Chapter 603: Chapter 294: Entering a More Dangerous Area
"That’s the problem right there!"
Bai Lin said softly, "Your firing angle has an imbalance because your stance is improper.
A small issue like that will decrease your accuracy. I can compensate for some of it by adjusting the equipment, but you need to improve on your own!"
"Hey, don’t worry, boss! I’ll train hard from now on!"
Sun Yang nodded with a serious expression. "Once you get it tuned up for me, I’ll definitely put it to good use!"
Bai Lin said no more and focused on disassembling the Pulse Gun’s Energy Core.
Sun Yang watched from the side for a moment, but he couldn’t understand any of it, so he just went back to the sofa and flopped down.
"Han Ruoxi, Sister Qiuyue, you think our next mission will be even crazier?"
Sun Yang turned his head to look at the two of them, who were organizing their gear, and couldn’t help but ask.
"How much crazier could it get?"
Han Ruoxi didn’t even look up, her fingers flying across her Electric Gloves. "No matter how strong the Insect Race gets, we still have a job to do.
Stop worrying about how hard the mission is and start thinking about how not to drag us down again!"
"Ouch, that one hurts!"
Sun Yang clutched his head, pretending to be in pain. "Miss Han, you’re making me question my life choices!"
"Then go ahead and question them."
Han Ruoxi replied coldly.
Shen Qiuyue, sitting to the side, looked down to inspect her Dueling Sword and said calmly, "Sun Yang, the missions won’t get any easier, and complaining about it is useless.
Instead of wasting time, you should focus on improving yourself!"
"Sigh, you guys are making me feel bad!"
Sun Yang pouted. "Fine, I’ll put in extra training later. I’ll try not to get yelled at next time!"
"Let’s hope you follow through!"
Li Chang’an’s voice came from the doorway. He walked in, holding a mission report. "We have a new situation!"
Everyone immediately sat up straight, their gazes snapping to Li Chang’an.
"Command just sent word. We’ve found new signs of Insect Race activity deep in the Vortex Zone.
This time, it’s not just mutated ones. It might even include an Insect Race command unit!"
Li Chang’an put down the report, his tone grave. "Tomorrow, we’re heading into a more dangerous area!"
"A command unit?"
Han Ruoxi frowned. "You mean their ’brain’?"
"Exactly!"
Li Chang’an nodded. "If we can capture or destroy their command unit, our understanding of the Insect Race will advance significantly!"
"That just makes it more dangerous for us!"
Shen Qiuyue said calmly, "The guards around a command unit are bound to be denser. We could be facing a much larger swarm!"
"So... are we still going?"
Sun Yang asked in a low voice, "I’m not trying to be a coward, but don’t you think we’re a little short-handed for this?"
"We go. We have to."
Li Chang’an’s tone left no room for argument. "It’s an order. We don’t have a choice!"
"Alright, whatever you say, Captain."
Sun Yang sighed. "It’s my own life on the line, anyway. I’ll follow your lead."
"Then everyone, get some rest."
Li Chang’an waved his hand. "We assemble at 0600 tomorrow. Anyone who’s late gets extra training!"
The next morning, the Insect Hunter Squad assembled on time outside the base.
Wei Zhuang was standing by the combat vehicle as usual, a mission briefing in his hand.
"Today’s mission is more dangerous. You all need to be clear on your duties!"
Wei Zhuang’s voice was deep and powerful. "Don’t expect any support. You’re on your own.
If you fail the mission, you won’t even get the chance to retreat!"
"Don’t worry, Instructor!"
Li Chang’an nodded. "We will complete the mission!"
"Then move out!"
Wei Zhuang opened the combat vehicle’s hatch and gestured for the squad to get in.
The vehicle drove deep into the Vortex Zone. A thick, rank stench filled the air, and the surrounding light grew increasingly dim.
The terminal in Bai Lin’s hands began to emit a faint alarm.
"Captain, strong Insect Race signals 500 meters ahead!"
Bai Lin reported in a low voice, "High numbers, high intensity!"
"Prepare for battle!"
Li Chang’an drew his Saw Chain Sword. "Advance in yesterday’s formation. Watch your spacing!"
The vehicle stopped, and the Insect Hunter Squad disembarked quickly.
Just as they stepped into the mission area, the ground began to shake violently.
"To the left! Something’s coming out!"
Han Ruoxi shouted, simultaneously deploying an Electric Grid.
The ground split open, and several huge Mutated Insect Race creatures burst out from the earth.
Their carapaces had a metallic sheen, and their movements were far swifter than the insects they had encountered before.
"All units, open fire!"
Li Chang’an yelled, charging toward the swarm first.
Sun Yang raised his Pulse Gun and fired a series of blue beams that accurately struck one of the insect’s heads, but the creature only staggered for a moment before lunging at them manically.
"This thing’s hide is way too thick!"
Sun Yang gritted his teeth and kept firing. "Captain, how are we supposed to fight this?"
"Aim for the joints!"
Bai Lin reminded them calmly from the rear, "Their weak points are the joint Connections!"
"Understood!"
Sun Yang adjusted his angle and fired continuously, finally piercing through one of the insect’s forelegs.
Meanwhile, Han Ruoxi released a powerful electric current, successfully restricting the movement of two insects.
Li Chang’an and Shen Qiuyue seized the opportunity to close in, striking at the insects’ vitals with a Saw Chain Sword and a Dueling Sword.
The battle was exceptionally fierce, and everyone’s nerves were stretched taut.
"Sample collection still needs more time!"
Bai Lin called out from the rear as he operated the terminal. "Cover me!"
"Sun Yang, protect Bai Lin!"
Li Chang’an shouted while forcefully cleaving open an insect’s carapace.
"Roger that!"
Sun Yang immediately spun around, stood in front of Bai Lin, and laid down suppressing fire on the swarm with his Pulse Gun.
The battle raged for a full half-hour before the Insect Hunter Squad finally managed to repel the swarm and complete the sample collection.
"Retreat!"
Li Chang’an ordered, and the team quickly withdrew to the combat vehicle.
Back in the vehicle, everyone collapsed into their seats, exhausted.
"That was a real close call!"
