Chapter 774: Chapter 379: Buy Me Time (Part 2)
The scar-faced man answered, trembling, not daring to hide a single thing.
"Human trafficking? You animals!"
Hearing the words "human trafficking," Shen Qiuyue’s anger flared. She raised her sword again, ready to kill the scar-faced man.
"Qiuyue, calm down!"
Li Chang’an once again stopped Shen Qiuyue’s impulsive move, his voice calm.
"Captain, what’s the use in keeping this scum alive?"
Shen Qiuyue said angrily.
"He’s useful. People like him know a lot, which can help us learn more about this base!"
Li Chang’an explained.
"Besides, the goal of our mission isn’t just to eliminate these pirates, but also to investigate the force behind them!"
"Keeping this pirate leader alive might lead us to more clues!"
Shen Qiuyue fell silent for a moment, then finally lowered her sword. But her gaze on the scar-faced man remained icy cold.
"Fine, Captain. I’ll listen to you."
"Good."
Li Chang’an nodded and looked at the scar-faced man again.
"Where is Blackbeard? Take us to him!"
Li Chang’an commanded.
"Black... Blackbeard... He... he’s not here... He’s... he’s in the depths of the base... the control center..."
the scar-faced man answered, trembling.
"The control center? Take us there!"
Li Chang’an’s tone left no room for argument.
"Yes... yes... I’ll take you..."
The scar-faced man nodded hastily, struggled to his feet, and led Li Chang’an and the others toward the depths of the base.
The scar-faced man walked ahead, leading the way, with the Insect Hunter Squad following close behind.
The passageway became more complex, with an increasing number of forks.
"This place really is like a maze!"
Sun Yang commented, looking at the intricate corridors all around.
"A pirate’s lair has to be well-hidden, of course!"
Shen Qiuyue said.
"Behave yourself! Don’t try any tricks!"
Shen Qiuyue warned, prodding the scar-faced man’s back with her sword.
The scar-faced man shuddered and immediately bowed and scraped.
"I wouldn’t dare, I wouldn’t dare! I’d never try any tricks!"
"See that you don’t."
Shen Qiuyue snorted coldly.
"By the way, what kind of person is your boss, Blackbeard?"
Sun Yang asked curiously.
The scar-faced man hesitated, glanced at the sword in Shen Qiuyue’s hand, and quickly said,
"Boss Blackbeard... is a powerful man... very powerful..."
"How powerful?"
Sun Yang pressed.
"Well... I’m not too sure... he’s just... very powerful... In our corps, no one dares to defy his orders!"
The scar-faced man spoke evasively, seemingly unwilling to talk much about Blackbeard.
"Tch, so mysterious."
Sun Yang pursed his lips and didn’t press the matter further.
At the end of the passageway, a massive metal door appeared.
The metal door was sealed shut, a red warning light flashing on its surface.
"The control center is in there!"
the scar-faced man said, pointing at the metal door with a trace of fear in his voice.
"Open the door!"
Li Chang’an commanded.
"This... this door... needs a password... I... I don’t know the password..."
the scar-faced man stammered.
"You don’t know the password?"
Shen Qiuyue’s eyes grew cold, and the tip of her sword once again pressed against the scar-faced man’s back.
"I... I really don’t know... Only Boss Blackbeard knows the password..."
The scar-faced man was so scared he was on the verge of tears.
"Bai, can you crack the password?"
Li Chang’an asked, looking at Bai Lin.
"I can try, but it will take time!"
Bai Lin replied.
"How long?"
Li Chang’an pressed.
"At least... ten minutes!"
Bai Lin said, uncertain.
"Ten minutes... That’s too long!"
Li Chang’an frowned.
"Is there a faster way?"
Li Chang’an asked again.
Bai Lin shook his head.
"Unless... we use brute force!"
"Brute force?"
Li Chang’an mulled it over.
"How long would a brute-force attack take?"
Li Chang’an asked.
"If I give it everything I’ve got... probably... five minutes!"
Bai Lin replied.
"Five minutes... Acceptable."
