My Life with Narration

Chapter 896 - 886: Arrangements

Chapter 896: Chapter 886: Arrangements

Suddenly, Su Qing’s followers online all felt a shared sense of indignation.

How should I put this, comedian Mr. Guo once said that when a comedian takes the stage, they shouldn’t wear watches or luxury items. Otherwise, the audience below will feel like they’re spending their money on those things.

But it’s different for actresses because the men in the audience will feel like it’s their money being spent.

Meanwhile, Su Qing was with Shen Yi, having reserved a table, inviting several directors and writers he planned to invest in over.

These were the ones he planned to invest in this time, and besides these, Wen Jingqi was also present.

"Su, Shen Yi, congratulations on your engagement! October 23rd, right? Don’t worry, no matter where you hold your wedding, I’ll definitely be there to join the fun," Wen Jingqi said, bursting into laughter as soon as he entered.

Regarding the couple’s news, that very night, the landlady and Tang Nan in Jiang City both got wind of it. Once the landlady knew, naturally, Wen Jingqi knew too, even though he hadn’t even had the chance to inform anyone yet, but news travels fast after all.

Upon hearing this, Su Qing couldn’t help but laugh and say, "You sure stay well-informed, brother. Shen Yi and I were thinking of heading back to Jiang City to invite you and Sister Wen for a meal soon!"

"No need, no need, we’re not strangers. My parents just called me specifically about this news last night," Wen Jingqi said, waving his hand with a smile.

For anyone he’s even remotely familiar with, Wen Jingqi ensures smooth interactions, let alone someone like Su Qing who can make him money. The key factor, of course, is his sister’s relationship with Shen Yi. Their relationship was quite good already.

"Oh, I’m troubling them. Uncle and aunt must come over for a drink when it’s time!" Su Qing said happily.

Truth be told, the age of the Wen family elder and his wife almost makes them grandparent-age for Su Qing, but being friends with Wen Nanqing, that naturally meant he called them uncle and auntie.

"Of course, my dad said if you don’t invite them to your wedding, he’ll be upset!"

As the three were chatting, soon the others arrived in the room—a total of eight people, including the directors, associate directors, writers, and others responsible for the four projects.

Everyone came in and greeted the three politely.

The night before, Su Qing had found another promising project within the script—a youth literary film.

Though this genre is quite common now, its market appeal is undeniable. The total investment required wasn’t much, only 40 million, with 10 million already secured, leaving him to cover the remaining 30 million.

For Su Qing, who had just received a share of the box office earnings, this was a small matter. The estimated box office for this project was said to be around a billion.

"I’d like to introduce you to my friend, Wen Jingqi, President Wen. Due to my financial constraints, he will be the investor for one of your projects," said Su Qing, as the host, naturally introducing him.

As expected, upon hearing that Wen Jingqi was an investor too, their enthusiasm noticeably increased, with handshakes and greetings all around.

"Alright everybody, let’s get straight to business. I’ve found your scripts promising and am interested in investing. You should have a good idea of the figures and other details. So, let’s get this done straightforwardly!"

Having said that, Su Qing glanced at Shen Yi, who nodded, and then signaled to the assistant at the door. Shortly, three staff members from Shen Yi’s company entered, led by his assistant, Hu Xiaoling.

"Directors, my name is Hu Xiaoling, and I am President Su’s assistant. I will be following up on this batch of projects with you. If there’s anything I’m not doing well, please bear with me. Here are your contracts; if you have any questions, feel free to reach out. We have professionals ready to help," Hu Xiaoling said with a smile.

As the decision-maker, Su Qing couldn’t do everything himself; he needed someone to act on his behalf, and Hu Xiaoling was quite suitable for this role.

Given her excellent performance in recent matters, Su Qing decided to give her this opportunity to oversee, although she would still need support which would elevate her role, effectively promoting her.

Challenges are natural hurdles; if she performs well, her career path could be quite promising.

Listening to this, the directors, deputy directors, and writers naturally couldn’t consider Hu Xiaoling as just an ordinary assistant.

After all, saying she would oversee these projects was essentially saying she was their primary point of contact, meaning she would communicate with Su Qing if any issues arose.

Thinking further, this meant she was effectively the financial overseer sent by Su Qing; although without real power, every expenditure by the crew would ultimately pass through her scrutiny, determining its reasonableness.

Soon, each director had two contracts before them, and the room was filled only with the sound of pages flipping.

Fortunately, there weren’t any hurdles from either side, and Su Qing specifically pointed out the additional clauses he added, explaining their purposes.

The signing process went smoothly, securing all four projects.

Among them, Wen Jingqi was interested in a cop and robbers action movie with a substantial 150 million total investment, where 100 million had already been invested, meaning he only needed to put up 50 million more.

Ultimately, Wen Jingqi and the landlady each put up half. Naturally, when signing the contract, Wen Jingqi was the only one present.

The rest was a private affair between the siblings, with no need for outsider involvement.

Su Qing’s remarks that day were not empty words. Regarding involving the landlady, Wen Jingqi had no objections. After discussing it with his sister, the landlady agreed, entrusting her brother with full responsibility.

As for him, he was left with three projects to invest in, with investment amounts of 90 million, 30 million, and 40 million respectively, totaling 160 million.

This was, until now, his largest single investment, considering his collaboration with Wen Jingqi in real estate previously involved only 150 million.

Luckily, he had just received his box office cut, amounting to 400 million. After subtracting the principal of 30 million, it was effectively a massive profit.

Adding the proceeds from his investment in "Wandering Earth," his current liquid assets were nearing 500 million, and if including all external investments yet to collect, he was heading towards a billion fiercely.

Thinking of this, he couldn’t help but feel a sense of achievement.

"Xiaohu, you will need to oversee the follow-up matters. Since neither President Su nor I are usually in the capital, please feel free to communicate if there are any issues. For staffing, ask President Tang for experienced people to assist you, and their salaries will increase by one grade," Shen Yi said as they sat in the backseat on the way back post-dinner.

"Understood, President Shen. Thank you both for your trust; I will do my best!" Hu Xiaoling replied excitedly while driving, her tone filled with enthusiasm.

Originally part of Tang Nan’s studio, she naturally learned the nuances of the entertainment circle, and this was an opportunity for her. Performing well here would solidify her role as an essential component for Su Qing—if she went back to Tang Nan’s studio, she could certainly reach the leadership ranks.
