The Villainess's Heartthrob Script: I Can Talk to Animals

Chapter 382: "Brother Shawn" Is a Dangerous Person

Chapter 382: Chapter 382: "Brother Shawn" Is a Dangerous Person

The rain grew heavier again, pattering down.

Mrs. Zane held an umbrella as she knelt before her daughter. Her mouth was slightly agape, her eyes filled with shock. "Sherry... Sherry..."

Mr. Zane looked just as astonished.

Sherry Zane’s face was soaking wet, tears mingling with the rain.

She stared at Mrs. Zane, her gaze wounded. "I heard you with my own ears. You and Dad said it with such regret in your voices."

"I..." Mrs. Zane opened her mouth, wanting to explain but not knowing where to start. "Sherry, it’s not what you think."

"Then what is it?" Sherry Zane choked out. "You and Dad just wanted a son! I’m a daughter, so I’m an embarrassment to you!"

"Don’t be ridiculous!" Mrs. Zane’s voice grew agitated. "It’s not what you think at all!"

"See?" Sherry Zane was laughing and crying now. "You don’t even know how to explain it. I’m not in your hearts at all!"

"Sherry!" Mrs. Zane screamed in anguish. "It’s not like that!"

Renee Jennings didn’t listen any further. She said softly to Zachary Conway, "Kian Cole, let’s go."

"Okay," Zachary Conway nodded.

Renee Jennings didn’t get home until midnight.

She had Zachary Conway drive her car back to the station.

When Renee Jennings entered the villa, she found Glenn Zane still awake, sitting cross-legged on the living room rug, knitting a sweater.

"Zane, why are you still up?"

"Renee, you’re back—" Glenn Zane heard her return and looked up with a smile, but her expression changed when she saw how drenched Renee was. "How did you get so wet!" she exclaimed anxiously.

She put down the knitting supplies in her lap and hurried to find a dry towel to wipe her down. "You’ll catch a cold like this."

"I should be fine." As soon as Renee Jennings finished speaking, she sneezed.

Glenn Zane’s brow furrowed tightly. "You’re already sneezing! Go take a hot shower, quickly. I’ll make some ginger soup and bring it up to you."

A slight smile touched Renee Jennings’s lips. She didn’t stand on ceremony. "Okay, thank you for the trouble."

"No trouble, no trouble at all," Glenn Zane said, waving her hands quickly. "You hurry upstairs and shower. I’ll go make the ginger soup."

"Okay." Renee Jennings nodded. "Just leave it when you’re done and get some rest. I’ll come down and get it myself."

Glenn Zane watched her go upstairs before running to the kitchen.

After her shower, Renee Jennings came downstairs and saw her still in the kitchen. "Didn’t I tell you to go rest?"

"It’s fine, it’s fine," Glenn Zane said. "I’m not tired. You drink the ginger soup, and I’ll go rest after I wash the bowl."

Hearing this, a helpless look appeared on Renee Jennings’s face. "Zane, it’s after midnight. You get up so early in the morning, how can you not be tired?"

Glenn Zane gave a bashful smile. "I’m alright. I don’t need much sleep, I’m used to it."

She handed over the ginger soup. "See if it’s too hot."

"It’s perfect." Renee Jennings took a couple of sips, then said, "That’s a bad habit. From now on, you need to get at least eight hours of sleep. You have to be in your room by ten."

"I know," Glenn Zane agreed with a smile, then explained, "It’s just that you weren’t home yet tonight, so I wanted to wait for you to come back before I went to sleep."

Renee Jennings: "..."

She finished the ginger soup and said in a heartfelt tone, "So if I hadn’t come home tonight, you wouldn’t have slept at all?"

Glenn Zane pressed her lips together and didn’t answer.

Renee Jennings’s tone was serious. "You don’t need to wait for me in the future. Once you’re done cleaning up, you can go rest, or take a walk, go out for a bit, do things you enjoy."