Li Chang’an nodded.
"Sun Yang, Ruo Xi, Qiuyue, prepare for battle. Bai, start cracking!"
Li Chang’an ordered.
"Understood!"
The squad members responded in unison, each preparing for combat.
Bai Lin walked up to the metal door, took out a small device, and began to crack the door’s password.
The device emitted a faint electrical hum as various data flashed rapidly across its screen.
"What... what are you doing?!"
Seeing Bai Lin’s actions, the scar-faced man panicked and screamed in terror.
"Shut up!"
Shen Qiuyue barked, kicking the back of the scar-faced man’s knee.
The scar-faced man cried out, fell to his knees, and didn’t dare speak again.
"Hurry! Hurry! It’s cracking too slowly!"
Sun Yang urged anxiously, his eyes glued to the metal door, afraid enemies would suddenly burst out.
"Speeding up... speeding up... almost there... almost there..."
Beads of sweat formed on Bai Lin’s forehead as his fingers flew across the keypad, trying to speed up the cracking process.
Time passed, second by agonizing second. Each one felt like an eternity.
Finally, as everyone waited anxiously, a line of green characters appeared on the device’s screen.
"Cracked it!"
Bai Lin shouted excitedly.
"Open the door!"
Li Chang’an immediately ordered.
Bai Lin pressed a button on the device.
CLICK!
The metal door slowly slid open.
Behind the door was a spacious and bright hall, even more luxurious and imposing than the previous one.
In the center of the hall stood a huge command table, its surface covered with various light screens displaying dense arrays of data and images.
A tall man with a full, bushy beard sat behind the command table, his back to the door, staring at a light screen in front of him.
The man wore a black military uniform with gold epaulets on his shoulders, indicating his extraordinary status.
He was the leader of the Black Blood Mercenary Corps, Blackbeard.
"Blackbeard, we’re here."
Li Chang’an said calmly as he walked slowly into the hall.
Hearing the voice, Blackbeard slowly turned around.
His face was covered by a bushy beard, revealing only a pair of sharp, hawk-like eyes filled with ferocity and cunning.
"Who are you?"
Blackbeard asked, looking at Li Chang’an and his team. His voice was low and hoarse, tinged with a hint of authority.
"Interstellar Warrior Corps, Insect Hunter Squad!"
Li Chang’an answered again.
"Insect Hunter Squad? Never heard of you."
Blackbeard sneered, his tone dismissive.
"Looks like you’ve come here to die!"
"Come here to die? I think you’re the one who’s about to die!"
Sun Yang couldn’t help but retort mockingly.
"Kid, you’ve got a big mouth. Do you know where you are? This is my territory! Daring to come here is a death wish!"
Blackbeard roared, slamming a hand on the table as he stood up.
Behind him stood a dozen or so men in black, holding various weapons and glaring menacingly at Li Chang’an’s team.
"Your territory? Not for long."
Li Chang’an said calmly, drawing his Saw Chain Sword.
"Hahaha, how arrogant! Just the few of you brats? You think you can take my territory? You must be dreaming!"
Blackbeard laughed wildly, his eyes filled with disdain.
"Brothers, get them! Kill them all! Leave no one alive!"
At Blackbeard’s command, the dozen or so men in black immediately charged toward Li Chang’an and his team.
"Kill!"
Li Chang’an also roared, leading his team to meet the charge.
The battle erupted once more.
These enemies were stronger and tougher than the previous Black Blood Mercenaries.
Their weapons were more sophisticated, their coordination was tighter, and their combat prowess was greater.
However, the Insect Hunter Squad was not to be underestimated.
Li Chang’an led the charge, rushing to the front. The Saw Chain Sword in his hand moved like a raging storm, cutting down one man in black after another.
Han Ruoxi’s Electric Superpower was even more potent. Thick arcs of electricity, like bolts of thunder, struck the men in black, scorching them to a crisp.
Shen Qiuyue’s swordsmanship was even more exquisite. The gleam of her blade flashed like a work of art; every strike landed precisely on an enemy’s vital point for a fatal blow.
