The CEO's Wife Is a Medical Master

Chapter 747: Public Apology (1)

Chapter 747: Chapter 747: Public Apology (1)

Lane Yancey actually chuckled at what Vera Xavier said. He’d initially thought she was an incredibly straightforward and uncompromising girl, but it seemed that wasn’t entirely true. She had a few clever tricks up her sleeve.

Right after Vera Xavier left, the phone in the principal’s office rang.

Lane Yancey answered the phone. "Hello... Ah, Mr. Caldwell, hello... There might be a slight misunderstanding here. According to school regulations, we were originally going to expel Susan Caldwell. However, Vera Xavier just pleaded on her behalf, saying it was a first offense and that she didn’t want to press the matter..."

"That’s right, so all that’s required is for Susan Caldwell to make a public apology... I know that might be difficult to accept, but these are the school rules. Even I, as principal, can’t just change them on a whim. This is already the lightest possible punishment... Every family has its rules, and every school has its regulations. I have to be accountable to the entire student body and faculty, especially since this incident was so egregious."

"Thank you for your cooperation, Mr. Caldwell!"

After hanging up, Lane Yancey took a deep breath. He’d heard that Julian Caldwell doted on his daughter, Susan, and this incident certainly confirmed it.

Julian Caldwell had a reputation for having a clear sense of right and wrong, but at this moment, Lane Yancey felt that as a father, his moral compass wasn’t so finely tuned. Just now on the phone, Julian Caldwell’s words had been laced with thinly veiled accusations against Vera Xavier.

Lane Yancey was also sure that Julian Caldwell was only calling because Susan had run to him to complain. And, most likely, she had twisted the entire story, turning black into white.

Lane Yancey had originally thought Susan Caldwell was merely a bit scheming and overly jealous. Now, it seemed she was even more unpleasant than he’d anticipated.

He turned to see Sheldon Caldwell still standing there and said, "Thank you for your trouble today, Deputy General Manager Caldwell. This is how we’ll be handling the situation. If Mr. Caldwell remains dissatisfied with my decision, I must ask you to explain the particulars to him."

Sheldon Caldwell gave a slight nod. He had been standing beside Lane Yancey and had caught most of what Julian Caldwell said. He was finally beginning to understand why Winter Sullivan had gotten so angry yesterday and run back to the Sullivan family home.

’His father was just too good to Susan. He was so biased it was ridiculous.’

After Sheldon left the principal’s office, Lane Yancey ordered the students from every department to assemble on the main athletic field for a school-wide meeting.

The freshmen mostly knew why the meeting was being held, but the upperclassmen were in the dark. Still, they followed their instructors’ directions and gathered on the main athletic field.

The meeting’s theme was school conduct and discipline. It began with a stern, righteous speech from the dean of students, who then moved on to severely criticize the freshmen who had been fighting during their military training. He read out a list of the girls’ names, reprimanding them, which was then followed by the part where Laura White and Susan Caldwell were to publicly apologize to Vera Xavier.

’Laura White had originally thought that, given the circumstances, the worst Vera would do was make her apologize in front of the other freshmen. But when she heard they were holding a school-wide assembly on conduct and discipline, she knew she had been far too optimistic.’

’Vera Xavier had said she’d make her apologize in front of the entire school, and she had actually managed it—no compromises, no leniency!’

’She’d been feeling quite resentful about it, but then she learned that Susan Caldwell would be up there apologizing to Vera Xavier with her. Suddenly, things felt a lot more balanced.’
