Chapter 447: Chapter 447: The Red Orangutan is Ostracized
On Saturday, Renee Jennings slept in until she woke up naturally.
’I still have a mission to complete.’ After lunch, she played with her furry kids for a while before heading up to the study on the second floor to start her stream.
She didn’t know who the impending tragedy would befall, so she could only go live and try her luck.
The moment she went live, viewers started teasing her in the comments.
[Whoa, I can’t believe the streamer is live at this hour. I thought I was seeing things.]
[Wow, she just streamed the day before yesterday, and she’s live again today! This is bliss~]
[My go-to comfort show is here!]
Renee Jennings casually put her long hair up with a claw clip, the corners of her lips turning up slightly. "Did you guys miss me?"
[Yes, yes, yes! Every single day!]
[SOB, I missed the stream the day before yesterday! I finally caught you today. Thank goodness I didn’t give up!]
[Streamer, streamer! You there? Can you see me?]
[Streamer, we need your help!!!]
[Streamer, I sent you a DM. Did you see it?]
A viewer with the ID "Caelus Wildlife Park Hilary" caught Renee Jennings’s attention.
Caelus Wildlife Park was a privately-owned zoo in Lyris. It was quite popular online, and Renee Jennings would sometimes stumble upon its videos.
The videos of the little animals being led home from "work" by their keepers were really cute.
Renee Jennings had a pretty good impression of Caelus Wildlife Park. Seeing the comment, she asked softly, "Hilary, I haven’t checked my DMs yet. What did you need me for?"
[Streamer! There’s something urgent I need your help with!]
[Please, please! Can you add me to a call? It’s hard to explain clearly in the comments.]
Renee Jennings nodded. "Okay, send a request to join the call."
[Streamer, I sent the request!]
Renee Jennings found the user in the call request list and clicked to connect.
The screen instantly split in two. A short-haired girl in a Caelus Wildlife Park uniform appeared in the split-screen.
"Hello, Streamer. I’m Hilary, a staff member at Caelus Wildlife Park." Hilary was outdoors, and the bangs on her forehead were already damp with sweat. "I’m in charge of caring for the orangutans."
[Wow, it’s actually Hilary!]
[You must be so hot, Hilary! It must be tough having to work outdoors in this weather!]
[Hilary, make sure to use sunscreen.]
"Thank you all for your concern." Hilary’s practiced smile appeared for two seconds and then vanished.
"Hilary, what’s the urgent matter you mentioned?" Renee asked.
Hilary pursed her lips, her expression turning worried. "Well, Streamer, the orangutan I care for, Bonnie, has been acting strangely lately."
Hearing this, a serious expression settled on Renee Jennings’s delicate features. "Strange in what way?"
"She’s not eating with the others," Hilary explained. "She’s always by herself, and she’s not as enthusiastic with visitors as she used to be. She’s normally very lively."
Hilary sighed. "We thought Bonnie wasn’t feeling well, but we ran a series of tests, and they all showed that Bonnie is perfectly healthy."
[If there’s nothing wrong with her physically, then it must be psychological.]
[No wonder Bonnie seemed a little off when I visited the zoo yesterday. So she’s sick, huh?]
[Hilary, you’re so smart for coming to the streamer for help.]
[I have a feeling that once the streamer takes action, Bonnie will be fine in no time~~~]
"Please don’t say that, everyone," Renee Jennings replied softly to the comments. "I’m not as amazing as you all say. A lot of the time, I’m just lucky."
[I don’t care! You ARE that amazing!]
[Streamer, in my eyes, you can do anything! You’re my god, my goddess.]
Renee Jennings was instantly both amused and exasperated. She pulled the topic back to Bonnie. "Hilary, where is Bonnie now?"
She used points to redeem an item from the system’s shop: a language tool that would let her communicate with orangutans.
"She’s spacing out in a tree." Hilary flipped her camera, aiming it at Bonnie in the distance. "She’s over there."
In the camera’s view, Bonnie the orangutan cut a particularly lonely figure.
"Is Bonnie a boy or a girl?" Renee asked.
Hilary: "Bonnie is a girl."
Renee Jennings nodded. "Okay, Hilary. Take some tasty treats over to Bonnie. I’ll try to communicate with her."
"Okay!" Hilary grabbed two dates and walked over. "Bonnie, what are you doing?"
Bonnie heard her voice and glanced back at her, then turned her head away again without any reaction.
Hilary’s heart ached a little. She said in a low voice, "Before, whenever Bonnie saw me, she’d come over to touch me and nuzzle against me. Seeing her like this is just heartbreaking."
[Get well soon, Bonnie!]
[Seeing Bonnie like this makes me so sad, too.]
"Bonnie, what’s wrong with you?" Hilary murmured in a low voice.
"Hilary, give the dates to Bonnie and see how she reacts."
"Okay," Hilary agreed, holding the dates out to Bonnie. "Bonnie, time for a treat!"
Bonnie didn’t react.
"Bonnie!" Hilary pressed the dates into her hand. "Eat the dates!"
Bonnie looked down at the dates but just held them in her hand.
"Why aren’t you eating?" Hilary watched her worriedly. "Bonnie, please don’t be like this, okay?"
Hearing Hilary’s words, Bonnie’s gaze shifted. She turned to look at her, her mouth opening and closing as she spoke.
"Sigh, I’m in a really bad mood."
Hearing this, Renee Jennings spoke in a gentle voice, "Bonnie, why are you in a bad mood?"
Bonnie froze, looking towards the source of the voice. "Who? Who can understand me?"
"Over here," Renee said. "Bonnie, I’m inside Hilary’s phone."
’Hilary’s phone...’
Bonnie blinked her big, round eyes, staring curiously at Hilary’s phone.
"Hilary, give the phone to Bonnie," Renee Jennings said.
"Okay." Hilary quickly handed the phone to Bonnie. "Bonnie, look at the lady on the screen and tell her what’s wrong."
Bonnie took the phone and looked at Renee Jennings in confusion. "You can understand what I’m saying?"
"Yes, I can." Renee Jennings smiled slightly. "Bonnie, why are you in a bad mood?"
Bonnie looked sorrowful. "I feel terrible."
"What happened?" Renee asked.
Bonnie said, aggrieved, "They’re all bullying me."
"Who’s bullying you?"
"Sasha and Layla."
Renee Jennings frowned. "Hilary, who are Sasha and Layla?"
Hearing this, Hilary explained, "They’re also orangutans. They usually play with Bonnie."
"I see." Renee then asked Bonnie, "How are Sasha and Layla bullying you?"
"They won’t play with me, and they’re always making fun of me." Bonnie looked wronged. "They keep saying I’m ugly."
"Is that why you haven’t been eating with everyone lately?"
"It’s not just that. Every time we eat, they steal my food, and they’re always calling me names!" Bonnie grew more upset as she spoke. "SOB, I didn’t even do anything wrong, why are they all bullying me?"
Hearing Bonnie’s story, Renee Jennings felt that she was being ostracized and isolated by the other orangutans. "Bonnie, can you take me to see Sasha and Layla now?"
