Roadmap to the Boundless Sky

Book 3 Chapter 375: Application

Book 3, Chapter 375: Application

Chen Chuan stared at the surging waves while standing in front of where Ferris Wheel once resided. The ruins of the building had been demolished and removed over the past few days.

Since the building and Ferris wheel were gone, there was nothing blocking his sight, and he could see the sea and sky in the distance more clearly.

He had to do quite a lot of things over his three-month holiday.

First, he needed to go back to Yangzhi City and meet Wen Tong.

Yesterday, he had called Nian Fuli and learned that Wen Tong was still in the Constabulary. So, when he went back, he could ask for some details.

Also, he looked into how to get a teaching license.

Usually, there were two paths. If his marks were high enough while he was a student, he could go through internal channels and apply to become a teaching assistant first. Then, as he continued getting experience, he could get promoted to a lecturer. This process differed from person to person. The fast ones could get promoted between three to five years, while the slow ones took from five to ten years.

The other path was to get hired on a special basis. The student needed to be incredibly outstanding for this. After applying for it, one would just need to pass a test to get hired.

However, a referrer was required for this, and it was best that it was a lecturer. It could also be directors from relevant government departments or companies.

Chen Chuan could approach several lecturers he was familiar with. It would also be easy for him to get directors to help him. He could either approach Wu Quan or Cheng Shang. If worse came to worst, Chen Chuan could be his own referrer.

His main goal for applying to become a lecturer wasn’t to teach, but to get benefits he couldn’t get outside the university’s platform. Setting everything else aside, having Hongfu as a sparring partner was already worth it for him to get the teaching license.

He had also learned from inside information that many of the senior officers in the Resolution Department had teaching licenses in the university. They all spent a certain amount of time teaching at Martial Valor University every year.

It was almost the end of the semester and a review process was required for all applications on a special basis, so Chen Chuan decided to submit his application over the next few days. If he could take the test before leaving, he would prefer to do it right away. If he couldn’t, then he would deal with it after coming back.

Someone called him just then, and Safe Shield spoke up. “Detected a signal from the Elephant Gang of Glowing Dew District. It does not use a domain tapping device or monitoring device. Should I block the call for you, Lead Investigator Chen?”

“No need. Connect the call,” Chen Chuan answered.

Once the call went through, he heard a pleasant voice of a woman. “Captain Chen, is that you? I’m Deng Xin.”

“How can I help you, Miss Deng?” Chen Chuan asked.

“I’m sorry for bothering you, Captain Chen, but I heard that you took down Ferris Wheel, so I called you today to thank you.”

“You don’t have to thank me. Ferris Wheel’s actions have always made it clear that it won’t go far,” Chen Chuan said.

“No matter what, I still want to thank you. Over the years, I’ve hidden myself and refused to go anywhere, but now, I can go where I want. I finally feel like I can stand under the sun...” Deng Xin said gratefully, and she sounded choked up.

When Chen Chuan cut down the Ferris wheel, she felt as if a weight had been removed from her shoulders. Ever since she ran away from Ferris Wheel, she had never felt as relaxed as at that moment.

After a moment, Deng Xin calmed down and said apologetically, “I’m sorry for saying so much and wasting your time. I just want to say that I can’t help you with much, but I can predict danger. If you ever need my help, please tell me.”

Chen Chuan could hear the sincerity in her voice, so he agreed to it and looked around. The rain had come to a stop, and a sliver of sunlight pierced through the cracks between the dark clouds above the sea. “Live your life well, Miss Deng. We’ll meet again if it’s meant to be.”

He turned around. The motorcade and armed security guards were waiting for him. When they saw him walk over, one of them opened the limousine door for him. Once he sat inside, he said, “Go back to Martial Order District.”

The cars moved, and they went back to his house. When they arrived, he didn’t bring them into his courtyard. Instead, he got out of his limousine and gave some orders. Yu Xiao saluted him and waited outside. Meanwhile, a logistician helped him carry four small boxes inside.

The moment Chen Chuan stepped into the courtyard, Yuan Qiuyuan, Qin Qingque, and Su Wei walked out of the house. They had been resting here ever since the Fu-Mu Entity finished propagating and were waiting for further orders. When they saw him, they saluted him. “Captain!”

Chen Chuan returned their salute.

Then, with curious eyes, Yuan Qiuyuan stared at the logistician behind him, then at the motorcade outside. “Who are they, Captain?”

“The Resolution Department just promoted me to a lead investigator. The announcement should arrive soon. The armored motorcade outside is in charge of my safety.”

“You got promoted again?” Yuan Qiuyuan’s eyes flew wide open.

Chen Chuan nodded.

“You really get promoted fast!” Yuan Qiuyuan remarked excitedly.

This was a good thing. It meant that they could get stronger as well. Just then, he thought of something.

“Wait. If you got promoted, would the higher-ups make us work under a new squad captain?”

Qin Qingque and Su Wei turned to Chen Chuan as well. They had enjoyed working with him and didn’t want to work under another squad captain.

