The Rising Phoenix

Chapter 1071: Exploded To Her Face

Chapter 1071: Chapter 1071: Exploded To Her Face

Crack... Crack...

Before Bai Xifeng could even react, the tiny fracture rapidly spiderwebbed throughout the entire length of the blade. The very next second...

Bang!

The entire weapon violently shattered into countless glittering pieces, scattering fragments all over the stone floor of the workshop.

Bai Xifeng stood there in the ringing silence, staring blankly at the empty hilt in her hand before letting out a long, heavy sigh.

"My first real attempt... a complete and utter failure." Bai Xifeng uttered.

She crouched down on the floor and picked up one of the larger, broken fragments.

"The molecular fusion was highly unstable." Bai Xifeng murmured, carefully observing the jagged fracture lines under the light. Instead of throwing the ruins away in frustration, she began to analytically dissect her mistakes. "The beast fang’s raw aura must have rejected the Xien Stone’s core halfway through the tempering stage... and my spiritual energy distribution during the hammering phase was uneven."

She mentally catalogued every single error, storing the data away. Then, she stood up and dusted off her clothes.

"I will try again." Bai Xifeng stated.

She did not hesitate for even a second. Resources were no longer a limiting factor for her. Back in her early days, every single piece of material had to be painfully and dangerously collected one by one, making every failure a heartbreaking loss of resources. Now, however, her storage rune was practically overflowing with premium materials, allowing her the luxury to practice freely.

Without wasting another moment, Bai Xifeng prepared a second batch of Xien Stone and beast fangs.

This time, she intentionally slowed down every single movement. She controlled the furnace’s temperature with even greater precision. Every circulation of her internal spiritual energy became steadier and more fluid, and every strike of her hammer was deliberate, rhythmic, and perfectly calculated. She repeated the arduous forging process from beginning to end, pouring her soul into the metal.

Unfortunately...

Crack.

The blade developed another identical fracture during the cooling phase. Although the structure had held together much longer than her first attempt, it still ultimately failed.

"...Failed again." Bai Xifeng sighed.

Bai Xifeng scratched her head in mild frustration, running her hands through her hair until her already messy locks became completely dishevelled. She sat down cross-legged on the dusty floor beside the warm furnace, closing her eyes as she replayed every single physical and spiritual step of the process inside her mind.

"It definitely is not a problem with the quality of the materials...The flame temperature was also perfect this time... So... where exactly did I make the mistake?" Bai Xifeng asked herself.

She reopened the ancient inheritance manual, spreading it across her knees as she compared every written step with her active memories. She picked up the shattered fragments from both failed swords, studying the internal crystallisation and the fracture patterns from multiple angles.

Rather than becoming discouraged by the setbacks, Bai Xifeng’s eyes gradually lit up with a brilliant fire. Every failure was teaching her something invaluable. Every shattered sword was revealing the subtle secrets of the craft, bringing her one step closer to becoming a true master of armaments.

"I refuse to believe I can’t forge even one decent spiritual sword tonight." Bai Xifeng encouraged herself.

With renewed, fierce determination burning in her heart, Bai Xifeng gathered a third set of raw materials, rolled up her wide sleeves once more, and mentally prepared herself to completely conquer the stubborn forge.

Bai Xifeng stared silently at the messy pile of broken metal fragments scattered across the charred surface of the forging table. The room had suddenly become unusually quiet. Only the occasional loud crackling from the active forging furnace and the faint, warm glow of the orange flames illuminated the dark workshop.

"...Again." Bai Xifeng muttered under her breath, a small sigh escaping her lips.

She crouched down slightly and picked up one of the broken metal pieces between her fingers, inspecting it under the light. Tiny, intricate spiderweb-like cracks covered its entire surface, completely ruining its structural integrity.

"The impurities inside the ore were definitely not removed completely..." Bai Xifeng mumbled to herself, turning the scrap over. "No... wait, that’s only a small part of the problem."

She closed her eyes and carefully replayed every single physical movement she had made during the previous forging process.

The initial heating.

The complex folding.

The brutal hammering.

The precise infusion of her own spiritual energy.

The intricate carving of the strengthening runic patterns.

Everything replayed repeatedly in vivid, slow-motion detail inside her mind. Suddenly, her brow furrowed.

"...The core temperature." Bai Xifeng finally figured it out, her eyes snapping open.

The Xien Stone was absolutely not an ordinary, standard ore. Unlike common spiritual metals found across the continent, it naturally contained an extremely dense, stubborn earth-element spiritual essence. If it remained inside the raging flames for even a fraction of a second too long, that dense earth essence would become highly unstable and begin violently rejecting any foreign material attempted to be fused into its structure.

"The beast teeth... I tried to forcefully fuse them way too late in the process." Bai Xifeng finally understood, the realisation hitting her like a wave.

She had been stubbornly treating the harvested beast teeth like an additional, secondary material that should only be added after the main sword body had already been fully shaped and moulded. However, according to the ancient forging manual’s strict guidelines, the beast material had to be completely fused during the earliest possible stage. This allowed both distinct materials to stabilise together while they were being heavily tempered under the hammer.

"No wonder everything violently exploded in my face." Bai Xifeng slapped her own forehead in exasperation. "I really, thoroughly deserved those explosive failures."
