After I Fully Prepared for the Apocalypse, the Ungrateful Cried with Regret

Chapter 361: Intentions

Chapter 361: Chapter 361: Intentions

The water tank was new, with a faucet attached at the bottom.

"This is..."

The five people in the room all found themselves staring at the water tank. To their surprise, it was already a quarter full.

"Could this be Lexy’s doing?"

Cordelia asked.

Nina Jacobs nodded. With so many of them, they would probably have to rely on Lexy for their water needs in the coming days.

So whenever Lexy could produce water, she saved it up in this large tank first.

Of course, they couldn’t tire Lexy out.

"I heard Keldorn is short on water right now. The fact that Lexy can create water..."

"Don’t worry, we know our limits. Miss Jacobs, you saved us, and Lexy did too. We wouldn’t tell a soul, not even if you beat us to death!"

Tobin and the others knew that if it weren’t for Nina Jacobs, the three of them wouldn’t have survived more than a few days.

But none of the five of them slept a wink that night.

"So many people must be waiting for us to bring back water..."

Rhonda Rowan sighed, gazing up at the pitch-black sky.

For some reason, Veridia Town was completely dark tonight.

"Yeah, but we didn’t find anything."

Cordelia added, her voice full of disappointment.

’If only we could find a cat that makes water too...’

Cordelia immediately dismissed the thought as soon as it appeared.

’I can’t believe I just had such a greedy thought.’

"Yeah, if we brought Lexy back to the base, I’m sure no one would easily discover its Water Element Superpower..."

Rhonda Rowan muttered.

"What are you talking about? Didn’t you hear Miss Jacobs? She must have her reasons for not wanting to take Lexy to the base. We can’t bring harm to them."

Tobin’s voice rang out in the darkness.

This came as a bit of a surprise to Nina Jacobs.

She had specifically activated her Five Senses Enhancement out of fear of a zombie attack, but she hadn’t expected to overhear this conversation.

’It seems that Rhonda Rowan has her eyes on Lexy.’

Nina Jacobs pulled up the system and, just as she’d expected, saw that Rhonda Rowan’s Friendship level had dropped.

Last night it was 30; now it was only 26.

"Rhonda Rowan, I know you’re a bleeding heart, but you need to learn some boundaries."

Silas Crowley’s voice came through, laced with a cold edge.

"I know. I just... I don’t know how I’m going to face everyone."

Returning meant facing a new round of despair. Rhonda Rowan fell silent.

"Face them however you have to. I, Silas Crowley, just can’t stand that guy Liang. As for everyone else, I’ll help where I can. As long as I can do it with a clear conscience, that’s enough."

Silas Crowley replied.

He just wanted to help people, not be a saint.

"Exactly. Miss Jacobs is a good person. Worst comes to worst, we can trade supplies or Crystal Cores with her for water. I think she’d agree to that,"

Tobin added.

"Right, right! I’ve still got a bunch of Crystal Cores saved up in my space. I just don’t know if Miss Jacobs and him need Crystal Cores..."

Cordelia’s thoughts drifted to the next day, and before she knew it, she had fallen asleep.

Nina Jacobs didn’t listen any longer.

In the apocalypse, people’s hearts were the most fickle. She’d have to keep a closer eye on Rhonda Rowan.

The group set out early the next morning.

Lexy lay by the window, still nervously watching the view outside.

"I need to make a stop in Aurelion first."

Nina Jacobs said to Reginald Sutton, who was driving.

"No problem. Aurelion is on the way, but the base has already cleared out all the supplies there."

Reginald Sutton assumed Nina Jacobs was going there to look for supplies along the way.

They had passed through Aurelion on their way here and had even spent a night there.

"Mm, I’m just going to meet someone."

Nina Jacobs also asked the group a few questions about Aurelion.

Like Aethelgard, Aurelion was a major transportation hub in Keldorn.

Before the apocalypse, it was a distribution center for goods in the surrounding area.

Because of this, Aurelion became a key location for supply runs right from the start of the disaster.

Reginald Sutton figured there probably wasn’t even a scrap left there.

"Speaking of which, we got separated from Corin and his group right after leaving Aurelion... I wonder how they’re doing now."

Cordelia said, a thought occurring to her.

"Corin is so strong. They’ll definitely be fine."

Rhonda Rowan cut her off.

"He even made it back safely from the Battle of Crestfall. Without us dragging them down, Corin and his group might have an even better chance of finding water."

After Rhonda Rowan spoke, Silas Crowley, who was sitting in the back, snorted coldly and said,

"Dragging them down? It’s not clear who was dragging who down."

"Sorry, I misspoke. Silas, please don’t take it the wrong way. I just hope everyone can survive."

Rhonda Rowan, seemingly realizing she had said too much, quickly apologized.

Tobin quickly coughed a few times to smooth things over. "Miss Jacobs, since you came from Veridia, you probably don’t know about Crestfall, do you?"

Nina Jacobs shook her head. "I haven’t heard of it."

’She knew of Crestfall, of course. It was famous for its ancient city and used to be a popular tourist destination.’

Tobin then began to explain.

Most of the zombies in Keldorn were locked up in Crestfall.

Crestfall is a city with unique terrain. It’s situated in a low-lying area, and its ancient city walls are well-preserved, making it an ideal place to contain zombies.

The Battle of Crestfall was, in reality, a battle to lure zombies.

At the time, the old base commander called on many Superpower Users to participate, and Corin volunteered to join.

It’s said that many people died in the Battle of Crestfall.

But the results were significant.

"That’s one of the reasons there are fewer zombies in Keldorn."

Tobin said.

"Is Crestfall far from the current Lornwood Base?"

Nina Jacobs asked.

Luring and redirecting zombies was a common tactic for many bases.

But it also posed a huge hidden danger.

"Not too far. About 60 kilometers."

Silas Crowley answered.

He found Nina Jacobs to be very mysterious. He didn’t know why she was going to Keldorn; all he knew was that she had saved his life.

And from the beginning until now, she had never used it to ask for anything from them.

So he continued, "If you’re worried about your safety outside the base, I can help you."

He thought Nina Jacobs was afraid of the zombies in Crestfall breaking out.

"Help me?"

Nina Jacobs’s train of thought was interrupted. The seats in the vehicle faced each other, separated by an aisle.

She looked at Silas Crowley, who was sitting across from her. His expression was serious; he didn’t look like he was joking.

’Silas Crowley is a Thunder Element Superpower User. Although I’m not sure how strong he is, what I need to do is still too difficult at the moment, and I’m desperately short on people.’

"Alright. Come work for me. You name your price."

Nina Jacobs agreed.

But Silas Crowley was taken aback for a moment before replying,

"There’s no need for payment. I, Silas Crowley, only do what I want to do, without calculating gains or losses."

’It’s rare to find someone who would say something like that in times like these.’

Nina Jacobs found herself growing more curious about Silas Crowley’s character.

"I... I’m also willing to help for free, if you need a Space Superpower User."

Cordelia said, glancing between the two of them.

"I do."

After Nina Jacobs spoke, Cordelia looked a little happy.

"Miss Jacobs, I, Tobin, am also willing to help. But I have a request. It’s okay if you say no."

Tobin said.

"Go ahead." Nina Jacobs said. ’I can already guess what it is.’

"It’s about Lexy’s water... Once we get near the base, could you sell us some first? We can trade Crystal Cores or supplies for it."

Tobin said, his voice lacking confidence.

"Yes. I accept Crystal Cores or Gold."

Nina Jacobs replied.

"Really? That’s great!"

Tobin was ecstatic.

Isabella Ramsey was still waiting for him at the base. At least now he could face her when he returned.
