Chapter 707: Chapter 346: A Real Person, Not a Machine
"I’m telling you, my old back really can’t take this high-intensity training!"
"Cut the crap. Finish the ten-kilometer run, then it’s combat training!"
Li Chang’an stood before the team, his Saw Chain Sword slung over his shoulder, his voice flat.
"The Insect Race won’t wait for your back to feel better before they attack!"
"Sigh... Shen Qiuyue, I told you our Captain is a Devil, right? He’s completely unreasonable!"
Sun Yang glanced at Shen Qiuyue standing beside him, trying to rally an ally.
"Shut it, Sun Yang!"
Shen Qiuyue shot back.
"If you don’t want to run, I can report it to the Commander and have you sent back home to farm!"
"No, no, no, I was just kidding!"
Sun Yang quickly waved his hands.
"I was just trying to lighten the mood!"
Han Ruoxi stood to the side, holding her small Electric Power Regulator, and glanced at Sun Yang.
"If you talked less, you’d be able to breathe more easily during the run!"
"Han Ruoxi, all your sarcastic remarks really make life feel meaningless!"
Sun Yang clutched his chest, feigning pain.
"But I’ll keep going, because I am a strong man!"
"Alright, enough dawdling. Get moving!"
Li Chang’an lifted his chin.
"Whoever comes in last gets no dinner tonight!"
"That’s too harsh! Captain Chang’an, I’m a real person, not a machine!"
Sun Yang looked miserable but started running anyway, muttering nonstop.
"What is this world coming to... Where’s the justice..."
The team started running along the path outside the base. Shen Qiuyue consistently held the lead with Han Ruoxi right behind her. Sun Yang was second to last. As for Bai Lin, he was nowhere to be seen.
"Hey, where’s Bai Lin?"
As Sun Yang ran, he glanced around and couldn’t help but ask.
"Don’t tell me that guy ran straight back to the base to hide?"
"He went ahead to scout for signals,"
Li Chang’an said calmly.
"He left before breakfast."
"Of course the tech guys have it easy!"
Sun Yang lamented, gasping for breath.
"Why didn’t I learn how to hack?"
After the ten-kilometer run, everyone was exhausted and gasping for air. Only Shen Qiuyue still looked to be in good shape.
She walked up to Li Chang’an and asked.
"What’s next? Straight to combat training, or do we get a break?"
"Get some water. Sparring practice starts in ten minutes."
Li Chang’an tossed out the order and turned toward the training equipment at the side.
"He’s such a workaholic,"
Han Ruoxi muttered softly, watching Li Chang’an’s retreating back.
"Hey, you guys think the Captain pushes himself so hard because of some tragic childhood story?"
Sun Yang leaned against a tree, drinking water with a gossipy look on his face.
"If you want to know, just go ask him yourself!"
Han Ruoxi rolled her eyes.
"Forget it, forget it. As if I’d dare!"
Sun Yang waved his hands dismissively.
"The look he gives could scare a man to death!"
Ten minutes later, the team reassembled and began their combat training.
This time, they sparred in pairs while Li Chang’an stood to the side, observing.
"Han Ruoxi, don’t even think about using your Superpower. This is Body Skill only!"
Li Chang’an pointed at her and Sun Yang.
"You two are a pair. Begin!"
"Huh?! Captain, are you trying to get me killed?"
Sun Yang looked miserable.
"She might not be able to electrocute me to death, but her fists definitely can!"
"Less talk. Start!"
Li Chang’an said coldly.
The training ground was instantly filled with the sounds of combat. Sun Yang was completely overwhelmed by Han Ruoxi, letting out pitiful cries from time to time.
"Captain, I give up! I surrender! Just don’t let her hit my face!"
"Get up. Again!"
Li Chang’an said coldly.
Sun Yang lay sprawled on the ground, a look of utter despair on his face.
"Captain, I really can’t do this anymore. Can’t we stop this torture?"
"You think the Insect Race will show you any mercy when they arrive?"
Li Chang’an walked over and kicked Sun Yang in the butt.
"Get up. Keep going!"
After training, everyone was beyond exhausted, dragging their feet back to the dorms.
"Captain, don’t you ever get tired? You put us through this every day. Are you built differently from us or something?"
Sun Yang asked from his bed, his voice barely a whisper.
"I wake up two hours before all of you for my own physical training," Li Chang’an said, sitting to the side as he polished his Saw Chain Sword.
"But if you’re really that tired, you can go to the Commander and request a transfer. No one’s stopping you."
"No, no, no! I wouldn’t dare!"
Sun Yang shrank back.
"I was just trying to give you some feedback!"
"Tomorrow at 6 a.m. Assemble at the combat training grounds."
Li Chang’an stood up and walked out.
"Tomorrow? Captain, can’t we take it easy for a day?"
Sun Yang wailed from his bed.
No one paid him any mind.
The dorm was silent for a moment before Han Ruoxi suddenly spoke.
"I mean, what on earth did our Captain go through? It feels like he never relaxes!"
"He’s a man of iron," Shen Qiuyue said faintly, leaning back in her chair.
"But a Captain like him is reassuring."
"Reassuring, maybe, but it’s also exhausting!"
"Sigh... Another day in Hell tomorrow."
Sun Yang rolled over in his bed, his eyes drifting to the ceiling with a look of utter despair.
"Why don’t you go talk to the Captain and ask him to go a little easier on us tomorrow?" Han Ruoxi said, leaning against her bed and hugging her knees, her voice tinged with teasing.
"Easy for you to say, Han Ruoxi! You go tell him!"
Sun Yang glared at her and patted his chest.
"Am I a coward? Of course not! I’m just afraid of interrupting the Captain’s sacred plan!"
"Hmph. A coward’s a coward. Stop trying to act all noble."
Han Ruoxi shot him a look, then reached for an Energy drink by her bed and gave it a shake.
"Anyway, instead of wasting time complaining, you should be figuring out how to avoid getting your butt kicked by me tomorrow morning."
