Chapter 735: Chapter 735: A Romantic Debt (5)
To Laura White, every word was a trap. She had been about to voice her anger, but Vera Xavier’s comment made her swallow it all back down. She pulled the covers up, burying even her head beneath them.
Shirley Ewing chimed in at the perfect moment. "Some people have sky-high ambitions but can’t be bothered to weigh their own worth. They spend all day fantasizing about being the baddest bitch on the planet, only to get a harsh slap in the face from reality. How pathetic, how laughable. If I were a certain someone, I’d either drop out or just go kill myself."
Vera Xavier’s lips curled into a slight smile. ’The real reason I didn’t have the dean expel Laura White was to torment her properly. After everything Laura did to plot against me, did she really think she could get off with a simple expulsion and just walk away? As if!’
Shirley Ewing continued, "I never really noticed her putting on airs before. The one time she finally tried to act all high and mighty, it was completely underwhelming. After all that, she just ended up being a huge joke!"
"Spending all her time scheming against our Vera, only to end up hurting herself. That girl must’ve been kicked in the head by a donkey. Confirmed!"
Vera Xavier had always known Shirley Ewing couldn’t stand Laura White. Looking at her now, it was clear Shirley had been holding back before. At this point, she was completely letting herself go.
However, it was getting late, and this couldn’t go on all night. Vera Xavier spoke gently, "Shirley, we’re magnanimous people. We don’t stoop to quarreling with petty individuals. Let’s sleep. We still have military training tomorrow."
Shirley Ewing mumbled an agreement and obediently fell silent.
Laura White, however, was so furious she barely slept a wink all night...
The next morning, the moment the outdoor loudspeakers blared, Laura White had no choice but to crawl out of bed with huge dark circles under her eyes. When she got to the door, Shirley Ewing deliberately slammed into her, almost knocking her to the ground.
Laura White shot Shirley Ewing a venomous glare, but Shirley just smiled and said, "Oh, my bad. I wasn’t watching where I was going. You okay?"
Ordinarily, Laura White would have put Shirley Ewing in her place. But this time, she glanced at Fiona Wright and Vera Xavier standing behind Shirley and could only swallow her pride, silently turning to leave.
Shirley Ewing made a face at Laura White’s retreating back. Vera Xavier said gently, "Petty tricks like that will only make her hold a grudge, but they’re not that useful. The best way is to make her despise you, yet be too afraid to truly hate you. To make her want to get rid of you, but be utterly powerless to do so."
Shirley Ewing paused, stunned. Fiona Wright gently tugged on her arm. "If we don’t head downstairs now, we’ll be late for formation. You want to get punished?"
Shirley Ewing snapped out of it and hurriedly followed Fiona Wright downstairs.
During military training that day, Laura White was so absent-minded that she was constantly making mistakes. She messed up several times in a row, and the drill instructor punished her just as many times.
When Laura White messed up for the fifth time, the drill instructor lost all patience and yelled, "Laura White, fall out!"
Biting her lip, Laura White stepped out of the formation. The drill instructor watched her with a deadpan expression and said, "You’re eliminated. Go back to the regular training platoon."
Laura White bit her lip lightly and left without a word. A moment later, Shirley Ewing was transferred over to take her place.
Shirley Ewing was thrilled. Her small, round face was absolutely glowing; she was clearly in a fantastic mood.
Vera Xavier merely smiled at the scene, knowing this was only the true beginning.
