Chapter 291: Chapter 291: This Is a Flagrant Breach of Discipline
The director glanced at her phone, then looked up at Diana Jennings and asked with a smile, "Zane’s Mom, is there something I can help you with?"
"Yes," Diana Jennings said with a serious expression. "Director, are you aware that Teacher Yardley has been privately accepting expensive gifts from parents?"
The smile on the director’s face froze for a moment. Then, she asked in surprise, "Zane’s Mom, you’re making quite a claim. Do you have any evidence?"
"Teacher Yardley admitted it herself just now," Diana Jennings said. "She accepted jewelry from Zoe Archer’s family."
The director subconsciously reached up to adjust the arm of her glasses and chuckled. "Zane’s Mom, the kindergarten has a strict policy forbidding teachers from accepting gifts from parents. We welcome everyone to supervise and report any violations. However, a report requires details and evidence. We will, of course, conduct a fair investigation."
Diana Jennings frowned. "So you’re saying that if I don’t have evidence, you won’t even investigate?"
She was frustrated with herself. ’Why didn’t I think to record what Teacher Yardley said just now?’
"That’s not fair to say," the director explained. "We welcome reports, but we won’t falsely accuse any of our teachers. Everything requires evidence, doesn’t it?"
Seeing Diana Jennings open her mouth as if to speak, she quickly added, "And you can rest assured, I won’t show her any favoritism just because Teacher Yardley is my niece. My attitude would be exactly the same even if you were reporting another teacher."
Diana Jennings stared at her, her bright eyes unblinking.
The director met her gaze with a calm and composed smile.
Diana Jennings pressed her lips together, her hands tightening into fists in her lap.
"Why aren’t you saying anything?" the director asked.
Diana Jennings’s expression was cold. "You’ve said your piece. What else is there for me to say?"
"Sis." Renee Jennings returned to Diana’s side with a faint smile on her lips. "I’ve already handled it."
Diana Jennings blinked and asked expectantly, "You’ve handled it?"
"That’s right," Renee Jennings said. "I contacted the Bureau of Education. They’re sending people over to investigate."
When the director heard this, her heart skipped a beat, and her eyes narrowed slightly behind her glasses.
’Contacted the Bureau of Education?’
’Do these two sisters really have that kind of pull?’
From what she understood, Diana Jennings was a single mother who worked in a company’s finance department.
’If she had powerful connections, why would her life be so bleak?’
At this thought, the flicker of panic in the director’s heart gradually subsided.
"Do you have evidence?" the director asked, feigning concern. "If you don’t have sufficient proof, they might not find anything even if the Bureau of Education sends people over."
"You don’t need to trouble yourself over that, Director," Renee Jennings said coolly, meeting her gaze with a serene smile. "I don’t make moves I’m not confident about."
The director stared at Renee’s masterful expression, and the smile on her face slowly stiffened.
"Why are you so quiet now, Director?" Renee Jennings tossed the woman’s earlier question to Diana right back at her.
The director’s lips twitched. "What evidence do you have?"
Renee Jennings pulled out a chair and sat down, her posture relaxed. "You’ll find out when the Bureau of Education arrives," she said with a smirk.
"Zane’s Aunt, let’s discuss this reasonably." The director’s pretense of impartiality vanished. "While I am Teacher Yardley’s aunt, I am, more importantly, the person in charge of this kindergarten. You came to me because you want to solve this problem, surely. There’s no need to get the Bureau of Education involved."
Renee Jennings raised an eyebrow but only smiled without saying a word.
The director frowned before forcing a placating smile. "Zane’s Aunt, can’t we talk this over?"
"No." Renee Jennings wagged her index finger, her eyes filled with scorn. "I have nothing to say to you. Save it for the Bureau of Education."
The director’s expression turned incredibly foul in an instant.
She took a deep breath and tried again. "Zane’s Aunt, did Teacher Yardley offend you earlier? I can have her come and apologize."
"Apologize?" Renee Jennings chuckled. "There’s no need."
A new note of apprehension crept into the director’s gaze as she looked at Renee.
Realizing that Renee Jennings was implacable, she turned to Diana Jennings and tried to reason with her. "Zane’s Mom, can you please talk to your sister? Zane and Jasmine are still attending this kindergarten. Making a big scene won’t be good for any of us, right?"
"You’ve hit on the key point," Renee Jennings said coolly. "Our kids won’t be attending this morally bankrupt kindergarten any longer."
The director’s heart clenched, and a deep sense of foreboding washed over her.
’Looks like I can’t protect Shannon Yardley today,’ she thought. ’My only hope is that the person sent by the Bureau of Education is someone I know.’
Renee Jennings took Diana’s hand and said softly, "Sis, don’t worry."
"Okay." Diana placed her other hand over her sister’s and nodded earnestly.
「Twenty minutes later.」
Two officials from the Bureau of Education’s Disciplinary Inspection Department arrived.
When the director saw the arrivals, her pupils contracted violently. Her face went ashen, and her nails dug into her palms.
’The leader and deputy leader of the Disciplinary Inspection Team came in person? My network of connections doesn’t extend that high up!’
"Team Leader Donovan, Deputy Leader Brooks." The director forced a calm expression and stepped forward to greet them, extending her hand. "I’m the kindergarten director, Yasmin Bell."
"Director Bell." Team Leader Donovan and Deputy Leader Brooks gave her a curt acknowledgment before striding quickly over to Renee Jennings, their faces instantly breaking into warm smiles.
"Consultant Jennings, I’ve heard so much about you. It’s a pleasure to finally meet you in person." Team Leader Donovan took the initiative and extended his hand.
Renee Jennings shook hands with the two disciplinary team leaders and smiled. "Team Leader Donovan, Leader Brooks, a pleasure to meet you. This is my sister, Diana Jennings."
The two men then greeted Diana Jennings with the same enthusiasm.
Renee Jennings said gratefully, "Thank you both so much for making a special trip out here. I really appreciate it."
"It’s no trouble at all." Team Leader Donovan, who was nearly fifty but had maintained his figure well, waved his hand with a smile. "It’s our duty."
Seeing the way the two disciplinary leaders treated the Jennings sisters, Director Bell’s heart sank even further.
’How could they possibly know people from the Disciplinary Inspection Team?’
"Team Leader Donovan, Leader Brooks, this is the evidence I’ve gathered. Please take a look." Renee Jennings played the video she had recorded earlier in Teacher Yardley’s office.
After watching the video, Team Leader Donovan’s expression turned grim. Every word he spoke was laced with fury. "The Bureau of Education has issued repeated prohibitions against teachers accepting gifts. This teacher not only took a bribe, but her attitude is this atrocious! This is a flagrant violation of explicit directives!"
Director Bell quickly interjected, "Team Leader Donovan, I only just learned of this today myself! I’ll go get the teacher right now."
She had only taken a few steps when she heard Renee Jennings’s pointed remark from behind her.
"Oh, by the way, this teacher who committed such a flagrant violation is also Director Bell’s niece. I wonder if the director herself was involved..."
Director Bell stopped dead in her tracks and frantically denied it. "I wasn’t! How could I possibly do something like that?"
"We understand the situation." Team Leader Donovan gave Renee Jennings a slight nod before turning to Director Bell with a severe expression. "As for whether you’re innocent or not, Director Bell, our disciplinary team will conduct a thorough investigation to find out!"
Director Bell was a mess of nerves and regret, her hands hanging at her sides slick with cold sweat.
