Chapter 559: Chapter 559: Fanny Stole Her Darling Husband
Faye Wyatt froze for a moment, her voice laced with obvious shock. "Renee, you... How could you know about this?"
"I just happened to hear about it today," Renee Jennings said softly. "Faye, I also heard another big secret."
"What big secret?" Faye Wyatt asked reflexively.
The corners of Renee Jennings’s lips curved up. "I’ll tell you in person," she said with a smile. "I was hoping you could help me set up a meeting with Aria Sinclair and Vincent Morgan. I have something to say to them."
Zachary Morgan gave Zoe Morgan a week to confess, so she was going to let Aria Sinclair know the truth ahead of schedule.
It was also a perfect chance to test her intuition.
"Are you sure you want to see them?" Faye Wyatt seemed surprised by her decision.
"Yes, the sooner the better."
"Okay, I’ll arrange it."
"Thanks, Faye."
"Don’t be so formal. No more ’thank yous’ between us."
"Alright~"
After hanging up, Renee Jennings suddenly felt an inexplicable excitement bubbling up inside her.
If she hadn’t already announced she’d be streaming today, she would have called Michelle Fuller right then to go out and gossip about it.
Renee Jennings had to suppress her restless energy for the time being. She quickly tidied her hair, sat back down in front of her phone, and started the livestream.
"Hey~ Good morning~"
Perhaps because she had announced it in advance, viewers flooded into the stream much faster than when she usually went live spontaneously. Within the space of a few sentences, there were already over twenty thousand people watching.
[Morning, streamer~]
[Ms. Jennings is right on time!]
[You said you’d be live at eleven today, so I got up early and ordered takeout just to wait for you~]
[Aaaah, sis, me too! Renee’s stream is the perfect show to have on while I eat!]
Renee Jennings’s lips curved into a smile. "Sorry to keep you all waiting," she said cheerfully. "Let’s get right to the call-ins. Get ready~"
She tapped the random call-in button. A user named "Fanny" successfully connected.
A middle-aged woman’s face appeared on the split screen. She had her hair in a low ponytail and a rounded nose. Her smile gave off an honest and simple-hearted impression.
"Hello, Fanny," Renee Jennings greeted with a smile.
Fanny seemed nervous and flustered. She pressed her lips together before speaking. "M-Ms. Jennings... h-hello."
"Fanny, is there anything I can help you with?" Renee Jennings asked in a gentle voice.
"I... I heard from a friend that you... you can understand animals," Fanny stumbled over her words. "So, I... I was hoping you could he-help."
[Is Fanny that nervous? She can’t even get a full sentence out.]
[Yeah, I wonder if I’ll start stuttering too if I ever get to call in.]
[I don’t know, I get the feeling it’s not because she’s nervous...]
Fanny saw the comments and explained, "I... I have a st-stutter."
"That’s alright," Renee Jennings said, slowing her own speech. "Fanny, whatever you need help with, you can take your time and tell me."
"Okay." Fanny nodded, clearly relaxing a bit at Renee Jennings’s words. "I’m a na-nanny, the... the live-out kind. I’m at my em-employer’s house right now."
[Isn’t it a bad idea to be on a livestream at your employer’s house?]
[Don’t be so quick to judge. Renee doesn’t stream every day, and it’s not easy to get through on her call-in. Of course she’d seize any chance she gets.]
[Yeah, yeah, as long as she doesn’t reveal any of the employer’s private information, it should be fine.]
"No, no, I won’t," Fanny said, quickly waving her hands. One of her hands was still wearing a glove.
Renee Jennings said softly, "Then please continue, Fanny."
"Okay." Fanny took off her other glove. "It’s like this... I... I feel like my em-employer is very, very dis-dissatisfied with me. B-but when I try to qu-quit, she... she won’t let me."
"And then?"
"I was hoping... hoping Ms. Jennings could help me ask... the little dog." As she spoke, Fanny flipped her camera to show a Shiba Inu on the rug. "Ms. Jennings, please help me ask the dog what my em-employer is... is unhappy about, so I can... change it. I asked my em-employer, but she... she won’t tell me."
[My nanny could learn a thing or two from Fanny’s work ethic.]
[Yeah, it’s pretty rare. Most nannies would just think the employer is too picky instead of reflecting on their own work.]
Renee Jennings didn’t rush to question the Shiba Inu. Instead, she first asked Fanny, "Why do you think your employer is so dissatisfied with you?"
"She... she complains about ev-everything I do," Fanny said with a troubled expression. "I cook a meal for her, but she... she won’t eat it. She throws it in the... the trash and makes me c-cook all over again."
"I see." Renee Jennings nodded. "That does sound difficult."
"The... the floor, she won’t let me use a... a mop to clean it."
"Then what are you supposed to use?"
"This." Fanny held up a rag.
Renee Jennings’s brow furrowed slightly. She asked, "She won’t let you use a mop, so you have to squat on the floor and wipe it bit by bit with this rag?"
"Yes." Fanny nodded emphatically. "She said mo-mopping doesn’t get it clean enough. That I have to... wipe it with this."
"That’s not just being difficult, that’s deliberately tormenting someone." Renee Jennings’s voice grew serious. "You said you tried to quit, but she wouldn’t let you, is that right?"
"Yes," Fanny said. "She... she withholds my... my wages."
[Damn, what century is this? Who makes someone scrub the floor with a rag?]
[I’m speechless. How much is this employer even paying Fanny?]
Fanny: "The salary is sent... to my husband’s c-card."
"Why is your salary sent to your husband’s card?" Renee Jennings found this strange, a flicker of confusion in her eyes.
Fanny explained, "This jo-job... my hus-husband found it for me."
"Your husband found the job for you?" Renee Jennings was even more surprised. "Why did your husband have to find a job for you?"
[Right? Other jobs might be hard to find, but it’s not hard to find work as a nanny, is it?]
[How can the salary be sent to your husband’s card? You work so hard for that money, don’t you get to spend any of it yourself?]
"My husband says... I’m stupid and... easily sc-scammed." Fanny gave a shy smile. "So he doesn’t let me... manage money."
"I understand." Renee Jennings subconsciously felt this job was more complicated than it seemed. She said softly, "What’s the little dog’s name? And your employer, what do you call her?"
"The dog’s name is... Leo," Fanny replied. "My em-employer is... Miss Donovan."
"Okay, I’m going to talk with Leo now."
Fanny switched her phone camera back to the front-facing view, walked over to Leo, and crouched down, holding the phone so the dog was facing the screen.
Seeing this, Leo stared at the screen with his big, round eyes, curious. "Woof? What’s going on here?"
Renee Jennings chuckled softly and said slowly, "Hello, Leo. Are you hungry?"
"Woof?" Leo’s interest was piqued. "If I’m hungry, are you going to feed me?"
"I can," Renee Jennings said with a grin. "If you’re hungry, I’ll feed you."
"WOOF WOOF WOOF!" Leo’s tongue lolled out in anticipation. "How are you gonna feed me through the phone?"
"That’s easy. I’ll have Fanny feed you for me."
"Woof~ Okay, fine~"
"By the way, Leo, does your owner, Miss Donovan, not like Fanny?"
"WOOF WOOF WOOF! It’s not that she doesn’t like Fanny, she hates Fanny! Because Fanny stole her darling husband!"
