Infinite Qi System: Cultivating Souls in the Apocalypse

Chapter 47: Farewell

About 30 minutes later...

Both Feng Liang and Feng Yue greeted the old man in complete respect since he was the very man their son had chosen to put his faith in.

Being his parents, they had neither the right nor the intention of questioning his choice. In fact, they were rather relieved to know he had truly chosen someone, for they believed their son would simply reject everyone.

"Greetings, sir, please take good care of our son from now on." They both said in unison, beaming.

The old man, who had been acting indifferent since the start, bowed in mutual respect, "Please do not worry. I will do the best of my abilities to take care of him as his master."

The sight of the indifferent master cupping his hands and bowing towards Feng Tian's parents truly surprised both him and his parents. Although it was a part of the long-passed tradition, Lucian was only further assured that his choice truly was the correct one. Not only was the old man powerful, but he was even humble to the powerless.

'But I still can't figure out his origins. If I were to merely group him based on his personality, I wouldn't be able to guess at all. Since, for me, to group him as a man of the righteous wing would be nothing but my stupidity. Since stars flicker even on the darkest nights. There was no telling, as the man could very well be someone from the demonic wing.' Lucian wondered, scratching the back of his head slightly as he stood beside his master.

Then, their gazes wandered towards Feng Tian. It was almost as if they were asking him to greet them for the final time. Getting closer, he bowed respectfully and calmly muttered. "Mother, Father, I..."

As he was speaking, his throat suddenly constricted. No matter how much he tried, words did not come out of his mouth. On the contrary, a sharp pain pierced through his heart. It neither agonized him immediately nor did it kill him. No, the pain simply sat in his heart, pulsating with every heartbeat—growing stronger at a steady pace.

'What... what's this?' Unable to understand this peculiar feeling, Lucian was naturally flustered. Even if he couldn't understand its essence, Lucian could tell that what he was feeling wasn't any physical pain, but mental.

Before he could think any further, a cool breeze swept across his face, grazing his hair to flow along with its force. Over his head, a pair of hands rested in complete silence. These hands, they felt weirdly close. At first, their warmth eased his pain and rejuvenated his body with a new energy. The next second, the same hands seemed like a vast ocean—cooling his mind in an instant.

Lucian raised his eyes in confusion, his vision blurry for some unknown reason. There they were—his parents. Both the mother who cared for him more than anyone and the father who shielded him from all malice in the world. At last, he was leaving their side.

'I see...' Finally recognizing the feeling, his vision recovered significantly as something warm trickled down his face from the crevice of his eyes.

In front, his parents looked at him affectionately, smiling like always.

'So this body truly is yours, huh, Feng Tian?' A thought flickered in his mind as his lips curled into a bittersweet smile.

"Take care and if things get tough, do not hesitate to return." Feng Liang said calmly.

"To us, our son's life matters more than some pride, got that?" Feng Yue playfully followed.

Hearing their kind response, Lucian was overwhelmed with emotions. Quivering, he silently nodded. Even though he was practically an adult in terms of intelligence, it was no less of a fact that this sort of thing—he had no experience in it. In a sense, one could call him a toddler who still sought the warmth of a "home."

Of course, he wouldn't have admitted that outright. But deep inside, even he knew that the past 5 years had at least shaken his mind enough to make him react so.

On the other hand, this reaction of his only deepened his parents' bond towards him. Truth be spoken, even if they were his parents, there was no way they could simply ignore their son acting in such ways. At times, even to them, he didn't seem like a child. The abnormal growth and the astonishing intelligence that challenged the ways of society in such ridiculously practical ways. But more like an adult who lived in the disguise of a kid.

However, now that they had seen this side of Feng Tian, their trust only deepened, for they felt the child within their son for the first time.

With actions speaking louder than words, the group simply stood at the door as the sky grew darker and every speck of sunlight disappeared.

Moments turned into minutes; the parents quietly savored the vision of their son for as long as they could. After all, who knows when they will meet next time? And most importantly, in what condition would they meet?

The old man simply stood at the side, giving the family enough privacy and time to see their goodbyes to fulfillment.

At last, as the light of the crescent-shaped moon began to shine over Xiouyue, both Feng Liang and Feng Yue walked towards the old man along with Feng Tian.

Their eyes had slightly swollen, and a hint of striking red could be seen in their sclera. The old man, who had been standing with his back resting against the wall, straightened up. With a final bow, they bid farewell.

"We leave our son in your care, sir." They called out.

The old man nodded and looked towards Feng Tian. "Let's go," he said, his voice calm and soothing. Before waiting for a reply, the old man simply began walking towards the road that led to the inner parts of Xiouyue.

"Y-Yes!" Feng Tian stammered, his eyes red and swollen, and his voice slightly wavering. Moving his legs, he quickly caught up with the old man. Walking away, for the last time, he turned his head around. From the corner of his eye, he saw his parents still wearing a warm smile.

'Even if temporary... I kinda like this...' Stretching his lips ear to ear, he waved goodbye and smiled playfully.
