Chapter 673 - 329: Clearing the Bugs Ahead

Chapter 673: Chapter 329: Clearing the Bugs Ahead

Li Chang’an asked quickly, his pace never faltering.

"Three hundred meters straight ahead, then turn left!"

Bai Lin continued, manipulating his terminal to scan the mine’s terrain.

"But there are some remnants of the Insect Race in that tunnel. They might be individuals that just broke free from the command entity’s control.

There aren’t many, but they’re acting erratically and are extremely aggressive!"

"Understood!"

Li Chang’an nodded, his voice decisive.

"Shen Qiuyue, cover our six! Ruo Xi, clear out the insects ahead! Sun Yang, lay down suppressive fire and don’t let them block our retreat!"

"Roger!"

The team responded in unison and moved out according to Li Chang’an’s orders.

Han Ruoxi was the first to reach the tunnel entrance. She immediately spotted several insects glowing with a dim red light, guarding the exit.

The insects weren’t large, but they looked exceptionally vicious. Their sharp claws and spikes made them seem even more dangerous.

"I’ll take care of them!"

Han Ruoxi shouted as she raised a hand, unleashing a blazing white arc of electricity that struck one of the insects squarely in the head.

CRACKLE—

The electric arc instantly incinerated the insect, but the remaining few seemed to have been provoked. They let out sharp screeches and lunged frantically at Han Ruoxi.

"Ruo Xi, watch out!"

Sun Yang immediately raised his Pulse Gun and sprayed a volley at the insects. Energy Bullets sliced through the air, knocking the creatures off balance.

"Got ’em!"

Han Ruoxi let out a breath of relief and turned to look at her teammates behind her.

"Captain, the exit is clear! We can go!"

"Don’t let your guard down!"

Li Chang’an said coldly. He glanced back at the pursuing swarm behind them and added in a grim voice, "There are more bugs coming from behind. We need to leave, now!"

Shen Qiuyue appeared at the rear of the formation. She skewered an insect’s head as it tried to pounce, then said coolly,

"Li Chang’an, more and more insects are coming from behind! The mine is about to give!"

"Got it!"

Li Chang’an glanced back at her, his tone calm.

"You pull back. I’ll cover our retreat!"

"I’m fine, just hurry!"

With that, Shen Qiuyue turned and ran for the tunnel entrance, her sword held at the ready.

The entire mine was on the verge of collapse. Fissures spiderwebbed across the ground, spewing hot, acrid gas.

Amid the tremors and roars, the Insect Hunter Squad and the Thunder Eagle Squad retreated quickly, everyone sprinting with all their might toward the exit Bai Lin had pinpointed.

"Almost there! I can see the light from the exit!"

Sun Yang ran at the front, shouting while panting heavily.

"Just a few more steps and we’ll be out!"

"Don’t celebrate too early!"

Du Feng’s voice came from the rear, accompanied by a sneer.

"We don’t know what the situation is outside! Don’t think you’re safe just because you’re out of the mine!"

Sun Yang curled his lip and muttered under his breath.

’Why is that guy always so damn annoying...’

"Shut up and run!"

Han Ruoxi yelled from behind them, once again unleashing an arc of electricity to knock back an insect that had darted out from the side.

At last, the Insect Hunter Squad and the Thunder Eagle Squad burst out of the mine. They all stood panting near the exit, the tension still etched on their faces.

"Whew... We finally made it out!"

Sun Yang dropped to the ground, panting heavily.

"That was a close one! Captain, your plans are a little too exciting!"

"Shut up!"

Li Chang’an glanced at him and said flatly.

"First, check on the wounded and make sure everyone is accounted for!"

Han Ruoxi patted the dust off her clothes and rolled her eyes.

"Sun Yang, don’t start whining the second we’re out.

You were running faster than anyone just now. For a second there, I almost thought you were brave!"

"That’s because I didn’t want to die in the mine!"

Sun Yang hugged his Pulse Gun, a wronged look on his face.

"I barely made it out of there with my life!"

"Enough nonsense!"

Shen Qiuyue walked over and said coldly.

"That swarm just now wasn’t all of them. There might still be remnants active nearby. Don’t lower your guard!"

"Sister Shen, you’re so heartless..." Sun Yang said with a helpless expression, but he stood up and began to inspect his weapon anyway.

Just then, Bai Lin came over from behind them, holding his terminal. His expression was grave.

"Captain, there’s a problem!"

Bai Lin said in a low voice.

"What problem?"

Li Chang’an frowned and asked immediately.

"The heat signature from the mine is gone, but... during my last scan, I detected new energy fluctuations!"

Bai Lin raised his head, looking at Li Chang’an with a serious gaze.

"Two kilometers east of the mine, there’s a stronger energy source. Its fluctuation frequency is different from the command entity we just dealt with!"

"A stronger energy source?"

Li Chang’an’s face fell.

"Are you saying... there’s another, higher-level member of the Insect Race out there?"

"Very likely!"

Bai Lin nodded.

"The specifics are still unclear, but based on the data, the strength of this Energy source is at least double that of the command entity!"

Han Ruoxi’s face paled when she heard this.

"You’ve got to be kidding me. We just took out one command entity, and now there’s an even stronger one? Is the Insect Race opening franchises now?"

’This is trouble...’ Shen Qiuyue murmured, her gaze growing more guarded.

"Du Feng!"

Li Chang’an turned to look at the captain of the Thunder Eagle Squad.

"Is your squad still in fighting condition?"

Du Feng sneered, slapping the flat of his longsword.

"Of course we are. The Thunder Eagle Squad isn’t afraid of dying like some people!"

"Good!"

Li Chang’an nodded and then gave his orders to the entire group.
