Chapter 235: Chapter 235: Can I Be a Police Dog?
Henry Stark and Kyle Morgan drove to Eastgate Villa, where they picked up Renee Jennings to go find Grace Holland—also known as Little Red from the livestream.
Grace Holland took out a beef jerky stick and fed it to Goldie. "I never realized you were protecting me. Thank you so much, Goldie."
Goldie chewed on the beef jerky and barked muffledly, "Little Red, you’ve thanked me so many times already."
Grace Holland couldn’t understand what he was saying. She reached out and petted his fluffy head. "Thank goodness for you!"
Seeing Goldie finish the beef jerky, Grace Holland took out another stick. She was about to tear it open when Goldie held it down with his paw.
She looked up and saw Goldie shaking his head.
Grace Holland blinked and asked in confusion, "You don’t want any more?"
Goldie nodded. "I’ve had enough."
"Okay." Grace Holland put the beef jerky back.
"I’m heading home," Goldie announced.
With that, he walked to the door and waited for Grace Holland to open it.
"Goldie, wait a minute." Grace Holland walked over to him and explained, "That streamer is coming over. Can you wait for her, please?"
"Alright then." Goldie agreed readily and went back to the living room.
Worried he might get bored, Grace Holland picked out a cartoon for him to watch on a tablet.
A little while later, Grace Holland’s WeChat ringtone sounded, and she hurriedly answered the call.
Downstairs, Renee Jennings held her phone to her ear and said softly, "We’re here. What floor do you live on?"
Grace Holland quickly replied, "Third floor, 302."
"Okay." Renee Jennings ended the call and glanced at Henry Stark and Kyle Morgan. "Let’s go."
Standing at the door to 302, Renee Jennings raised her hand and knocked. "Grace, it’s me."
Grace Holland opened the door, her voice filled with excitement. "Streamer, you’re really here!"
Once inside, Henry Stark and Kyle Morgan presented their badges.
"Officers, please, have a seat." Grace Holland quickly brought over some stools for them.
Renee Jennings looked at Goldie and smiled. "Hello, righteous Goldie."
"Hello to you too." Goldie grinned goofily. "I was about to leave, but I waited just for you."
Renee said, "Thank you."
"No need to be so polite!"
Renee Jennings petted his head. "Goldie, I want to run something by you."
"What’s up?"
"Tomorrow night, when Little Red gets off work, don’t help her carry her bag. Can you do that?"
"Why? What if the bad guys hurt Little Red?"
Renee Jennings explained with a gentle smile, "You don’t have to worry. We’re here to help her. Those two are police officers."
"I know what police are." Goldie nodded his head. "My dad told me police are the people’s heroes. They protect peace and justice. If I wasn’t a dog, I’d want to be a cop too."
Hearing his words, Renee Jennings’s eyes curved into a smile. "Goldie, have you ever seen *Sergeant Black Cat*?"
Goldie shook his head. "Never seen it. A black cat can be a sergeant?"
Renee Jennings said, "Police stations have K-9s, too. They help officers solve cases and catch bad guys."
Goldie’s eyes suddenly lit up. "Really? Then can I be a police dog?"
"I think you could give it a try," Renee Jennings said. "But becoming a police dog requires rigorous training, and it will be very tough."
Goldie wagged his tail excitedly. "That’s okay! I’m not afraid of hard work."
Renee Jennings raised an eyebrow slightly. ’Looks like Goldie is a righteous dog with ambition.’ "Alright then, I’ll talk to them for you and see if you can try out at the K-9 training academy."
"That’s great!" Goldie was overjoyed. "Thank you!"
Seeing this, Kyle Morgan asked curiously, "What are you two talking about? Goldie seems really happy."
Renee Jennings said with a smile, "Goldie wants to be a police dog. I was thinking of recommending him for the K-9 academy to give it a try. Is that okay with you guys?"
Hearing this, Henry Stark let out a soft chuckle. "We can do that. Once this case is over, we’ll take him to the K-9 academy."
’It’s rare to come across a dog that wants to be a K-9.’
Goldie understood and yelped with joy, "This is awesome!"
"So it’s settled. Tomorrow, don’t help Little Red with her bag, got it?" Renee Jennings rubbed the dog’s head again.
Goldie nodded seriously. "I understand! I guarantee I’ll complete the mission!"
"Good boy," Renee said, then turned to Grace Holland. "Now, let’s go over the plan."
Grace Holland looked tense. "I’m listening."
**
Renee Jennings’s group left with Goldie.
Goldie was leading them to the place where the bad guys had been talking—a roadside malatang stall near the convenience store.
From a distance, Goldie spotted the two bad guys sitting at the malatang place. He stopped in his tracks and said warily, "The two bad guys are right over there!"
Hearing this, Renee Jennings narrowed her eyes and looked over. "Which two?"
There were two occupied tables at the malatang stall, both with two people.
Goldie said, "The ones with the bald guy."
Renee Jennings looked at the bald man’s table. Sitting next to him was a man with his short hair tied in a ponytail.
She whispered this to Henry Stark and Kyle Morgan, and Kyle took out his phone to snap a photo.
"Kai, you stay here," Henry Stark instructed. "Kian Cole will come meet you."
"Roger that," Kyle Morgan replied.
Henry Stark looked at Renee Jennings. "I’ll take you back."
"Okay." Renee Jennings nodded, then looked at Kyle Morgan. "Thanks for this."
"Not at all." Kyle Morgan waved a hand.
Renee Jennings then looked at Goldie. "I’m leaving now. See you tomorrow."
Goldie said, "Alrighty! Take care!"
After Renee Jennings and Henry Stark left, Kyle Morgan also went over to eat some malatang, sitting at the table behind the bald man.
Goldie was about to head back to the convenience store when he suddenly heard the bald man making a TSK TSK TSK sound.
He looked over curiously.
The bald man made a clicking sound. "Come here. I’ll give you a bone."
Goldie couldn’t be bothered with them. ’Can’t eat stuff that bad guys give you.’
’My dad makes me great meals every day, and I just had beef jerky at Little Red’s place. My belly is full.’
The bald man thought the dog was turning its nose up at the bone, so he took out a slice of meat. When that still didn’t attract Goldie, he threw the meat down in annoyance and stomped on it, crushing it forcefully.
Goldie returned to the convenience store entrance and lay down.
Kyle Morgan’s malatang arrived. He broke apart his disposable chopsticks and stirred the contents of his bowl, overhearing the bald man and his companion muttering to each other.
The more Kyle Morgan listened, the more outrageous he found it.
’Those two had just tried to poison Goldie!’
’Good thing Goldie didn’t eat that piece of meat!’
Now they were plotting to snatch Goldie and sell him to a dog meat trader.
Kyle Morgan gripped his chopsticks so tightly that they snapped in two.
’They’ve gone too far!’
’They go after young women, and they won’t even spare a small animal!’
Kyle Morgan took out his phone and furiously typed out what he’d heard, sending it to the group chat.
’It’s a good thing the boss had him and Zachary Conway stay here. There was no telling if these two animals would suddenly change their minds and go after Grace Holland tonight.’
Just as Zachary Conway arrived, the bald man and his companion were getting ready to pay and leave.
"How much?" the bald man asked.
The malatang stall’s owner glanced at the bill. "Fifty-seven in total. Just transfer fifty-five."
The next second—a digital voice announced, "You have received a payment of fifty yuan."
The owner frowned and said with a smile, "It’s fifty-five, not fifty. You just need to add another five yuan."
The bald man scoffed. "We eat here all the time. Just call it fifty."
