Chapter 640 - 312: Don’t Go Back on Your Word

Chapter 640: Chapter 312: Don’t Go Back on Your Word

"Of course the Captain is amazing, but a High-Tier Insect... Do you really think it’s just a scaled-up version of a regular member of the Insect Race? You should go read the files and educate yourself!"

"Alright, alright, my bad for shooting my mouth off!" Sun Yang held up his hands in a gesture of surrender.

"Let’s stop talking about the Insect Race. How about something more lighthearted!"

"Like what?" Han Ruoxi raised an eyebrow.

"Like that new batch of recruits at the base!" Sun Yang leaned back in his chair, a sly grin on his face.

"I heard there are several Superpower Users, and they’re all pretty strong.

I wonder if they’ll be training with us in the future!"

"What’s it to you?" Shen Qiuyue asked coldly.

"No matter how strong they are, it has nothing to do with you!"

"You can’t say that!" Sun Yang chuckled.

"Having a few more experts around is always a good thing.

Besides, what if one of them takes a liking to me?"

"In your dreams!" Han Ruoxi picked up her chopsticks and tapped his plate.

"Just eat your food. Stop letting your head be filled with all this nonsense day in and day out!"

"Exactly!" Li Chang’an chimed in casually.

"Instead of wasting time worrying about others, you should be more worried about your own marksmanship!"

After dinner, the sky was completely dark by the time they left the mess hall.

"Go back and get some rest early tonight!" Li Chang’an said, standing by the road and looking at his squad members.

"We assemble at the usual time tomorrow.

Don’t be late!"

"Captain, can’t you come up with something new?" Sun Yang put his hands behind his head, looking exasperated.

"Every day it’s early mornings and training. Can’t we add something else to our lives?"

"If you want to ’add something else,’ we can talk about it after your performance satisfies me!" Li Chang’an tossed this remark over his shoulder and turned toward the dorms.

The squad members glanced at each other. No one said another word, and they all followed him.

「The next morning.」

The entire Insect Hunter Squad was already standing in formation on the training grounds.

"Today’s theme is team synergy and coordination!" Li Chang’an stood before them with his arms crossed.

"You should all know that this isn’t an era where one person can complete missions alone.

Whether it’s the Insect Race or any other enemy, they won’t go easy on you just because you’re a master of one-on-one combat!"

"Captain, we all get that," Sun Yang said with a yawn and a stretch.

"But we’ve been a squad for so long. Do we really need special practice for coordination?"

"What the hell do you know?!" Li Chang’an shot him an irritated glare.

"I still haven’t settled the score with you for your performance in the last mock battle.

You charged ahead by yourself. How was the rear guard supposed to coordinate with you?"

"Er, I was just trying to score the first point..." Sun Yang scratched his head, laughing awkwardly.

"I’ll be careful next time!"

"There is no next time. We’re doing it today, right now!" Li Chang’an couldn’t be bothered to waste his breath on him and pointed to a pile of equipment in the center of the field.

"Today’s mission is a simulated attack-and-defend drill. The focus is on coordination and cover.

If I see anyone acting on their own again, training will be doubled!"

"Captain, can we please do a different drill?" Han Ruoxi asked with a pained expression, her arms crossed.

"You always find some new way to torture us with this attack-and-defend drill. I get a headache just hearing its name now!"

"Then you need to practice it even more!" Li Chang’an said coolly.

"You get a headache because your coordination is poor.

Practice properly until it doesn’t give you a headache anymore!"

"Captain, your logic is truly flawless," Sun Yang muttered, pouting.

"Enough talk. Start preparing!" Li Chang’an ignored them and walked straight to the control console to adjust the field parameters.

A moment later, the simulation field activated, and the squad members took their positions according to their teams.

"The rules of the mission are simple!" Li Chang’an’s voice came through the comms.

"You’ll split into two teams. One team will be responsible for assaulting the target point, the other for defending it.

Use your skills and weapons to complete the mission. Remember the key—coordination!"

"Captain, aren’t you going to join?" Sun Yang asked, holding his Pulse Gun and looking toward the distant control console.

"I’ll be observing!" Li Chang’an pressed a button, and the field lit up with Red and blue lights.

"We’ll talk after you all get it right!"

