Chapter 412: Chapter 412: Arousing Jaden Forrest’s Suspicion
"What?"
This time, the brother and sister duo stared at Renee with wide, shocked eyes.
Sean Fuller asked hesitantly, "Renee, are you serious?"
Michelle Fuller added, "Does it have to be this intense?"
Renee’s lips curved into a smile. "Yes, I’m very serious. And it should be very intense."
Of course, when she said "get a room," she didn’t mean it in the literal sense.
Since Dora Archer was trying to set a trap for Yuri Sullivan, Renee would just turn the tables on her. However, she still needed to discuss the specific details with Henry Stark and the others.
After parting ways with Michelle Fuller and her brother, Renee returned to Eastgate Villa at eight-thirty in the evening.
As soon as she stepped into the courtyard, Blueberry ran up to her. "Renee, you’re finally back!"
"What’s wrong?" Renee asked softly, scooping it into her arms. "Did you need me for something?"
"It’s Pippi!" Blueberry told her. "Pippi isn’t doing so well."
As soon as she heard that, a worried expression clouded Renee’s delicate features. "What’s wrong with Pippi?"
She was already hurrying toward the doghouse as she spoke, still holding Blueberry.
"Pippi?" she called out softly.
The other dogs were all playing, but Pippi was lying in his doghouse, eyelids drooping, looking completely listless.
He finally reacted when he saw Renee. "Renee..."
"Pippi." Renee crouched in front of his doghouse and stroked his head, asking with concern, "What’s wrong? Are you not feeling well?"
Pippi said in a low voice, "Renee, I miss my big sister."
He’d realized that if he didn’t say he missed Stella, Stella wouldn’t come to see him.
Pippi asked dejectedly, "Renee, do you think my sister has forgotten about me?"
"Of course not," Renee comforted him. "You’re Stella’s best friend. How could she possibly forget you? She’s probably just been really busy lately. I’ll ask her for you, okay?"
"Okay," Pippi nodded.
Renee took out her phone and sent Stella a WeChat message: [Stella, have you been busy lately? Pippi misses you.]
After waiting for about ten minutes, there was still no reply from Stella.
Renee thought for a moment and sent Stella a video call request.
"Stella didn’t pick up." Meeting Pippi’s disappointed gaze, Renee reached out and stroked his head again. "You be good, now. Stella would never forget you. I’ll let you know as soon as she messages back, okay, Pippi?"
Pippi mumbled a gloomy, "I know."
"Good boy." Renee gave him a couple of pats before getting up to leave.
Inside the villa, the two little ones immediately greeted her.
"Auntie’s back!"
"Auntie, I missed you!"
Renee immediately handed over small gifts. "Auntie missed you too! I bought you some little toys. See if you like them."
After that, she noticed Diana Jennings wasn’t on the first floor. "Where’s my sister?"
"She’s upstairs," Rhea Dempsey said with a frown. "She seemed completely out of it during dinner, like something was on her mind. I asked what was wrong, but she wouldn’t say. You should go up and ask her."
"Alright, I’ll go see." Renee went up to the second floor and knocked on Diana Jennings’s door, but it was silent inside. There wasn’t the slightest response.
She thought for a moment, then took out her phone and sent Diana a WeChat message: [Sis, are you asleep?]
After waiting a few minutes with no reply, Renee decided to go back to her own room and take a shower first.
When she came out of the shower, she saw that both Diana and Stella had replied.
Diana: [Renee, I’m not asleep yet.]
Stella: [I’m so sorry, Renee. I’ve been so busy lately. My roommate keeps asking me to cover her shifts... I know that’s not an excuse. I really haven’t been paying enough attention to Pippi, and I’ve caused you so much trouble. I’m truly sorry. I want to earn enough money to rent my own place so I can bring Pippi back.]
Renee hesitated for a few seconds, then opened her door and went downstairs.
Seeing her in her pajamas, Rhea Dempsey asked, "You haven’t talked to your sister yet?"
"No," Renee explained. "I’ll go to her in a bit. I need to go see Pippi first."
The little guy wasn’t doing well; she had to cheer him up first.
Under the night sky, Pippi was lying in his doghouse in the exact same position as before, his eyes staring blankly in a certain direction.
"Pippi."
Renee’s voice instantly brought the listless Pippi back to life. "Renee, did my sister reply to you?"
"She did," Renee said, softening her tone. "Stella is working hard to save money so she can rent a place and bring you home sooner."
"Really?" At these words, Pippi’s dark eyes instantly brightened. "Stella hasn’t forgotten me! That’s great!"
"Of course Stella wouldn’t forget you." Renee smiled and quickly typed a few words to send to Stella.
After getting a confirmation, she sent a video call request.
The call was answered almost immediately. Stella was sitting at a desk in her dorm room, her smile bright. "Good evening, Renee."
"Good evening, Stella." After greeting her, Renee turned the camera over to Pippi. "Pippi misses you a lot."
Seeing the familiar little dog on the screen, Stella’s eyes reddened slightly, her heart filled with emotion. "Pippi, I miss you so, so much too. Thank you for always thinking of me."
Pippi barked, "Big Sister, I think about you every day! Don’t you forget to think about Pippi, either!"
"I know!" Stella promised solemnly. "I’ll think of you every day, too."
Just then, a roommate’s teasing voice came from behind her. "Stella, who are you missing? Did you fall in love, just like Rui?"
"No!" Stella shook her head and explained, "It’s my dog, Pippi."
"Oh, I see!" The roommate said, then changed the subject. "By the way, any idea if Rui is coming back tonight?"
Stella shook her head again. "I don’t know either."
She had been covering shifts for this very roommate, Rui, recently.
The same roommate complained again, "Rui is so frustrating. She completely ditches her friends for a guy. I’ve messaged her these past two days, and she hasn’t even replied."
Since Stella was on a video call with Pippi, she didn’t respond to her roommate.
The other girl, knowing she was busy, just grabbed her pajamas and went into the bathroom to shower.
After Pippi and Stella had been on the video call for about ten minutes, Renee went upstairs and knocked on Diana’s door again.
This time, the door opened from the inside. The room was shrouded in darkness.
Seeing this, Renee instinctively felt something was wrong. "Sis, why don’t you have the lights on?"
"Renee." When Diana spoke, her voice trembled slightly. "I think that man has found me."
That man...
Renee immediately understood. "Jaden Forrest?"
"Yes!" Diana nodded emphatically.
Renee frowned. "Let’s talk inside."
The two sisters sat cross-legged on the balcony, looking up at the moon, which was half-hidden by dark clouds.
After listening to Diana’s story, Renee’s expression grew grim. "He acquired your company and then demanded you become his assistant. Your suspicion must be correct."
That one chance encounter last time had actually made Jaden Forrest suspicious.
"Renee, what should I do?" Diana asked, conflicted and anxious. "If I quit, do you think he’ll still be able to find me?"
Renee pressed her lips together and answered honestly, "Yes."
