A traditional men in a inverted world

Chapter 24: Before the meeting of the Power Ran-Reincarnators

[Monday, MidtownHigh, Morning]

With the only sound inside the classroom being scribbles on paper or some muffled conversations, Jonathan spun the pen between his fingers distractedly while looking at his notebook, his mind going over what had happened on Saturday.

After leaving that room and exploring the base, which believe me, he saw a lot of cool and really futuristic things there, like for example a woman who was testing an energy shield against a ray-gun weapon similar to what he had seen Maya use.

A kind of invisibility suit and some other things straight out of a science fiction movie, but definitely the things that caught his attention the most were two.

A combat armor and some sort of nano machine.

The first one was self-explanatory, seeing that thing made him feel like a kid walking into a toy store for the first time, he almost screamed like one saying he wanted it.

Unfortunately, as expected, it was something expensive and very difficult to make, besides the fact that it was made only for a specific group to use.

And then came the second thing that almost made him scream "Nanomachines son!"

Although, apparently it was just a much inferior version of the real deal that had been created by Eva, it was still something very good, its effect being precisely the ability to increase human physical capabilities several times.

Depending on the dose, the increase was greater, but the side effects would also be greater.

It didn't take long for Jonathan to know that that was what that muscular woman had in her body.

And that also made him question whether Maya had them and how strong she was.

Anyway, as expected too, they were expensive and difficult to make, although strangely not as much as that power armor, and the reason for that being that the nanomachines were Eva's creation while the armor was Adam's.

After seeing those things, he ended up asking Maya if he would receive some kind of enhancement of his own, and to his surprise she confirmed it, but also saying it would be something more simple without giving many explanations.

While wondering what it could be, he finally said goodbye to her, with her taking him and Vanessa out of the base.

Not before giving them a type of communicator.

It was basically a screen like a small cellphone that projected a hologram, its functions besides allowing communication were to serve as a tracker and a bomb.

Yes, a bomb, for emergency situations, as Maya herself made clear.

And after that he finally went back home, with his Sunday going on as usual.

He also thought it would maybe take until next week for Maya to contact him again but she talked to him on Sunday.

In short, his meeting with his power-reincarnator companions would now be on Tuesday.

If he were to say how he felt about that it would be curious, he didn't feel nervous or anxious, if anything he felt a little excited.

After all, it was like those multiple reincarnator scenarios in webnovels with the difference that this world wasn't a novel...probably.

Breathing in and exhaling, he leaned forward resting his chin on his hand while looking ahead, his pen still spinning between his fingers distractedly.

After leaving there, he realized that there was one thing he didn't get an answer for.

And that was Rachel, or more precisely her relationship with his scientist parents.

While he was growing up, he kept going from family to family, always being sent back at some point.

And now he knew that the reason for that was that possibly all those families were agents placed to evaluate his situation, with him being returned so the agents wouldn't risk exposing him.

But that didn't happen with Rachel, one thing was her being a friend of his parents, something he already knew from the beginning since she herself had said it, but why didn't they stop her from adopting him if she would be running the same risk?

It didn't make sense to use her as bait or something like that, so the only explanation he could think of was that she already knew about the world's condition.

That Rachel was somehow involved with Project Restoration.

Anyway, all of that was just speculation on his part, he would have to wait to talk to Maya again to have his answer.

Yawning, he leaned back on the chair returning to focus on the notebook on his desk.

He was also curious to know how his routine related to school would turn out.

...

"Dodge Jonathan!"

Taken out of his thoughts by that shout, Jonathan barely managed to dodge a ball that flew past him.

Approaching him with a ball in his hand, Tyrone asked with a frown. "What happened to you!? Don't get distracted!"

Smiling weakly, Jonathan rubbed the back of his neck. "Right, my bad, I got distracted for a moment." He was once again thinking about what was going to happen tomorrow, but that wasn't even the main reason for his distraction.

He just wasn't really in the mood to play dodgeball, he preferred that the teacher take them to the football field but once again she brought them to the court.

And now against his will he was playing mostly due to Tyrone insisting since he was still good at it, and there was that too, Tyrone was particularly excited about the match unlike usual.

"But you seem a little too excited, don't you? What happened?" He asked casually while looking to the other side.

"Nothing happened, I just want to win, is there a problem with that?" Tyrone still frowned as he spoke, looking completely focused while throwing a ball.

Jonathan raised an eyebrow noticing that particularly dry tone, he didn't have to think long to see that he was irritated with something.

Chad then silently approached, stopping at his side. "I think I know the reason."

Turning his gaze away from Tyrone's back as he threw another ball furiously, Jonathan looked at Chad at his side. "And what is it?"

"I think he fought with Megan." Chad said in a whispering tone.

Jonathan turned his gaze forward again. "Fought with Megan? Are you sure about that?"

"Yes—"

A ball interrupted Chad making both him and Jonathan dodge before going back to talking.

"Yes, yesterday, he showed up at my house out of nowhere looking irritated with something, I tried asking but he didn't say anything, but considering how he kept grumbling calling a girl an idiot it wasn't hard to understand."