“If you want to, you can still work with me,” Chen Chuan offered.

“I want to,” Qin Qingque said with all seriousness.

“There’s no need to even discuss this. We’re not going to listen to anyone else aside from you,” Yuan Qiuyuan declared.

“Good. It’s settled then,” Chen Chuan said before turning to Qin Qingque.

“Please book a private room in Across The World. I said that I’d treat you all to a meal before this. Since we’re all here today, let’s have that meal.”

“Roger!”

Chen Chuan then said to Yuan Qiuyuan, “Please notify Mr. Sancheng for me. If he’s free, he should join us as well.”

“Sure. I’ll tell him.”

Half an hour later, they arrived at Across The World. Sancheng Huang was already there. He was standing tall with a hand on his saber.

When he saw them, he bowed to Chen Chuan. “Mr. Chen.”

Then, he gave a polite nod to Yuan Qiuyuan and the others.

Chen Chuan returned the greeting before bringing the four of them to the private room they had booked. Once they settled down, he said to Sancheng Huang, “Thank you for helping us, Mr. Sancheng.”

Sancheng Huang didn’t dare to claim any credit. “Even without me around, you wouldn’t have had any trouble dealing with Gongying Changxiu and his junior brothers. What I did was just to offer help to a group of people bound to win.”

“But it takes courage to step forward during a crucial moment. I’m sure it wasn’t easy. I saw your sincerity. That’s why I’d like to invite you to join my team. Would you be interested?” Chen Chuan asked.

“Could I?” Sancheng Huang whipped his head up.

“Your status was originally a bit of a problem, but that’s in the past. Now that Ferris Wheel is destroyed, it doesn’t matter anymore,” Chen Chuan explained.

The Great Shun Republic had always declared to the public that the islanders were part of the Great Shun Republic, even if it didn’t reflect reality. They only said it to cut down on the costs of governing and maintaining the island nations. It was impossible for the government to really treat them as the same.

But Sancheng Huang was a Third Limit martial artist. If he was willing to join the Great Shun Republic, the country would welcome him with open arms. They might have been worried about this motivation when Ferris Wheel was around, but that was no longer a problem.

Sancheng Huang bowed and said earnestly, “Thank you for the offer. I’m really grateful and am willing to join you!”

Chen Chuan nodded. Then, he took out four boxes and pushed them to his team.

“This is the reward from the higher-ups for successfully completing the operation. Aside from monetary rewards, they also gave us special medicine.”

One of the boxes went to Sancheng Huang. “I applied for a reward for you too, Mr. Sancheng,” Chen Chuan said.

“I’m getting some, too?”

Sancheng Huang was shocked.

“You worked with us, so I put you in as a mercenary-for-hire when I applied for the reward. Besides, didn’t you just agree to join my team? It’s only right for you to get rewarded,” Chen Chuan said with a smile.

Sancheng Huang was silent for a while, then slowly stood up. With his fists clenched and hanging by his sides, he bowed deeply to Chen Chuan. “I’m truly thankful for this, Mr. Chen. I do need special medicine, so I won’t be saying no to this.”

Chen Chuan nodded at that. He had always admired Sancheng Huang for never putting on airs. He was able to humble himself when necessary.

Then, Chen Chuan turned to Yuan Qiuyuan, Qin Qingque, and Su Wei. “I’ll be going on a three-month-long break now since I have some things to do. You can carry out some missions in the merged space while waiting for me to come back.”

Yuan Qiuyuan was the first to respond. “Sure! We’ll do as you said, but you need to come back soon, Captain. Without you around, it’s hard to stay motivated.”

The others nodded.

Chen Chuan laughed at that. “Alright. Let’s eat.”

Lunch lasted until a little after 2 p.m.. After Chen Chuan parted ways with his team, he had the motorcade send him to Photon Nest.

Zhuang Ke had said that Dawncall needed to be observed for anywhere from two to three months. If its mutated cells didn’t enter a slump, they would be in the green. Judging by the date, it was time to check up on Dawncall.

Chen Chuan had given a heads-up that he was coming, so the moment the motorcade stopped and he went into the lobby, Zhuang Ke came to meet him. They exchanged a few pleasantries in a friendly manner before Zhuang Ke said, “We’ve been taking good care of your pet, Lead Investigator Chen. Please come with me.”

Chen Chuan wasn’t surprised that Zhuang Ke knew that he had been promoted. The companies all had their own information channels. Besides, Chen Chuan was their customer, so they paid attention to him.

Once he arrived at the cultivation area, he saw Dawncall in a specially made nest. It had grown bigger than before, and Chen Chuan could sense a brimming vitality oozing out of the bird reptile, even if it was sleeping.

“Your pet has just passed its observation period, and its mutated tissue has taken shape. Next, we will feed it medicine for the mutated tissue to grow, just like a martial artist. In another few days, if nothing goes wrong, it can leave with you,” Zhuang Ke said with a smile.