"Okay, I get it!" Glenn Zane nodded.

**

Sherry Zane eventually fainted in the rainy night and was taken to the hospital.

After an examination, the doctor said she had fainted due to extreme mental stress, an empty stomach, and being out in the rain.

Mrs. Zane and Mr. Zane kept watch by the hospital bed, their expressions worried.

Henry Stark said calmly, "Which of you is available to step outside and talk?"

"I’ll go," Mr. Zane said, getting up to follow him out.

The door to the hospital room was closed from the outside.

Henry Stark turned to face him. "In a situation like this, you must pay more attention to your child’s mental state."

"Okay, Officer," Mr. Zane nodded. "We will."

"You may think you’re trying not to put too much pressure on her, but from her perspective, it looks like her parents don’t care about her."

"Yes, that was our oversight."

"She already jumped today. It was our department’s special criminal investigation consultant who risked her life to save her." Henry Stark took out his phone, tapped it a few times, and held the screen out to him. "See for yourself."

It was a video recorded by Zachary Conway. The scene was incredibly perilous: Renee Jennings was clinging to the railing with one hand and holding onto Sherry Zane’s ankle with the other.

The two slender figures swayed precariously in the wind and rain.

Mr. Zane never would have imagined that Sherry Zane would actually dare to jump...

Henry Stark said gravely, "If Consultant Jennings hadn’t been holding on to her so tightly, she would have fallen to her death."

Mr. Zane’s face was deathly pale, his heart filled with lingering fear. He said with a trembling voice, "Thank you so much, Consultant Jennings..."

"Have a good talk with your daughter," Henry Stark said indifferently. "Once her condition improves, we still have some questions for her."

’That "Brother Shawn" is a dangerous person.’

Henry Stark had a feeling there would be another "Sherry Zane."

**

Renee Jennings never expected to catch a cold from a rainstorm in the middle of a scorching summer.

Michelle Fuller and Sylvia Brooks arranged to visit her at home, bringing both flowers and fruit.

Renee Jennings found it amusing. "It’s not like I have some major illness. Did you two have to go to all this trouble?"

"Hey, hey, hey," Michelle Fuller feigned anger. "Don’t say such unlucky things."

"That’s right," Sylvia Brooks chimed in.

Michelle Fuller wore a serious expression. "Renee, say it again."

Renee Jennings said obediently, "Thank you for coming to see me. I’m so touched."

"You’re welcome." Michelle Fuller nodded in satisfaction, then glanced at the scar on her arm. "I brought you some scar cream. Make sure you apply it diligently. A beautiful hand like yours can’t have scars."

"Yes, ma’am," Renee Jennings said, making a saluting gesture.

Michelle Fuller and Sylvia Brooks stayed for dinner. Glenn Zane and Rhea Dempsey had prepared a table full of dishes.

Everyone ate to their heart’s content, praising the two chefs for their excellent skills.

Rhea Dempsey listened with smug satisfaction, while Glenn Zane was a bit shy.

At 9:30 PM, Michelle Fuller and Sylvia Brooks got up to leave.

Renee Jennings walked them to the main gate. As she watched their car drive off into the distance and was about to turn back to her room, the phone in her pocket suddenly rang.

She pulled out her phone, and her eyebrows raised slightly when she saw the caller ID. "Henry Stark, so late. Is there a mission?"

"Yes," Henry Stark’s voice was grave. "How are you feeling physically?"

"Pretty good," Renee Jennings said. "Do you need me to come over now?"

"Yes. I’m sending someone to pick you up."

"Don’t trouble yourself, I can drive."

"They’re already on their way. They’ll call you when they arrive."

Hearing this, Renee Jennings didn’t refuse again. "Alright."

About ten minutes later, Sawyer’s call came through. "Renee, we’re at the gate. You can come out."

"Okay." Renee Jennings had been sitting on the porch swing in the courtyard. She got up as soon as she received the call and walked out quickly.
