The CEO's Wife Is a Medical Master

Chapter 487: His Care (1)

Chapter 487: Chapter 487: His Care (1)

Vera Xavier immediately understood why Jensen had come. Her pharmaceutical factory hadn’t officially opened yet, but because Zachary Preston’s recovery after taking her medicine was so remarkable, word had spread among their acquaintances, and people were now coming to seek it out.

A brain hemorrhage was dangerous, but if the patient was saved by timely surgery and received proper follow-up care, they could live for many more years. However, most post-hemorrhage patients were either paralyzed and bedridden or suffered from hemiplegia. Even those in slightly better condition had to rely on a cane to walk slowly.

In Zachary Preston’s case, the delay in getting him to a hospital meant that while his life was saved, he suffered nerve damage, making his condition quite severe.

Everyone in their residential compound assumed he would be paralyzed for the rest of his life. No one expected him to be able to sit up, let alone walk slowly, so soon.

To them, it was nothing short of a miracle. Upon asking around, they learned that Vera Xavier had found a prescription from Yulara. As the story spread from one person to another, the rumor became that what Vera Xavier had brought back was the legendary Medicine.

In that era, the so-called Medicine was shrouded in legend. This lack of understanding only added to its mystique.

Vera Xavier quickly explained, "This medicine works best when combined with physical therapy. If your family has the means, the patient will need their family to help with rehabilitation exercises in addition to taking the medicine."

Jensen readily agreed and asked her what they needed to do.

The rehabilitation methods were straightforward—essentially, moving and walking as much as possible. But for a paralyzed patient, this kind of training was a battle of wills, a struggle against their own body.

This process required the constant help and support of family, which demanded a great deal of time and energy. Not every family was willing to devote so much effort to caring for a patient.

Vera Xavier explained the details, which Jensen diligently wrote down on a piece of paper. She then gave him a bottle of the medicine, explaining the dosage and how to take it. After jotting that down as well, Jensen asked her how much it cost.

Vera Xavier had already given a lot of thought to the medicine’s pricing. Her primary goal in starting the pharmaceutical factory wasn’t to make a profit, but to save lives.

However, if the medicine didn’t generate a basic profit, long-term operations would become a bottomless money pit.

Employee salaries, the factory site, research and development for new drugs—all of these required funds. She couldn’t rely on stone gambling to fill this financial gap forever.

So, she decided to price her medicines at cost plus a twenty-percent profit margin. This margin would cover the factory’s operating expenses, including research and development.

Since she used only the highest-quality raw ingredients available, the final price wasn’t exactly cheap. Still, it was affordable for the average person, as she kept her profit margins remarkably slim.

Jensen came from a well-off family, so the price Vera Xavier quoted didn’t seem expensive to him at all. He paid without hesitation.

Vera Xavier also mentioned the pharmaceutical factory, explaining that it was being funded and built by the person who had given her the prescription. She told him that once the factory was complete, he could purchase the medicine directly from there.

Opening a pharmaceutical factory involved a great deal of red tape. Unlike other products, medicine was subject to an extremely strict approval process. Vera Xavier wasn’t worried, though. Thanks to the validation from her past life, she had complete confidence in her medicine. It was all just a matter of time.

With Yorke Young handling these matters, she could rest easy.

Jack Judd had been trailing after Yorke Young lately, and he seemed to have matured a bit, though it wasn’t so easy for him to shake off his street-punk air.
