Nuclear Blast

Record: Sacrificial Worm.]

"Wow... That's quite a lot of information, and even so, it's hardly everything, right?" Kreyn muttered.

Judging by Judith's reaction and the magnitude of the event, he understood that having a Record at such an early stage was very rare. If he didn't have one, the corresponding line would not appear in his status.

It was important to understand that Kreyn, Judith, and everyone else were at the lowest level. The First Manifest and Initial Bridge were just the beginning of the journey.

However, even between beings of the same level, there could be a great difference in strength, influenced by many factors. If the two Origins were fighting, their Catalyst Type, their histories, as well as their experience and basic skills were important. When monsters entered the battle, their bloodline, natural talent, and species were decisive factors.

After a few moments, Kreyn nodded as he understood the differences between the two components of his power.

"I see. So the Bridge contains my energy, my pure power, which determines my speed, striking power, physical strength, and so on. At the same time, the Manifest contains all my histories and abilities. Great, now I understand."

With a slight tremble, the Fractal appeared before Kreyn. Now it was part of his inner space, and he could use it at any moment.

As Judith said, with the help of the Fractal, Kreyn could change his abilities. Usually, at his level, this meant changing only the Spark of his Epos, but since he had a Record, he could also change the Script.

The names for each thing were different, but basically, the Epos and Record were pages in a book, while the Spark and Script were lines, and the Fractal could only make changes to the lines, not the pages.

Tap.

Kreyn touched the Fractal as the symbol shattered into blue light from a multitude of lines resembling a stellar mist.

[What history do you want to change? You can only influence the branches, not the foundation.]

With a slight nod, Kreyn waved his hand and summoned runes from the manifest ring.

[Will of the Exhausted: The limits of your endurance have widened. Your aura will frighten or at least make every worm-creature wary. When faced with a desperate situation, you will have the opportunity to snatch victory and repeat your first Record.]

His choice fell on his Record, on the Script.

"As I understand it, I can only make adjustments. I cannot create a completely new Script, right?"

In response, the Fractal trembled.

[Correct. Even in this case, the changes must be within the realm of possibility.]

"I see…"

It seemed that the right decision would be to change the Spark of his Epos. It was the Spark that allowed him to use the powerful energy blast that helped him defeat the Remnant Guard, and that was clearly only one of the few battles on his path.

Although that would be true and he could increase the blast range, power, speed, or any other parameter, combat power was not Kreyn's priority.

"What's the point of having one powerful weapon if, in return, you give up the opportunity to reach a level where you can create something more impressive?"

A sharp gleam passed through his eyes.

"It's better to have opportunities than weapons, am I right?"

Then, he waved his hand as if making a wish. His lips moved as the Fractal became whole again, directing all its energy into the Script.

[You have used the Fractal to change the Script of the First Record.]

[Your requests can be fulfilled.]

[The Will of the Exhausted will be changed according to your wishes.]
