Reborn as the Blissful Wife in the countryside

Chapter 1735: Acting

Chapter 1735: Chapter 1735: Acting

"Really?" Gu Jinli looked expectant, she was quite eager to hear it.

"Yes." Qin San Lang also wanted to tell her. She had never seen her parents and elder brothers, so he would occasionally tell her some family anecdotes and his childhood stories, letting her know what his childhood and family were like before.

"Hurry up and tell." Gu Jinli pulled him to sit down, listening while eating.

Qin San Lang smiled, sat down, handed her a bowl of porridge, and said: "This is actually a bit of a calculation..."

The Great Chu and Da Rong were sworn enemies. Father Qin often fought at the border in the past. Once, he was ambushed by the Rong bandits Witch Army, injured in the Longshan Mountain, fleeing while leaving signals for his subordinate assassins. Yet, before they could arrive, he fainted.

When he woke up, he was in a hunter’s house.

In the hunter’s house, there were only a grandfather and his young granddaughter. The granddaughter was remarkably beautiful; except for the calluses on her hands, there was nothing typical of a mountain hunter’s daughter.

Stranger still, the young woman called him husband.

Father Qin laughed at the time, but before he finished laughing, the old hunter came in, calling him grandson-in-law, and said, "Young Master, that stag may be a rare treasure, but you shouldn’t fight with the Rong bandits for it. The Rong bandits are ruthless; just give them the stag, and return alive. If anything happens to you, won’t Guo Niang have to become a widow?"

Father Qin’s eyebrows knitted, looking at the tearful woman beside him: "Are you Guo Niang, my wife?"

Impossible, my wife is a famous beauty in the Capital, gentle and virtuous. Though you may look decent, compared to my wife, you’re far off!

Guo Niang was shocked, rushing over: "Young Master, what’s wrong with you? Did you hurt your head and forget about us?"

Then she cried to the old hunter, "Grandfather, Young Master doesn’t remember us anymore! What are we going to do?"

Guo Niang cried miserably.

Father Qin sneered coldly.

The old hunter comforted Guo Niang: "Don’t cry, don’t cry, grandfather will go fetch the old medical craftsman from the other side of the mountain to check on Young Master."

He then advised Father Qin: "Young Master, please rest and recover; grandpa will fetch a doctor for you."

He hurriedly grabbed his tools, took a wild rabbit, and went to find the doctor.

Guo Niang, however, clung to Father Qin, crying.

Father Qin felt disgusted, feeling dirty, guilt-ridden for his delicate wife back home. He wanted to kick her away, but being severely injured and seemingly drugged by a knockout drug, he was powerless... Just when he thought he would lose his innocence, a group of people suddenly came to the door.

"Guo Niang, we heard your Young Master was rescued, we’ve come to check on him." A middle-aged uncle bent over as he entered the low mud house, looking at Father Qin: "Young Master, you’ve finally woken up; please recover, or how will Guo Niang and her grandpa get by?"

A middle-aged woman with a vegetable basket, containing some soybeans, also came over and said: "Young Master, we know you want to quickly earn silver and leave the mountain to find your parents. But since you’ve married Guo Niang and promised the first child will bear her surname, you must fulfill that promise and not be ungrateful!"

As soon as she finished, another woman stepped forward, speaking a bunch of words.

When they finished speaking, Father Qin was bewildered, looking at his rough clothes, thinking: Could it be that I’m not a Marquis, but a mountain hunter’s son-in-law?!

So, you just woke injured, only for a crowd to insist you’re not who you are, but a hunter Hu’s grandson-in-law.

Becoming a son-in-law was due to your father’s severe illness needing medicine; the old hunter provided the medicine but demanded your father surrender a son to the Hu family as a son-in-law, only being allowed to leave the mountain after having a son.

Yet, Hunter Hu spoke easily, saying you could leave sooner if the medicine’s cost was repaid to find your father.

Determined, you fought for the stag to get the medicine but encountered fleeing Rong bandits, were injured, and ultimately rescued by Hunter Hu.

Three men can make a tiger, Father Qin almost believed them after hearing it all.

"I’m injured, why doesn’t my father come see me?" Father Qin asked.

"Oh, Young Master, you’re still thinking of your father? Your father listened to your stepmother and sold you for medicine, why think of him?" a woman shouted: "Stop thinking about it, your father valuing the stag more than medicine was a lie; he sold it and left the Northwest for a better life; he’s no longer suffering here!"

Goodness, this wasn’t far from being dead and unresolved.

Father Qin feigned despair after hearing, squeezing out a few rough tears, choking: "My father is such a person?"

The people in the room rejoiced inside; did he believe them?

Everybody quickly said: "Young Master, don’t be sad, now that you know your father’s nature, it’s not too late; live well with Guo Niang, have a son, and after a few years, go find your father?"

Father Qin: "My father is such a bastard, why would I leave the mountain to find him? I’m staying in the mountain forever."

Those words made everyone anxious, urging him: "Young Master, he is your father, he may be heartless, but you shouldn’t be. When you have a son, you should take him to see his grandfather."

Guo Niang also said: "Yes, husband, our son should meet his grandfather too."

Father Qin observed their expressions, listening to their contradictory words, sneering inwardly, suspecting they might be Rong bandits hiding spies in the mountain, so he continued acting.

That night, Hunter Hu returned with a barefoot doctor, jumping around him like a shaman for 30 minutes, then gave him some grey water to drink, which he discarded unobserved.

But he couldn’t escape; he was too injured and weakened by the soft-body drug, moving was difficult.

However, Father Qin had left signals while escaping; it took his assassins only five days to find Hunter Hu’s home, surrounding it entirely, capturing all surrounding households and the barefoot doctor practicing shamanism.

"Use torture, interrogate, find the Rong bandits’ hideout in the mountain!" Father Qin ordered, but the inquiry revealed unexpected results.

This group wasn’t Rong bandits spies, but mountain villagers.

They acted this play based entirely on Guo Niang’s words.

Guo Niang was indeed Hunter Hu’s granddaughter, but she grew up not in the mountain, but in Longshan Prefecture, serving as a maid in a wealthy family.

She climbed into the young master’s bed using her looks, hoping to rise as a concubine, but was resented by the young master’s mother, who sought to sell her through human traffickers.

Guo Niang was frightened, knowing if sold, she’d end up in filthy places. With the young master’s rewarded silver, she redeemed herself, promising never to return to the Prefecture or see the young master, staying in the mountain forever as a mountain civilian woman.

Relieved, the young master’s mother arranged her return to the mountain and two servants stationed at the mountain entrance for a year, confirming she didn’t descend the mountain before relaxing.

Yet, Guo Niang was not content!