"Hm, honestly, if that's the case I'm surprised he didn't even call me."

Chad nodded. "I asked him if he wasn't going to call you, but he said it was better not to, he spent most of the time lying on my bed staring at the ceiling looking sulky, do you think it's something serious?"

Jonathan shook his head. "Hard to say, he's very dramatic, it could be something serious as much as not, but knowing him, he's going to talk about it eventually, just wait, he can't keep his mouth shut for too long if it's to complain."

Chad chuckled lightly. "That's true, although I'm a bit worried."

And right at that moment as if on cue, Tyrone threw his ball at a girl's face, but she dodged.

"Aaaarrggh! Stop dodging you bitch!" Tyrone exclaimed stomping on the floor looking irritated.

The girl stared at him looking dumbfounded, her hand on her chest while raising her eyebrows and tilting her head down, she definitely didn't expect to be cursed like that.

"Tyrone, no cursing at your classmates please." The teacher said calmly from her spot beside the court.

But ignoring her, he turned to the side and stretched his hand toward another girl. "Hey, give me your ball."

"Uh..." The girl didn't know how to react while just looking at him.

"Just give me the damn ball!" He then exclaimed frustrated again making the girl quickly hand him the ball.

He then threw it with all his strength, but missed again.

"Fuck!" He said stomping again.

"Tyrone." The teacher called sounding tired.

With a silence between Jonathan and Chad seeing all that, the first finally spoke. "And...he's fine."

Chad could only give a strange smile at that.

...

[Night, Davis Residence]

Inside his room in front of his computer, his head bobbed slightly while he listened to music with headphones and ate chocolate ice cream.

"Wake me up inside~ (I can't wake me up!) Wake me up inside~ (Save me!) Call my name and save me from the dark..."

While singing along, an AMV of the final valley battle between Naruko and Sasuki played on his screen.

When the female voice was about to start the rap part, his bedroom door opened.

Looking back, he saw Elizabeth standing at the door.

Taking off the headphones and setting the ice cream container on the table, he turned to her. "Hi, what is it?"

She didn't say anything for a moment, just looking at him in silence until she finally spoke. "What really happened on Friday when you went to the bathroom?"

'Fuuuuuuuuu...!!!' While screaming internally, externally Jonathan just looked at her seeming confused. "What? What do you mean?"

Exhaling weakly, Elizabeth closed the door and approached, stopping near him and crossing her arms. "Today, I heard some girls talking about Alexis saying that they had seen her wandering around all beaten up at school, I asked and they said they saw her shortly after Tyrone's argument, and that made me realize it was shortly after you came back."

Jonathan just looked at her calmly in silence. 'Fuuuuuuu...'

"Tell me honestly Jonathan, did she do something to you?" She asked looking at him intensely.

Meeting her gaze without saying anything for a moment, he eventually sighed while pinching the bridge of his nose.

'Fuck, with you looking at me like that it just leaves a worse taste in my mouth for lying.' He really didn't like lying to her, but this was a situation he preferred to deal with on his own. 'I have to talk to Maya about this soon, but damn it Alexis, you couldn't at least have left secretly.'

He didn't even see her at school today for reasons he wasn't really sure about, maybe she would be there tomorrow.

Sighing again, he lowered his hand as he met her gaze. "Something did happen but it's nothing you need to worry about."

Elizabeth frowned. "How is it not something to worry about? How do you expect me to feel knowing that lunatic did something to you? Do you want me to just stay quiet and do nothing?"

Jonathan watched how she seemed to get angry, which was understandable in his opinion, especially because it was a male perspective.

If it were another situation he would have teased her a little at this moment before promising to ask for her help or something like that, but he really wanted to resolve this on his own.

So, with the so-called Dimensional Acclimation going through his mind, he didn't say anything and just opened his arms.

She frowned even more. "What are you doing? I'm being serious!"

Jonathan nodded calmly. "I know, come here."

She didn't say anything, just looked at him with her eyebrows furrowed for a few seconds before finally sighing.

"You can't take anything seriously, can you?" She said in a complaining tone as she approached, leaning down and finally hugging him.

Without saying anything, Jonathan simply hugged her, one hand on her back and the other on her neck as he stroked her softly.

Elizabeth felt his hands strangely rough and comforting, she felt more and more relaxed as his hands gently stroked her skin.

Her eyes instinctively closed as she rested her face against his neck, feeling more relaxed, a strange feeling rising in her chest.

A feeling of safety and protection.

Jonathan smiled softly seeing that, it was practically confirmation of the Dimensional Acclimation effect.

They stayed like that, just enjoying each other's presence in silence.

But Jonathan wouldn't be Jonathan if he didn't try to take advantage of the situation.

His hand that was on her back slowly slid downward toward her soft chocolate mounds, but she was faster unfortunately.

Without warning, she immediately pulled away and ran out. "You really have to ruin the moment, don't you?" She threw one last irritated look at him before leaving through the door.

With the door closing, Jonathan shook his head smiling amused. "No point running! I know where you live!"

"No shit Sherlock? Go to sleep Jonathan!"

