Enlightenment: Attaining the Dao at Age 8

Chapter 711 - 348: This Training Is Excessive

Chapter 711: Chapter 348: This Training Is Excessive

"I just don’t get it. The Insect Race comes at us every single day. Can’t we give ourselves a break?"

Shen Qiuyue said nothing, simply sheathing her sword. She sat down and silently began to clean her gear.

"Sister Qiuyue, say something!"

Sun Yang couldn’t help but look at her.

"You think this training is too much, don’t you?"

"If you think it’s too much, you can take it up with the commander!"

Shen Qiuyue glanced up at him and said coldly.

"But I’d advise against it, unless you want to lose what little time you have left for sleep!"

Sun Yang immediately shut up and flopped over on his bed.

"Fine, I give up..."

Meanwhile, in the command room, Li Chang’an was reporting the day’s mission status to Liu Na.

"Are you certain the Insect Race nest in that area has been completely cleared?"

Liu Na sat behind her desk, her brow slightly furrowed as she tapped her fingers on the surface.

"It’s cleared, but that was just the periphery!"

Li Chang’an stood ramrod straight, his voice steady.

"According to Bai Lin’s reconnaissance, the main Insect Race hive is likely deeper in. It’ll require a large-scale force to be dispatched for a follow-up sweep!"

Liu Na nodded, pondering for a moment.

"You’ve all worked hard. The Insect Race has been highly active recently, and the Insect Hunter Squad is our greatest asset."

"Just doing our duty!"

Li Chang’an replied simply.

"Alright, you’re dismissed. Go get some rest."

Liu Na gestured with her hand.

"There will be other missions to assign tomorrow."

Li Chang’an nodded and turned to leave the command room.

Night fell. The dormitory had quieted down. Han Ruoxi was lying in bed with her eyes closed, but she was still muttering.

"Sun Yang, can you stop tossing and turning? You’re going to break the bedframe!"

"Hey, I can’t sleep! My legs are killing me!"

Sun Yang sighed.

"Those two Insect Kings today... they scared me to death. And our Captain? He just charged right in, hacking away, without a single thought for us support guys!"

"Sun Yang, say one more word and I’ll consider giving you extra training right now."

Li Chang’an’s cold voice came from the side.

"Captain, I was wrong!"

Sun Yang immediately pulled the blanket over his head and didn’t dare make another sound.

Han Ruoxi couldn’t help but laugh as she rolled over.

’He’s such a character. He’s the biggest troublemaker on our team!’

"Wake-up is at five tomorrow morning. Assembly is an hour earlier,"

Li Chang’an said nonchalantly.

"Huh?!"

Sun Yang shot up in bed.

"Captain, why so early? Didn’t we agree on six?"

"Because you talk too much."

Li Chang’an said calmly, his eyes still closed.

"Any more nonsense and I’ll make it four."

Sun Yang wilted like a frostbitten eggplant, sinking back onto his bed in complete silence.

At five in the morning, before the sky had fully brightened, a series of urgent knocks echoed through the Insect Hunter Squad’s dormitory.

"Get up! Assembly!"

Li Chang’an’s cold voice came from outside the door, an alarm clock that jolted the entire dorm from its slumber.

"Argh—Captain, it’s so early!"

Sun Yang was still lying on his stomach, wrapped tightly in his blanket with only his head sticking out.

"Can’t we be a little more humane about this?"

"Cut the crap. Anyone not down here in one minute gets an extra five-kilometer run today!"

There was no room for negotiation in Li Chang’an’s voice.

Han Ruoxi rolled out of bed, grabbed her clothes, and quickly got dressed, yawning as she put on her shoes.

"Sun Yang, do you have a short-term memory? You were warned last night, and you’re still dawdling today?"

"I’m trying to hurry, but my legs are so sore they feel like they’re about to snap!"

Sun Yang tumbled off the bed and struggled to put on his shoes.

’The Captain is dead set on working me to death!’

"You still have time to complain?"

Shen Qiuyue, already fully geared up, shot Sun Yang a cold glance.

"We’re going to be late, and I’m not covering for you!"

"Sister Qiuyue, I won’t! I’m ready now!"

Sun Yang frantically grabbed his gear and ran out of the dormitory after the others.

The squad quickly assembled on the training grounds. Li Chang’an stood at the front, his gaze sweeping over each person.

"Today’s training is in three parts. First, a five-kilometer weighted run. Second, combat sparring. Third, a simulated Insect Race ambush!"

Li Chang’an’s tone was flat, but it made Sun Yang grimace.

’A five-kilometer weighted run... More running!’

Sun Yang muttered under his breath.

’Does the Captain just get a kick out of watching us run?’

"Sun Yang, one more word out of you and I’m doubling your weight for today."

Li Chang’an said coldly.

Sun Yang immediately shut his mouth, bowing his head without another peep.

"The weighted gear is ready. Each of you, pick a set. We start in five minutes!"

Li Chang’an turned and pointed to a nearby pile of sandbags and weighted vests.

"Choose your own. Don’t waste time!"

Han Ruoxi was the first to step forward. She picked up a standard-weight sandbag, strapped it on, and glanced back at Sun Yang.

"Don’t you dare pick a light one, or the Captain will be on your case again!"

"Don’t worry, I wouldn’t dare slack off!"

Sun Yang gritted his teeth, casually slinging a sandbag over his shoulder and trying his best to look unfazed.

"It’s just a run. Piece of cake!"

"Good luck with that, then!"

Han Ruoxi smiled and went to the side to stretch her arms and legs.

Five minutes later, the weighted run began. Li Chang’an led the way as always, his stride steady, the sandbag on his back seemingly having no effect on him.

Sun Yang was in the middle of the pack. Before he’d even run a full kilometer, he was already gasping for air and muttering nonstop.

’Oh my god, this sandbag is even heavier than yesterday’s. The Captain must be doing this on purpose, right?’
