Chapter 438: Chapter 438: I Really Didn’t Lie
The shop owner’s wife settled the matter before he could even speak. "If you’re really buying in bulk, we’ll just add a small margin on top of our costs. What do you think?"
Vera Xavier extended a hand to the shop owner’s wife. "Deal!"
The rest was simple. Vera picked out the herbs she wanted, and since the quantity was too large for her to carry, the owner arranged to ship it back to Crestfall via freight.
For the remaining items, they exchanged contact information, agreeing that the owner would wait for Vera’s go-ahead before shipping the rest.
Before leaving, Vera gave the owner and his wife a deposit of 100,000 yuan and a contract, tasking them with procuring a variety of authentic, high-quality herbs for her. Her directness and trust left a deep impression on the couple, and they readily signed the agreement.
While Vera was discussing the herb business with the owner, Nathaniel watched her from the side. He noticed that she seemed to light up the moment her hands touched the medicinal herbs. Yet when she heard the owner speak of the decline of traditional Chinese medicine, an expression of clear concern and helplessness crossed her face.
Although Nathaniel was a man of wide-ranging knowledge, the field of traditional Chinese medicine was simply too broad and profound. The sheer variety of medicinal herbs was immense, and he knew very little about them.
And yet, his wife seemed to know it all like the back of her hand. He was incredibly curious. ’Where on earth did she learn all this?’
This wife of his was just full of surprises. It was as if she were cloaked in countless veils. Just when he thought he’d peeled one back to see her true face, he’d discover another layer underneath. She was a constant source of wonder and surprise.
As for Jack Judd and Aaron Cheney, the less said, the better. Those two didn’t understand a thing about Chinese medicine and were just watching the spectacle from the sidelines.
Once Vera had finalized the deal, the two of them came over to lend a hand.
Although a large portion of the herbs Vera ordered was being shipped to Crestfall, she kept a selection of herbs beneficial for Zachary Preston’s health with her.
She had also found a few rare medicinal herbs here that she couldn’t find back in Crestfall, which was a pleasant surprise.
By the time they were done with everything, it was already dark. The four of them found a random hotel nearby to stay in for the night.
As usual, Aaron Cheney and Jack Judd took one room, while Vera and Nathaniel took the other.
After Vera and Nathaniel returned to their room, Vera happily took out the herbs she had bought, placed them on the table, and savored their fragrant aroma.
Nathaniel leaned against the table. "I think we should add a new rule to our relationship guidelines," he said. "If one of us lies, the liar has to give the other person a hundred kisses as punishment."
Vera nodded in agreement. "Mmm, that’s a good rule."
Seeing her completely unfazed, Nathaniel’s eyes narrowed. "In that case," he said, "you can give me my hundred kisses now."
Vera blinked at him, her eyes the picture of pure innocence. "Why?" she asked. "I didn’t lie."
"The medicinal herbs," Nathaniel prompted.
Vera asked, "What about the medicinal herbs?"
Nathaniel’s brow furrowed. Vera’s face lit up with mock realization. "Oh, that! I didn’t lie. I really did come to buy medicine for my dad! See? These are all for him."
"You know that’s not what I’m talking about," Nathaniel said coldly.
Vera spread her hands. "Are you talking about the fact that I know about herbs? But you never actually asked me if I did, and I certainly never said that I didn’t!"
’I knew he was going to ask,’ she thought. ’That’s why I came up with a response ahead of time. Trying to trick me? Intimidate me? Not a chance!’