Laughing at her response, he turned back to the computer. "Not yet, I haven't finished my ice cream."

...

While this was happening at the Davis residence, in England, inside what seemed to be a country house, a young man was sitting alone at a table on the porch.

He looked at the starry sky above with sharp green eyes.

"This night is really beautiful, I wonder what my companions of cause are doing?"

He said while taking a sip from the cup in front of him, but then his gaze dropped as he smacked his lips. "It's a little sweet." He then waved his hand. "Edward, bring me a bo'ohw'o'wo'er please."

"Yes sir."

...

In Australia, it was a sunny morning.

In what seemed to be a beach house, a young man wearing only shorts and holding a surfboard stared at the sea with a smile.

After a while staring at the sea, he nodded to himself before running off, turning and waving behind him. "Take care of the house while I surf, Charlie!"

The target of his words, Charlie, was a kangaroo lazily chewing on a piece of leaf.

He lifted his hand apathetically as if he understood what the young man had said.

...

In Russia, the night air was cold and silent.

On a snowy mountain, in a house near a hill, a young man sat on a rocking bench on the porch staring at the horizon of endless white.

Remaining in complete silence, he just rocked until he suddenly stopped, then nodded to himself.

"Да, я выпью немного водки»."

("Yes, I'm going to drink some vodka.")

He stood up, but hadn't even taken a step when he heard a scream.

"Ты уже выпил! Не смей трогать эту бутылку!"

("You already drank earlier! Don't you dare touch that bottle!")

Rubbing his head awkwardly, the young man went inside the house.

"Но, мэм, мне тепло."

("But ma'am, I feel warm.")

"Даже не думай об этом!"

("Don't you dare!")

...

In Japan, a young man ran desperately through the streets wearing a school uniform.

Stopping for a moment, he bent over while choking on air, breathing deeply.

His uniform stuck to his skin thanks to the sweat covering him in large amounts.

"Yūsuke-kun~! Nande hashitteru no~!?"

("Yusuke-kun~! Why are you running~!?")

He froze upon hearing that distinctly feminine and sing-song voice coming from afar.

Looking over his shoulder, he saw a girl with short hair, extremely beautiful, running quickly toward him while smiling.

With his eyes widening in terror, the young man went back to running with all his strength.

"Aaaaaaah! Dōshite kon'na koto ga okotte shimatta no!?"

("Aaaaaaaah! Why did this have to happen to me!?")He screamed with a crying face. "Kuso!!!" ("Daaaaamn it!!!")

...

In Sweden, the night was also starry.

In front of a nightclub, a young girl looked up at the sky silently and contemplatively.

"Vad tittar du på?"

("What are you looking at?")

Hearing that question from the friend beside her, she smiled and shook her head."Det är ingenting." ("It's nothing.")

The friend nodded and soon the two, along with two more girls, found themselves in front of the entrance with security.

"Part!"("Party!")

She shouted, with the others following her as they went inside.

...

In Italy, inside a restaurant, a young girl savored a pizza with a fork and knife.

Placing a piece in her mouth, she looked to the side through the window toward the street covered by the glow of the sun as pedestrians walked by.

She looked silently, seeming contemplative for a moment until she turned to take a sip from her wine glass.

But she stopped upon seeing what seemed to be a couple of foreigners putting ketchup on a pizza.

Snorting, she muttered. "Hmph, maiali incolti." ("Hmph, uncultured pigs.")

She then picked up the glass, taking a sip, but still with a look of disapproval on her face.

...

In China, it was just another workday like any other for most people.

But for a young girl, her job as one of the youngest CEOs was anything but ordinary.

"...Shìqíng jiùshì zhèyàng fāshēng de. Niánqīng de lǎoshī, nǐ yǒu shé me jiànyì ma?"

("...And that's what happened, what do you suggest, young lady?")

A woman in a suit and glasses asked nervously while bowing to her.

With her hands in her pants pockets and also wearing a suit, the young girl looked through the glass at the streets below with a calm face.

"Nǐ hái néng zěnme bàn? Dǎ duàn tā de tuǐ."

("What else should you do? Break her legs.")

"S-Shì de, nǚshì." ("Y-yes ma'am.") The woman said nervously before leaving.

Sighing, the girl continued to contemplate the scenery below, her black eyes not revealing anything of her thoughts.

...

In India, it was a busy morning like any other.

Inside a house, a girl scribbled quickly on a large piece of paper placed on a table.

She was painting using her own fingers as brushes, which made her hand completely covered in colors.

Stopping for a moment, she moved her hair away from her forehead while breathing tiredly.

On the paper, a man and a woman wearing lab coats stood facing each other in strange poses, with the woman on higher ground while both had their fingers crossed.

Laughing for a moment, the girl tried to grab more paint but ended up spilling it on the floor.

Freezing for a moment, she then slowly turned and left the room yelling. "aantee, meree syaahee khatm ho gayee hai!" ("Aunt, the paint is gone!")

"kya tumane phir se syaahee gira dee?"

("Did the paint run out or did you spill it again?")

"...Hehe~"

"mujhe vah hehe mat do!" ("Don't you 'hehe' me!")
