Chapter 458: Chapter 458: Are You Trying to Get Her Killed?
Renee Jennings received the address from Kapok Blossom in a private message. Just as she was sending it to Henry Stark on WeChat, Jessica’s scream suddenly erupted from the livestream.
"AHH—"
"Wade Garrison, don’t touch me!"
Renee Jennings’s brow furrowed sharply. The viewers in the livestream grew tense as well.
[What’s going on right now? This feels terrifying.]
[That psycho has been trying to make Jessica go home with him, and she’s refusing. I bet he’s about to get violent.]
[I can’t imagine what kind of life Jessica would have had if she hadn’t managed to connect to the stream.]
"Don’t any of you touch me!" Jessica’s voice trembled slightly, her pitch rising higher and higher. "Wade Garrison, let go of me! I want a divorce!"
Wade Garrison stared at her, his face dark. He tightened his grip on her wrist, his tone dripping with menace. "Honey, are you sure you want to break my heart like this?"
"Let me go!" Jessica winced in pain, prying at his fingers with all her might to break free. "Stop talking! I have nothing to say to you!"
"Jessica," Wade Garrison said through gritted teeth. "I’ll give you one more chance. Are you dead set on a divorce?"
"Yes!" Jessica’s tone was firm.
Wade Garrison was so furious he laughed. "Honey, you’ll regret this!"
His anger finally boiled over. Dropping all pretense, he began to drag her forcefully into the courtyard.
Jessica had never seen this side of him before. She screamed in terror, "AHH— Let go of me! Help! Streamer, save me!"
Renee Jennings immediately raised her voice, speaking in a cold, sharp tone. "Wade Garrison, stop right now!"
Wade Garrison didn’t hear Renee Jennings’s voice. He had already dragged Jessica to the threshold of the courtyard.
The hand Jessica used to clutch her phone desperately gripped the stone door jamb. She cried out in panic, "Streamer, save me! Save me..."
Mrs. Garrison stepped forward to help her son, prying Jessica’s fingers open one by one. "You worthless hussy! Your parents didn’t raise you right, so today, the Garrison family will teach you a lesson for them!"
A few gossipy women chimed in from the side.
"That’s right! These city girls are just asking for a lesson!"
"She should’ve been dealt with ages ago. Look at that gloomy, miserable face she’s had the past two days. She can’t even crack a smile for anyone..."
"Wait a minute." Wade Garrison seemed to realize something was wrong. His eyes scrutinized Jessica. "Who are you asking to save you?"
"Wade Garrison." Renee Jennings’s clear, resonant voice came from Jessica’s phone. "You’d better let Jessica go right now!"
Wade Garrison’s expression changed slightly. His gaze fell on the phone, his brow tightening. "Who are you talking to?"
"The streamer! Save me!" Jessica cried for help.
Wade Garrison grabbed her by the collar in irritation. "Jessica Young, are you deaf? I asked you a question!"
"It’s the streamer!" Jessica said, her voice trembling. "I’m connected to her stream..."
"When did you connect?" Wade Garrison asked.
"Half an hour ago..."
Renee Jennings spoke up again, her voice a clear warning: "Wade Garrison, Jessica wants to divorce you. Please cooperate with her. There are two hundred thirty thousand viewers in the livestream right now. Everyone is witnessing your every word and action. You’d be wise not to harm Jessica."
Wade Garrison sneered and patted Jessica’s tear-streaked face. "Jessica Young, you’ve got a lot of nerve."
The moment he finished speaking, his expression turned savage. He snatched Jessica’s phone, smashed it violently on the ground, and stomped on it several times for good measure.
Jessica said in disbelief, "Wade Garrison, what gives you the right to smash my phone?"
The connection was forcibly cut. Seeing the split-screen avatar suddenly disappear, the viewers in the livestream were overcome with worry.
[It’s over! Is something going to happen to Jessica?]
[Is that psycho going to start hurting Jessica?]
[What do we do, what do we do? I’m so worried, AHHH!]
But some people started blaming Renee Jennings for speaking up.
[Are you crazy, streamer? Are you trying to get her killed?]
[Why did you have to say something? Now we can’t even hear anything. I can’t believe this.]
[Seriously speechless. Why did you have to speak up all of a sudden?]
[...]
Renee Jennings glanced at the live comments and used her backup phone to call Henry Stark. "What’s the status?"
On the other end of the line, Henry Stark’s voice was serious. "It’s all arranged. Just got word, they’ve reached the village entrance."
"Good. Talk to you later." Renee Jennings hung up and noticed the comments section had erupted into an argument.
Seeing trolls attacking her, many viewers enthusiastically defended her and fired back at them.
Renee Jennings said softly, "Everyone, don’t waste your time on those trolls. It’s not worth it."
[Okay, we’ll listen to Renee! Let’s ignore them!]
[Is there a mod? Kick the trolls out.]
[These trolls must have underdeveloped cerebellums.]
[Streamer, what about Jessica? Are we just going to leave it like this?]
[Did Kapok Blossom send the address? Can we call the police for Jessica?]
Renee Jennings didn’t answer these questions. She was worried Wade Garrison might join the livestream.
Her decision to speak up earlier was actually Henry Stark’s idea. It was to let Wade Garrison know that everyone was watching him. If he had any sense, he wouldn’t dare to truly harm Jessica.
And that was indeed the case.
As furious as Wade Garrison was, Renee Jennings’s words held him back. He only dared to slap Jessica and kick her a few times, not do anything more serious.
Jessica sat slumped on the blue flagstones of the courtyard. Her cheeks stung, and waves of aching pain pulsed through her body.
She whimpered softly, filled with endless regret.
Biscuit sat beside her, its round dog eyes filled with worry and unease.
’Is the new bride going to be beaten to death?’
’Sigh... The new bride has it so rough.’
Mrs. Garrison saw the anxiety on her son’s face and couldn’t help but ask, "Wade, is this serious?"
Wade Garrison’s brow was knitted tightly, and he said nothing.
He wasn’t sure if what that streamer had said was true. ’Does her livestream really have that many viewers?’
After a moment of thought, Wade Garrison walked back into the courtyard and asked Jessica, "What’s the name of that streamer you connected with?"
"What are you going to do?" Jessica looked at him in terror.
Hearing this, Wade Garrison slapped her right across the face. "I ask, you answer. Why the useless chatter?" he snapped, annoyed.
Tears instantly streamed down Jessica’s face. "Wade Garrison, how could you treat me like this?"
"Who is that streamer?"
"I’m not telling you!"
"It looks like you’re asking for another beating!" Just as Wade Garrison raised his hand again, a knock suddenly sounded from outside the courtyard gate.
"Who is it?" Mrs. Garrison asked.
The person outside replied, "I’m looking for Wade Garrison."
"Wade, it’s a friend of yours," Mrs. Garrison said. "Should I open the gate?"
Wade Garrison found it strange. The voice sounded unfamiliar. He called through the gate, "What’s your name?"
"Open the gate first."
"Tell me your name first."
The person outside fell silent.
A sense of unease crept into Wade Garrison’s heart. He glared sinisterly at Jessica and asked in a low voice, "Did you send the address here to anyone?"
Jessica: "No."
Wade Garrison lunged and grabbed her by the throat. "Did you or didn’t you?" he roared, his fury uncontrollable.
The feeling of suffocation instantly contorted Jessica’s face in pain. She could only struggle to answer, "I... didn’t!"
