Chapter 382: Chapter 382: One-Person Infrastructure
Felix Finch and the others also saw Nina Jacobs.
Zombies lunged at her, but she killed each one with a single blow.
She walked over to an area marked with a white line.
Earth Element Superpower surged from her hands, and a stone wall, about three meters high, erupted from the ground.
After confirming the wall’s height and thickness were within the required parameters, Nina Jacobs continued to channel her Earth Element Superpower.
With the nearby zombies now under control, everyone stared into the distance in shock.
Nina Jacobs was practically forming the stone wall as she walked.
She followed the white line on the ground. Wherever she passed, a wall erupted from the empty space.
Felix Finch’s eyes filled with awe.
This was basically a one-woman construction project.
"I’ve never seen anything like it in my life,"
a Water Element Superpower User said.
To encircle an area this large, it would take over an hour just to walk the perimeter.
And yet, she was starting the whole thing by herself.
"It seems I made the right choice."
Mirelle Keller sat in a car, with Reginald Sutton at the wheel.
Nina Jacobs had assigned a few people to accompany her. They were preparing to go to Pyralia to bring Thaddeus Wren and nearly 200 others back here.
After all, they were desperately short on people right now.
"Were you an architect before?"
Reginald Sutton asked as he drove.
Nina Jacobs had designed the defensive checkpoints around the base, but blueprints still needed to be drawn up, incorporating the dimensions, thickness, and orientation of the walls and terrain.
And it was Mirelle Keller who had pulled an all-nighter to create those blueprints.
"You could say that. I’m also eager to see what her designs will look like when they’re finished."
Mirelle Keller had once been involved in designing a sports stadium.
She didn’t know anything about defensive checkpoints, much less traps or tactics for fighting off zombie raids.
Nina Jacobs had come up with all those designs by herself.
From an architect’s perspective, the designs were unquestionably the work of a professional.
It seemed the surprises Nina Jacobs had in store for her went beyond just a powerful Superpower.
Nina Jacobs could feel her Superpower draining but wasn’t worried about running out of Superpower Energy at all.
She wasn’t creating the stone wall from thin air; she was transmuting the existing dirt and rocks on the ground.
This conserved far more Superpower Energy than materializing it from nothing.
She planned to build three lines of defense, and this was the first.
Gralem Prison covered a vast area, and by now, Nina Jacobs had already reached the far side.
A small, pink electric tricycle pulled up from behind.
Cordelia stopped beside Nina Jacobs and said,
"You must be exhausted walking like this. Hop in, I’ll give you a ride."
The Keldorn sun was intense. Though it was only eight in the morning, the scorching heat felt like it could melt anything.
Nina Jacobs wasn’t tired, but the tricycle had a fan and provided shade, making it a much more comfortable option.
"This is the little electric cart I used to take to work. Mr. Ainsworth installed a solar power system for me, so I never have to worry about charging it again."
Cordelia said happily.
She was very fond of her little cart.
Sitting in the cart didn’t hinder Nina Jacobs from using her Superpower.
"By the way, do you really not need to find some other Earth Element Superpower Users to help?
How many days will this take if you’re doing it all by yourself?"
Cordelia wasn’t questioning Nina Jacobs’s ability; it was just that the project seemed overwhelmingly large to her.
"Three days."
Nina Jacobs answered.
"Three..."
Cordelia looked at her in shock.
"It would have taken four days, but with you giving me a ride, it’ll be even faster."
Nina Jacobs said with a smile.
Cordelia knew that Nina Jacobs rarely joked.
Sure enough, before the morning was over, the first perimeter wall around Gralem Prison was complete.
Amid everyone’s gasps of amazement, Cordelia drove Nina Jacobs along the wall to begin a second pass.
During the second pass, Nina Jacobs shaped the other side of the wall into a smooth, convex surface that was impossible to climb.
A row of stone eaves extended from the top, with rows of sharp Stone Spikes underneath.
Nina Jacobs even lured a few zombies over to test it. The Stone Spikes dropped, striking the zombies at the base of the wall squarely on the head.
"A fatal blow. Impressive. But there aren’t many zombies around here,
I feel like there are way fewer than around Lornwood Base."
Cordelia voiced her thoughts.
’Was it a bit of a waste for Nina Jacobs to build such complex defenses? This place was so remote, after all.’
"There are no zombies now because there hasn’t been any human activity here for a long time. That won’t necessarily be the case in the future,"
"And don’t forget, Crestfall is also in Keldorn."
If the zombies in there ever pour out, the entirety of Keldorn will be overrun.
By then, it will be too late to build these defenses.
After hearing this, Cordelia’s eyes widened.
’The zombies from Crestfall escaping? She had never even considered it. She’d heard there were tens of millions of zombies in Crestfall alone.’
That day, Nina Jacobs finished work early.
Only, when she returned and took in the building’s "Pure Prison Style" architecture, she fell into deep thought.
’The outside needed renovating, but didn’t the inside as well? The interior was all reinforced concrete and steel bars. The rooms were ready-to-use and plentiful, but every door was made of iron bars, offering no privacy.’
"That’s not hard. We can just modify them with a Gold Element Superpower."
Upon hearing this, Corisande, right in front of Nina Jacobs, transformed the metal bar door into a solid sheet-metal door.
"It’s not very pretty, but at least you can’t see inside anymore,"
Corisande said.
"Mm, it’s pretty good,"
"Right, how are Tristan Lynch’s injuries?"
’Nina Jacobs had other tasks for Tristan Lynch. She was just too short-handed right now.’
"He was just about to look for you, but he thought you were tired, so he didn’t come to bother you."
Corisande answered.
"Um... Miss Jacobs,"
"If there’s any work that needs doing, I can do it in Tristan’s place."
Lachlan quickly interjected.
"You?"
Nina Jacobs looked at him.
Lachlan quickly received a new task—
to print promotional flyers for the new base.
Which, of course, also included distributing them afterward.
"This will be our base’s first impression, so it’s a very important task,"
Nina Jacobs said.
"I guarantee I’ll complete the mission!"
Lachlan was thrilled, but then a question occurred to him.
"Since we’re going to print and distribute flyers, shouldn’t our base have a name?"
’We can’t just call it Gralem Prison Base, can we?’
Nina Jacobs thought for a moment, then answered: "Tomorrow Base."
’She planned to reuse the name "Tomorrow Base," which had existed in her past life. Even without Heath Chandler, it was better for Tomorrow Base to exist.’
"Tomorrow Base? That’s a great name."
Felix Finch walked in, holding Freya Finch by the hand.
Behind him was Wayne Warner and Lexy on his shoulder.
"Got it. Tomorrow Base."
Upon seeing Felix Finch, Lachlan hastily grabbed Corisande and left.
After all, Felix’s group had beaten him up more than a few times before.
"How did it go today?"
Nina Jacobs knew Felix Finch was here to report on his progress.
"It went well. They’re adapting much faster than I expected,"
Felix Finch said.
"Under the guise of improving their combat Superpowers, I had each of them completely expend their Water Element Superpower."
"We managed to collect a lot of water that way."
Knowing the importance of water, Felix Finch had guided them to produce a great deal of it. The storage tanks on the roof alone were filled to the brim—all 50 of them.
"And Lexy is the most amazing! Lexy alone filled three of those huge tanks!"
Freya Finch added from the side, waving her arms.
Nina Jacobs smiled and continued to ask: "How many tanks of water do we have in total now?"