"Fine, fine!" Sun Yang sighed and waved his hand.

"Han Ruoxi, Bai Lin, you’re with me.

Shen Qiuyue, you’re on the other team. Let’s see just how solid milady’s defense is today!"

Shen Qiuyue shot him a cold glance but said nothing. She simply hefted her Dueling Sword and walked toward the defensive point.

Once the attack-and-defend drill began, the entire field immediately fell into a tense rhythm.

"Sun Yang, stop charging recklessly! That last shot of yours nearly deafened me!" Han Ruoxi shouted at him from behind cover.

"Hey, I’m clearing a path for you!" Sun Yang yelled back as he dodged a simulation round.

"Hurry up and use your electricity to clear the way ahead!"

"You think casting lightning doesn’t take time?" Han Ruoxi rolled her eyes. She gathered power in her hands, and in an instant, an arc of electricity struck an obstacle ahead.

"It’s clear! Go, now!"

"Roger that!" Sun Yang yelled, charging out with his Pulse Gun at the ready.

"Bai Lin, cover him!" Han Ruoxi said, turning to Bai Lin beside her.

"If he gets hit, the Captain will definitely punish the whole squad!"

"I know!" Bai Lin knelt behind cover, quickly adjusting his light weapon and firing at the distant defensive point.

"Don’t make me cover him alone! His movements are too erratic!"

On the other side, Shen Qiuyue stood firmly in the center of the defensive point, the sword in her hand glinting with a cold light.

’Sun Yang’s movements are always so flashy,’ Shen Qiuyue muttered to herself, then calmly raised her sword to block his sudden attack.

"Milady, your defense is just unreasonable!" Sun Yang yelled as he retreated.

"I got right in your face, and you still didn’t let me land a single shot!"

"Your movements are too predictable," Shen Qiuyue countered with a slash of her own, forcing Sun Yang back again and again.

"If I were a member of the Insect Race, you’d be dead by now!"

"Hey, don’t be so serious! We’re just training..." Sun Yang shouted while dodging.

"Captain, can you remind her not to be so ruthless?"

"You have a mouth, don’t you? Tell her yourself," Li Chang’an’s voice came through the comms.

"Keep fighting. No more nonsense!"

The drill lasted for nearly half an hour. The field was thick with dust, and spent simulation casings littered the ground.

"Time’s up!" Li Chang’an pressed the pause button, and the simulation slowly faded out.

"Debrief. How was today’s performance?"

"Captain, I think..." Sun Yang began to say.

"I don’t care what you think!" Li Chang’an cut him off.

"Who wants to summarize first?"

"I’ll go," Han Ruoxi stepped forward, tidying her hair slightly.

"Our coordination just now really wasn’t good enough. Sun Yang, in particular, charged way too fast. I couldn’t support him in time!"

"Exactly," Li Chang’an nodded.

"Sun Yang, did you hear that?"

"I heard, I heard!" Sun Yang waved his hands dismissively.

"I’ll be careful next time. No more rushing in!"

"Shen Qiuyue, what about your side?" Li Chang’an looked at her.

"The defense was fine, but the attacking team’s rhythm was too chaotic. If this were a real battle, they never would have broken through," Shen Qiuyue stated coolly.

"Very good!" Li Chang’an clapped his hands.

"We’ll continue this tomorrow!"

"Still more practice?!" everyone shouted in unison.

"You’re all still far from ready!" With that, Li Chang’an turned and left.

After training ended, they all dragged their exhausted bodies back to the break room.

"Is the Captain targeting us on purpose?" Han Ruoxi grumbled.

"I feel like he finds a new reason to torture us every day!"

"If he hears you say that, he’ll just add more training!" Sun Yang said with a wry smile as he sat down.

"But honestly, the Captain’s style... you really have a love-hate relationship with it!"

"Less talk, more resting," Shen Qiuyue said, closing her eyes and leaning back in her chair.

"We have more training tomorrow!"

「In the break room.」

Sun Yang was half-lying on the sofa, sprawled out like a puddle of mud.

"We should seriously nominate the Captain for the title of ’Iron-Fisted Demon’!" Sun Yang shook his head, staring up at the ceiling.

"If he wasn’t so ruthless, I think I could live another ten years!"
