War, Blood, Greed and Nuclear Blast

Chapter 32: An Offer You Can't Refuse

How to use his Fractal was entirely up to Kreyn. However, he had several limitations. He couldn't completely change his Script or add something that wasn't even remotely there before.

If someone's Script allowed them to walk on water, it was unlikely that this Origin could gain control over fire with the Fractal.

Kreyn understood this intuitively, so as soon as he understood the rules of the game, he immediately applied the Fractal, but...

[Your request has been denied.]

Then again.

[Your request has been denied. The Fractal is not capable of making such significant changes to your Script.]

Errors did not scare Kreyn. They just helped him better understand his capabilities.

[Your Script cannot be changed in this way. Your Script has several parts. Try to focus on one.]

Yesterday, when Kreyn was at the Hard Plain, he had to make a difficult choice. He decided to abandon most of his ideas and bet everything on one:

[The Fractal is capable of making your desired changes.]

[Now, you know the language of the Arakta Worms, only this one species.]

"Great..." Kreyn muttered, disappointment evident in his voice. He had hoped for more. "I hope these worms are worth it."

At that moment, Kreyn did not yet know about the Elder, one part of his plan as a trump card revolved around the ordinary Arakta Worms. But when Daren told him that they had a leader, Kreyn's eyes lit up like two bright stars.

...

The Elder stared intently at Kreyn, his eyes slowly narrowing as he tried to understand if it was a coincidence, or...

"Young man, do you really understand my words?" The Elder said.

To Daren, it was nothing more than a rumble coming from the Elder's throat, only the change in depth allowed him to understand that it was more than just a simple roar.

"Of course I am." Kreyn grinned, stepping forward. "What's more, I can do something like this."

Click.

Kreyn snapped his fingers as a wave of runes moved away from him, covering the small area where Daren stood.

The Arakta Worms became alert, ready to attack. They thought it was preparation for battle, but the Elder understood everything right away.

"I see... He's part of the conversation too..." The Elder glanced at Daren, who only gulped in disbelief.

Then, he turned to Kreyn.

"What is your name, young man? Since you have come here, you know my status, but still, I will introduce myself as is proper. My name is Vaarh, I am the Elder of these caves, and I want you to know that your lives are in my power."

In response, Kreyn shrugged.

"My name is Kreyn, Kreyn Skard. I did not come here for crystals or to explore the caves, I came here to make a deal."

Vaarh leaned forward, looking at the man who was no taller than his eye. Soon, Vaarh noticed something—a giant tooth hanging from Kreyn's back.

"Make... a deal...? You smell of death, Kreyn, the blood of one of my kin. Why should I listen to you instead of killing you in revenge?"

Without fear, Kreyn removed the tooth from his back and placed it on the ground.

"It was a fair fight. I was forced to use all means available to survive and win. That worm made its decision and perished."

Daren's heart sank. He knew they had used the Arakta Worm simply as a tool to deal with Enor.

'Fair fight? We just blew him up with a bunch of dynamite!' Daren exclaimed inwardly, not believing that Vaarh would buy that.

But when he turned around, he saw a smirk on the great worm's face, a predatory look comparable to Kreyn's.

"Fair enough."

Vaarh grunted.

"You're alive, which means you won. Nothing else matters much. So... Kreyn, what do you want from me, and what are you willing to offer in return? You're trying to hide it, but I can see that death is following you... Your time is running out, and you desperately want to break the distance."

"The Wurhen Family." Kreyn began. "Soon they will attack my people and me. I don't have enough strength to deal with their strongest warriors, but that shouldn't be a problem for you, right?"

Silence.

There was a moment of silence. Even for the Arakta Worms, the Wurhen Family was not an easy opponent.

"This... You are asking too much. I cannot destroy their entire family on my own. I would have done so long ago. Their influence has grown greatly in recent times..."

"Is the problem their head?"

Vaarh nodded. "Ardur von Wurhen, he is the only one of the Wurhen Family who has reached the Second Manifest. He is equal to me in strength, but I cannot defeat him on his territory."

This was no revelation to Kreyn. He knew that Ardur was his main problem.

If the head of the family fell, it would spell disaster for the rest of them as well.

"I'm not asking you to fight for me, I need your help in general and also in the fight against Ardur. If I create conditions in which we have the advantage, then we can defeat even him, can't we?"

"Ghm..."

Vaarh grumbled, pondering Kreyn's proposal.

"Let's say I'm willing to take the risk and get rid of these arrogant parasites who are reaching into my domain... But before I listen to your plan, young man, what are you willing to offer me?"

It seemed that Kreyn had nothing. He had a hundred prisoners under his command and an alliance with the Boneveil Village, which gave him nothing more than boxes full of dynamite, food, and a bunch of old things. Obviously, for the Elder of the Arakta Worms, the Worm Crystals were of no value.

But for every monster, blood was precious, as one of the sources of their power was flesh and energy.

"Hey, Daren." Kreyn turned toward him. "The Wurhen Family controls Varthon Town, right?"

Daren nodded. "Yes, their mansion and all the family's forces are there, but why do you ask?"

Vaarh also wanted to know the answer to that question.

In fact, when Kreyn was looking at maps, he studied Varthon, specifically how many people lived there.

Step.

Kreyn stepped forward as he spread his arms wide with a sly grin and eyes full of bloodlust.

"How about exactly 1,200 lives for your help?"

Daren froze, and even the Arakta Worms were puzzled.

Vaarh, in turn, just smiled smugly. He saw the dark, bloody aura emanating from Kreyn.

"These conditions..." He smiled. "They are acceptable, Kreyn Skard."
