Chapter 667: Divine Ability Defeats Heaven's Will
In Li Fan's perception, as the exotic beasts held their ritual, the drifting heavenly providence deep within the wilderness began surging madly toward the summit of the black obelisk tower.
It was like a vast storm vortex. Lightning and thunder flashed without cease, and the sky itself grew dark and oppressive in response.
Seeing this, Li Fan tried to use the Xuan Bird Feather to contest for ownership of the heavenly providence. The result was obvious—a completely futile effort. Compared to a mere single feather, the black Xuan Bird atop the obelisk tower was the true master of this Beastkin World.
Under that immense pull, Li Fan could even faintly sense the heavenly providence he had already absorbed into his own body slowly being pried loose, as if it were being plundered away.
Though Fang Zaiji could not see the changes in heavenly providence, the black Xuan Bird's increasingly vivid form was visible to the naked eye.
A hint of gravity settled on his face, but his voice remained disdainful. "The dead are already dead. Do you think you can bring it back to life by kowtowing?"
Still, Fang Zaiji was cautious. Before the demonic beasts could finish their ritual, he conjured a towering hand gripping a massive, gray-black hammer. With a sudden motion, he slammed it down toward the black bird atop the tower.
Boom!
The gray hammer filled heaven and earth. Even the cloud-piercing obelisk tower seemed like a toy before it. As the hammer fell, a piercing roar of shattering thunder erupted.
It seemed as if, in the next instant, the obelisk tower and the tens of thousands of exotic beasts below would all be pulverized by that hammer.
But at that very moment, a bolt of lightning suddenly descended from the sky and struck the gray hammer with savage force. The hammer stalled for a moment in midair. Then dozens more bolts, thick as water barrels, crashed down upon it.
With each impact, the hammer's form shrank. Within moments, the gray hammer, once the size of a mountain, had been reduced to the size of an ordinary mortal's tool.
The very instant the lightning had been sent down, Fang Zaiji's expression shifted slightly.
It wasn't just because the gray hammer had been attacked. The entire world around him had erupted into cataclysm as well.
Rolling black clouds surged in from every direction, dark and heavy with moisture. Yellow, demonic winds howled like sharpened blades, splitting the earth, and with an eerie sentience they converged and swept toward Fang Zaiji as one.
Raging earthfire erupted without warning from beneath his feet, like furious dragons of flame roaring to devour him. Chains of shimmering golden runes came snaking out of the void without warning, wrapping around his limbs. All the while, black lightning flashed without pause above his head.
Fang Zaiji had become the mortal enemy of the entire Beastkin World. Wind, fire, thunder, lightning—everything in existence, driven by heaven's will, had begun an unending, life-or-death assault on him.
"Young Master, stay back for now," Fang Zaiji said, his gaze turning serious as he tossed out an azure bell. It hung protectively over Li Fan, who had already retreated a good distance.
Then he opened his mouth and spat out thirty-six flying blades, each shaped like a willow leaf.
These emerald-green blades moved with startling agility, as if alive, and in an instant wove a protective web around Fang Zaiji.
No matter how the rain lashed, the wind howled, the fire raged, or the lightning struck, all of it was easily repelled by those fleeting strands of green light.
Steady-faced, Fang Zaiji strode toward the obelisk tower. The golden chains around him tightened instantly, straining to hold him back, but his steps never faltered. The chains held taut only a moment before cracks began spiderwebbing across the sections connected to the void.
They stretched longer and longer, until finally, unable to bear the strain any further, they shattered inch by inch, scattering golden light across the sky.
The entire world as my enemy... this might be called the ultimate form of Formless Killing Mechanism. Yet even this can't touch so much as a single hair on Fang Zaiji's head. After all, the world itself is a level beneath him. Facing a Dao Unity powerhouse, no matter how it resists, it isn’t a match for him. Li Fan watched calmly from beneath the shelter of the azure bell.
Fang Zaiji drew closer and closer to the black obelisk tower. The exotic beasts that had been kowtowing and prostrating themselves began to lose their composure.
Some, growing increasingly terrified, bowed with even greater fervor. Others, panicked and desperate to flee, were beaten to death on the spot by beasts acting as enforcers. Still others threw caution to the wind and charged at Fang Zaiji without fear of death, hoping to wear down the terrifying invader at the cost of their own lives.
But their fates were already sealed. The gap in power between the two sides was too vast. By the time Fang Zaiji finally stood atop the obelisk tower, looking down at the shivering beasts prostrated all around him, he found the whole thing profoundly dull.
"Boring," he snorted, and summoned Li Fan to his side.
"Sect Leader, is this what you were looking for?" Fang Zaiji asked.
Without the ritual of the myriad beasts to sustain it, the Xuan Bird atop the tower had reverted to its true form. It turned out to be nothing more than a projection cast by a Xuan Bird statue.
The wandering heavenly providence gathered above the tower's peak, now unbound, slowly dispersed like flowing water to the various corners of the world.
Standing before Little Hei's statue, Li Fan activated his divine ability, Heaven's Will Is With Me, using the Xuan Bird Feather to absorb the wandering heavenly providence.
Like a hundred rivers flowing east to the sea, the absorption went exceptionally smoothly, with almost no resistance. It took only half a day for Li Fan to drain every scrap of gathered heavenly providence from the place.
The effects were immediate. Li Fan could instantly sense every rustle of grass and whisper of wind within a radius of several thousand li from the obelisk tower.
Within this area, he had nearly taken the place of heaven itself. Sun, rain, snow, raging storms—all now bent to Li Fan's whims.
He closed his eyes and searched for a moment, then his brow furrowed slightly.
Little Hei's corpse was not here. The reason the exotic beasts had been able to manipulate heaven's will through the ritual was simply that the statue had been imbued with a sliver of Little Hei's authority.
Still, it doesn't matter. As long as we're in this minor world, we'll find it eventually. Li Fan felt no particular concern.
In the days that followed, Li Fan and Fang Zaiji traversed the entire Beastkin World. Everywhere they went, the exotic beasts offered no resistance whatsoever and submitted completely.
What little will to fight they'd had left was utterly extinguished once the new passage was established and Liu San led the main force of the Medicine King Sect over.
"Young Master, you've truly found a fine place this time! I've been worrying that Longevity Valley was too small to give the disciples enough room for their activities!" Liu San's divine sense swept across the Beastkin World, and he nodded slightly, looking satisfied.
"Although most of these exotic beasts aren't worth mentioning in terms of strength, they're more than enough to help with planting and managing the spirit fields. The few with a bit more strength would make fine guards too.
"This is workable. Once I refine a batch of Beast-Taming Rings, we need not fear these beasts slipping out of control..."
With a few casual words exchanged between the two Dao Unity cultivators, the fate of every exotic beast in the Beastkin World was already sealed.
