Chapter 408: Chapter 408: Stop Flaunting Your Love
Then, Vera felt something was off. A transfer from a corporate account shouldn’t arrive so quickly. ’Could this guy just be using it as an excuse to see me?’
But as it turned out, anything was possible. When she went to check her account that afternoon with her ID, she discovered an extra thirty million in it!
She jumped in surprise and turned to look at Alistair Forrest standing behind her. He was grinning from ear to ear, wearing an expression that screamed, ’Aren’t you surprised, Honey? Isn’t it a wonderful surprise?’
Vera was at a loss for words. After thanking the staff member, she asked Alistair Forrest, "We agreed on twenty million last night. Why are there thirty million in my account now?"
Alistair Forrest said with a perfectly straight face, "The extra ten million is my betrothal gift to you."
Vera glared at him coldly. Nathaniel Nathan, having reached the end of his patience, grabbed Alistair and unceremoniously threw him into a nearby tree. Terrified, Alistair desperately clung to a branch to keep from falling.
But Alistair Forrest was nothing if not resilient. He quickly composed himself, crossed his legs while perched on the branch, and said with a grin, "I was just joking. Why so serious?"
He paused for a moment before continuing, "That ten million is a consultant fee from my grandfather. He genuinely wants to invite you to join our company as our Jade consultant. He also said that if this amount isn’t enough, we can offer more."
Vera was nearly floored by the Forrest Family’s casual extravagance. Ten million was an enormous sum of money these days, but in the mouths of the Forrests, it sounded as trivial as a head of cabbage by the roadside, something they could just toss out at will.
She took a deep breath and said, "But I never agreed to be your consultant."
"I know." Alistair Forrest smiled at her. "Then just consider it a good-faith payment from the Forrest Group."
Vera was left speechless. Alistair Forrest added, "Why don’t we find a place to sit down and have a proper chat?"
After saying this, he carefully climbed down from the tree.
Vera really wanted to refuse, but with their ten million now in her account, she knew she couldn’t just accept it.
And then, she thought of something else. Her goal in this life was to sell traditional Chinese remedies abroad, and Marinus, with its prime geographical location, was the ideal hub for import-export trade.
She had no connections in Marinus, which would make things difficult, but cooperating with the Forrest Group would make everything much easier.
So, if they could reach an agreement on this, it would save her a lot of headaches down the road. The only problem was Alistair Forrest’s incredibly infuriating mouth. He was just so annoying sometimes, and if that didn’t change, Nathaniel Nathan would absolutely never let her work with the Forrest Group.
With these thoughts in mind, she gave a slight nod. She then fell a few steps behind Alistair Forrest to soothe a very displeased Nathaniel Nathan. "He’s just a buffoon. You’re the bigger person, so don’t stoop to his level. He can’t even compare to one of your toes."
Alistair Forrest, who wasn’t far away and had heard every word: "..."
Nathaniel Nathan said coolly, "Don’t compare me to him. The very comparison is an insult to me."
Vera immediately took his arm and said, "As expected of the former provincial top scholar! Your phrasing is so brilliant, I’m in awe. That’s actually what I was trying to say, I just couldn’t think of the right words. You really do know me best!"
Alistair Forrest: "..."
’Have you two no humanity? Flaunting your love in front of someone who adores you... you’re going to get struck by lightning for this, you know!’
