Chapter 729: Chapter 729: Just Hitting You (5)
Vera Xavier grew tired of listening to the platitudes from Sheldon Caldwell and the Dean of Students. She turned to Laura White and asked, "Is there anything else you can use to slander me?"
Laura White’s face was ashen. She had thought that even if she lost to Vera Xavier this time, as long as she could ruin Vera’s image in Nathaniel Nathan’s eyes, her future would be miserable.
She had been certain the incident in the cafeteria would be Vera Xavier’s undoing, but who could have guessed that the person Vera rescued was a girl!
’Vera Xavier has to be insane,’ she thought. When Susan Caldwell slandered her in the cafeteria last time, all Vera had to do was say that the student who looked so much like a boy was actually a girl. Susan would have been backed into a corner!
But then she recalled how Vera Xavier had thrashed Susan Caldwell that day, and the recent rumor that had been spreading about Vera kissing a boy in public. She realized it was almost certainly a trap Vera had laid for Susan!
If Vera Xavier had said the student was a girl back then, how could she have beaten Susan Caldwell up on the spot? And how could she have landed another vicious slap in Susan’s face this time?
She suddenly felt that teaming up with Susan Caldwell had been incredibly stupid, and Vera Xavier was far more calculating than she had ever imagined!
So she stood there in silence, not saying a word.
Vera Xavier folded her arms across her chest. "Can’t think of any more reasons or excuses?"
"I lost. I admit it." Laura White reached for the documents the dean had placed on the desk, preparing to leave with Secretary Archer.
But Vera Xavier looked at her and said, "Who said you could leave?"
Laura White froze for a moment. Vera Xavier then turned to the Dean of Students with a smile and said, "While my classmate Laura White’s actions were excessive, I believe the university’s purpose is to educate and guide its students. I ask that you consider this her first offense and give her another chance."
After she spoke, she glanced at Laura White’s stiff form and added slowly, "Have her apologize to me in front of all the students and faculty, and give her a demerit. Then, we can consider this matter over. What do you think, Dean?"
The Dean of Students was just about to agree, but Laura White lost it. "Vera Xavier, it’s impossible! I will never apologize to you!"
She had just witnessed Vera Xavier’s scheming and powerful connections; she knew she was no match for her. But she still had her pride.
Though breaking out in a cold sweat from the pain, Secretary Archer kept a thread of reason. He said quietly, "Miss, if you get expelled from Veridia University, I’m afraid there will be trouble down the line."
His words reminded Laura White. While she was one of the more outstanding members of her generation in the White Family, the family had more than just one child. Her second uncle had backed her this time only because he saw her potential.
If she were expelled from Veridia University, the family’s resources would no longer be allocated to her, and everything she currently possessed would likely disappear!
Therefore, she could not allow herself to be expelled from Veridia University!
But if she stayed at the university as Vera Xavier arranged, she would first have to bow her head to Vera in front of the entire school. And once she did, she would forever have to lower her head whenever she saw Vera!
Besides, knowing Vera Xavier’s personality, she was most likely keeping her at the university just to bully her! Her life from now on would be absolute misery!
