Chapter 249: Chapter 249: Insulting and Cursing Her
Michelle Shepherd hesitated for a long time, but finally agreed to the autopsy.
Kyle Morgan walked her out of the station. "Thank you for your cooperation."
Standing at the station entrance, Michelle Shepherd grabbed his hand and said emotionally, "You have to find the person who murdered my brother!"
Kyle Morgan’s expression was serious. "We’ll notify you as soon as we have any results."
"Okay!" Michelle Shepherd finally left, wiping her tears as she went.
Kyle Morgan let out a sigh of relief and turned to head back to the office.
The conference room door was pushed open from the outside. Renee Jennings looked up and saw Kyle Morgan walk in with milk tea. She raised an eyebrow. "Is Ms. Shepherd gone?"
"Yeah," Kyle Morgan said, exasperated. "Talking with her is exhausting."
Renee Jennings smiled. "My little spider has made some progress."
Kyle Morgan took a sip of his milk tea. "I just heard. If the little spider hadn’t provided that intel, it might have taken us a long time to uncover the truth behind this ’suicide’."
Fluffy, who was in its terrarium enjoying a bug, heard this and said happily, "Hehe, I’m so amazing!"
The corners of Renee Jennings’s lips turned up, a smile blooming in her eyes.
Seeing this, Kyle Morgan praised her from the heart, "You have a really beautiful smile."
As soon as he spoke, a low voice, tinged with an unreadable emotion, slowly sounded out: "She’s beautiful even when she doesn’t smile."
Kyle Morgan turned his head, saw Henry Stark, and blinked. "Boss, you’re here."
Henry Stark glanced at him, then looked at Renee Jennings, his tone softening a little. "You’ve worked hard today."
"I’m okay." Renee Jennings shook her head and said with a smile, "You guys are the ones who are really working hard."
"Well, look how lively it is in here." Levi Hollis walked into the conference room with a file. "These are Evan Shepherd’s call records. The last call was on the evening of the 21st, from a delivery runner."
"No call records from the early morning of the 23rd?" Renee Jennings asked.
"None." Levi Hollis’s expression was grim. "He and that woman were probably communicating via WeChat. The tech department is still restoring his phone."
Renee Jennings’s fine eyebrows furrowed slightly as she mused, "Can we contact that delivery runner and ask who placed the order for him to deliver something to Evan Shepherd that night?"
"We can." Levi Hollis nodded, then asked, "Did you find something?"
Renee Jennings explained gently, "The person who placed the order might be Fluffy’s owner. The owner is male and said that Evan Shepherd was a dog he kept. I suspect he’s the one who had a relationship with Evan Shepherd."
"Got it. I’ll go check right now." Levi Hollis left in a hurry.
Silence fell over the conference room.
Fluffy thought of something else and quickly added, "Renee, I forgot to tell you! My master also said the bad human’s purpose was to sleep with him."
"Thank you, Fluffy." Renee Jennings fed it another little bug, then turned her head to Henry Stark and the others and relayed the new information from Fluffy.
Sawyer frowned. "Then he must have forced Evan Shepherd."
Renee Jennings’s phone suddenly rang. The screen displayed "Sister."
She answered, and Diana Jennings’s worried voice came through the receiver. "Renee, where are you right now?"
Renee Jennings said softly, "Sis, I’m at the police station. What’s wrong?"
"I just saw a lot of people talking about you online. I’m relieved to know you’re at the police station." Diana Jennings’s tone lightened considerably.
"A lot of people are talking about me online? I’ll go take a look. Don’t worry."
"Okay, I’ll let you go then."
"Alright, Sis, I’m hanging up." Renee Jennings ended the call and, feeling puzzled, opened her streaming platform.
She glanced at her direct messages and the comments on her videos, and finally understood why Diana Jennings had been so worried.
It wasn’t that a lot of people online were talking about her, but that a lot of people were cussing her out.
It was because of what happened last night, when Freestyle Pie claimed to be Julian Nash’s girlfriend in her livestream.
Julian Nash has a huge fanbase, and many of them are quite young and tend to act impulsively.
Apparently, tired of waiting for Renee Jennings to clear their idol’s name, many of these kids lost their patience and started sending her abusive DMs, as well as posting insults and curses in the comments of her previous videos.
Renee Jennings felt pretty helpless.
’I’m not the one who smeared Julian Nash’s name, so why is everyone cussing me out?’
Seeing her staring at her phone with a frown, Henry Stark’s own brow furrowed as he asked, "What happened?"
"It’s about Freestyle Pie." Renee Jennings looked exasperated. "Julian Nash’s fans are flooding my page to cuss me out."
"Why are they cussing you out?" Sawyer was rather speechless. "They’re blaming the wrong person. It’s not like you were the one clout-chasing Julian Nash."
Kyle Morgan said sympathetically, "Renee Jennings, you’re getting unfairly blamed for this."
Sawyer had already seen the comments on Renee Jennings’s videos and said angrily, "The things they’re saying are just vile!"
Renee Jennings locked her screen, tossed her phone aside, and rested her chin lazily on her hands, her voice faint. "Out of sight, out of mind."
Meanwhile, Julian Nash, who was on a break from filming, heard about the matter and completely panicked.
He quickly snatched the phone from his assistant’s hand and posted a statement on Weibo:
[I know you all mean well, but Renee Jennings is innocent. I hope everyone can remain rational and polite and not attack an innocent person. I’m heartbroken to see so many people go and hurt Renee Jennings, and I feel so sorry for her. I’m truly sorry.]
After posting the statement, he opened WeChat and found Renee Jennings’s chat window.
Julian Nash hesitated for a few seconds, but still pressed the voice call button.
A sharp ringtone for an incoming call sounded in the conference room.
When Renee Jennings saw it was Julian Nash, a flicker of surprise crossed her delicate features.
"Julian Nash?" Sawyer caught a glimpse of her phone screen and exclaimed, "Renee Jennings, you have his WeChat!"
"We added each other by chance a while ago." After speaking, Renee Jennings swiped to answer the call and placed the phone to her ear. "Hello."
Julian Nash’s palm, clutching his phone, was damp with sweat. He began nervously, "Miss Jennings, hello. I’m calling to apologize."
Sawyer had just refreshed and seen the statement Julian Nash posted five minutes ago, and held the phone screen out for Renee Jennings to see.
She glanced at it quickly and said coolly, "I saw the statement."
"I’m truly sorry." Julian Nash was extremely embarrassed. "I didn’t expect my fans to be so impulsive."
"They are indeed very impulsive," Renee Jennings said. "If someone more fragile were treated this way, they might have a breakdown or something terrible could happen. As an idol, you have to take some responsibility for your fans’ actions."
"I’m sorry," Julian Nash said, his tone exceptionally serious. "I will definitely tell them that no matter what happens in the future, they can never act like they did today."
Renee Jennings: "I hope you mean what you say."
Julian Nash apologized to her again. "I’m very sorry for the trouble I’ve caused you."
"I’ve received your apology. Is there anything else?" Renee Jennings’s voice was flat, devoid of any emotion.
Julian Nash said quickly, "No, that’s all. Sorry to have bothered you."
"Then goodbye." Renee Jennings hung up the phone. Meeting Sawyer’s curious gaze, she frowned. "Was I too harsh?"
