Chapter 701: Chapter 343: A Little Creepy
"The bugs have technology? You’ve got to be kidding me. Aren’t they just a bunch of creatures that act on instinct?"
"That’s because your understanding of the Insect Race is stuck in the past!"
Bai Lin looked up and glanced at her.
"If you look closely, you’ll see their combat is no longer about simple charges. They’re conducting organized, purposeful attacks.
Especially the Commander-Level individuals—they’ve already developed rudimentary tactical thinking!"
"That sounds a little creepy..."
Sun Yang scratched his head and slumped down in his chair.
"So, you’re saying the Insect Race we face from now on will just get smarter?"
"Smarter doesn’t mean invincible!"
Li Chang’an spoke up, his voice calm yet filled with power.
"The evolution of the Insect Race is inevitable, but we’re progressing too.
The missions ahead will be tougher, but I’m confident the Insect Hunter Squad can handle them!"
"Well, that’s a rousing speech, Captain!"
Han Ruoxi rolled her eyes.
"But the question is, how do you expect us to handle it? More high-intensity training?"
"Exactly!"
Li Chang’an nodded curtly.
"Starting tomorrow, we’re increasing the training load, especially for teamwork and reaction speed.
On this last mission, Shen Qiuyue’s performance was the most consistent, but the rest of you had problems.
Sun Yang, your accuracy is insufficient. Han Ruoxi, your output range is limited. Bai Lin, your tech support was timely, but your battlefield adaptability needs to improve!"
"Captain, that summary is a little brutal, don’t you think!"
Sun Yang wore a miserable expression.
"Can’t you say anything good? I took out a bunch of those bugs!"
"You took out a few, sure, but you wasted too much ammunition!"
Li Chang’an pointed out mercilessly.
"In a battle, any waste can be fatal.
If you don’t want to die, you learn to make every shot count!"
"...Alright, I get it!"
Sun Yang slumped back in his seat, dejected. The criticism had clearly hit him hard.
"That goes for the rest of you, too!"
Li Chang’an’s gaze swept over each of them, his tone still severe.
"The Insect Hunter Squad exists to fight the Insect Race. We don’t have time to waste on pointless mistakes.
Starting tomorrow, I expect one hundred and twenty percent from everyone. Anyone who falls behind is off the squad!"
The break room fell silent for several seconds. No one else spoke.
Han Ruoxi stole a glance at Sun Yang. Seeing his glum expression, she couldn’t help but whisper.
"Come on, stop moping. It’s just a little more training, isn’t it? You’re not actually scared, are you?"
"Who’s scared? I’m just..."
Sun Yang started to retort, but then he remembered Li Chang’an’s lecture and ended up just pouting.
"Forget it. I’m not going to argue with you!"
Li Chang’an glanced at them but said nothing more.
He turned off the holographic projection, stood up, and said.
"Alright, go get some rest.
Reassemble in two hours sharp!"
Everyone got up and left, and while there was some grumbling, no one dared to dawdle.
Two hours later, the assembly alert blared through the Insect Hunter Squad’s dormitories.
Sun Yang, who had only just lain down, tumbled out of bed. His hair was a bird’s nest as he mumbled a complaint.
"The Captain is dead set on not letting us rest! It’s only been two hours! I barely closed my eyes and now we have to assemble again. Are there no human rights anymore?"
He rubbed his eyes as he struggled into his combat uniform, even misaligning two of the buttons.
"Sun Yang, if you dawdle any longer, the Captain’s going to have to come drag you there himself!"
Han Ruoxi poked her head out of the adjacent room, a compressed biscuit dangling from her mouth, her tone dripping with glee.
"Maybe I should record it for you? We can all see what it looks like when the Captain has to drag you out."
"Han Ruoxi! Can you stop being so damn snarky for once?"
Sun Yang shot her an angry glare, so flustered he even put his shoes on the wrong feet.
"Can’t you show a little concern for your teammate’s feelings? We’re supposed to be comrades in arms who live and die together!"
"Concern? For you? You think you deserve it?"
Han Ruoxi rolled her eyes, turned back into her room, and muttered.
"It’s your own fault for running that mouth of yours all the time. Serves you right!"
"Aren’t you worried you’ll actually anger me to death one of these days?"
Furious, Sun Yang took two steps after her, only to almost run right into Shen Qiuyue as he stepped out the door.
She walked past him with an icy expression, not even giving him a sidelong glance.
"Qiuyue, you’ve got to say something to her! Han Ruoxi mocks me like this every single day. How is our team supposed to get along?"
Sun Yang complained to Shen Qiuyue, clutching at her like a lifeline.
"If you weren’t so noisy, your relationship would be fine."
Shen Qiuyue replied coldly while adjusting the High-Energy Dueling Sword at her hip, then quickened her pace toward the assembly point.
"You people..."
Sun Yang stood frozen for a few seconds before finally sighing.
"Forget it. I guess it’s just my bad luck."
A few minutes later, everyone in the Insect Hunter Squad had arrived at the assembly point on time.
Li Chang’an was already standing in the center of the field, holding a mission briefing. His expressionless gaze swept over each of them.
"Good. Everyone’s on time."
He nodded and placed the mission briefing on a nearby projector.
"Next up is today’s priority mission: high-pressure simulation training!"
"High-pressure simulation?"
Han Ruoxi frowned.
"Captain, you can’t be serious. We just got back from a mission, and now you’re throwing us into training this intense? Do you think we’re made of iron?"
"You’re not made of iron, but you can’t afford to be useless, either!"
Li Chang’an looked up, his gaze cold as he stared at her.
"The purpose of high-pressure simulation training is to improve your ability to work together under extreme conditions.
The scenario for this simulation will be a large-scale ambush by the Insect Race."
