Chapter 643: Qian Shi’s Arrival

Chapter 643: Qian Shi’s Arrival

"We have heard the good news about that edict from the Governor being stopped by the imperial court."

"Yeah. That’s great news for all of us."

"I can’t imagine what to do if it was approved."

Old Heng, young master Chew and their friends started to talk about what they had heard and all of them glanced over at Lin Xuan Qi with a look of respect.

They didn’t expect it to be done but here they were.

The edict was indeed stopped for the time being, and even though they didn’t say it out loud, they knew that it was all thanks to Lin Xuan Qi.

Previously, when they visited to see if he had any ideas to stop the edict, Lin Xuan Qi’s reply was that he would try and figure it out.

They didn’t know how exactly he was able to do it.

But knowing that the result was what they were longing for was good enough for them.

"We’ve brought some gifts for you and your family." Old Heng said and gestured to the chests that were in the middle of the main hall with a smile.

His men, who were standing by the side of the chests, quickly opened them up and showed the gifts inside.

There were some clothes, jewelleries, antiques and paintings that were inside.

"It’s nothing much from us. We hope you would like it." Young master Chew chimed in and said.

The other businessmen in the main hall nodded their heads in unison.

"You shouldn’t have to..." Lin Xuan Qi said and waved his hands at the businessmen.

"No. We insist that you keep them." Old Heng said.

The others also said the same to Lin Xuan Qi.

Lin Xuan Qi gave out a long sigh and said with a reluctant expression, "I guess if you insist."

At least his efforts running around to ensure that the edict wouldn’t be approved was worth something.

He thought to himself and glanced over at Xiu.

Xiu gave him a nod and she knew what to do next.

While Xiu and the other servants got the chests into the back of the mansion, he sat down at his favorite seat and had a sip of his tea.

"Do you think they would try and push the edict through again?" One of the businessmen asked.

The other businessmen in the main hall frowned at the thought and they glanced at Lin Xuan Qi, eager to see if he had an answer to it.

Lin Xuan Qi gave out a sigh and their hearts sank with it.

"So, it’s possible...?" They got worried and asked again.

"I’m not sure, there might be more things happening.

"Things which are out of our control." Lin Xuan Qi said and the businessmen got even more worried by it.

They lowered their heads and pondered on what he had just said.

Lin Xuan Qi saw their dejected faces and he said, "Don’t worry, there might be someone coming to help us."

"I think you mean the Duke of Mu, Qian Shi?" Old Heng nodded his head and said.

"Master Heng’s eyes and ears are as good as mine." Lin Xuan Qi wasn’t too surprised by what Old Heng had said. He had been in business for many years and it wasn’t so far out that he had his own information network in Bian Jing.

"Duke of Mu, Qian Shi?" The other businessmen were not aware of Qian Shi’s arrival soon and they got excited by it.

"Does it mean that we wouldn’t have to pay whatever taxes for fighting against the cultivators from the north anymore?"

"Hope so. If not, what’s the point of him coming over here?"

"Does anyone of you know what he is like?"

They started to be curious about Qian Shi, eager to see if they could establish any meaningful connection with him.

With his stature as the Duke of Mu, things would be so much easier for them if they were able to do so.

Old Heng shook his head at them and said, "I think it’s better to give up whatever ploys or plans you have to be in contact with the Duke of Mu.

"He is not going to meet some unknown businessman out of nowhere."

His words poured cold water over the other businessmen’s heads and whatever they were thinking of went up in smoke.

Young master Chew also nodded his head at what Old Heng had said.

"The royals aren’t so easy for us to have an audience with.

"It would be considered a blessing from the heavens for businessmen like us to be able to see the Duke of Mu in person." He added and the other businessmen gave out yet another sigh.

Their status as businessmen in Da Qian wasn’t the greatest and they understood what Old Heng and young master Chew had said to be the truth.

Lin Xuan Qi frowned and chose to keep quiet about it.

He had plans to meet Qian Shi when Qian Shi arrived in Hong Feng City.

If he was able to pass the map with the locations of where the cultivators from the north were, it would help in the meeting between Qian Shi and Zhao Geng Nian when it happened.

But seeing how Qian Shi was someone enigmatic to Old Heng, young master Chew and the others, he decided not to create a commotion about it.

Just as he was thinking about it, one of Old Heng’s men came into the main hall and whispered something into Old Heng’s ears.

"Well, speaking of the devil. The Duke of Mu, Qian Shi, has arrived at the city gate." Old Heng said and that got the other businessmen intrigued.

"Should we go and have a look?"

"This might be our only chance to do so."

"I say that we should go and try our luck at it."

All of them wanted to go and catch a glimpse of Qian Shi at the city gates.

Even Old Heng who was clear-headed earlier couldn’t resist the opportunity to see Qian Shi in person.

Lin Xuan Qi saw their enthusiasm, shrugged his shoulders and said, "I think it’s fine if we go and try our luck."

It was better for him to try and meet Qian Shi as soon as possible.

He needed to get to Qian Shi before the Qing Feng Sect did.
