Roadmap to the Boundless Sky

Book 4 Chapter 42: Orthodox And Heterodox

Book 4, Chapter 42: Orthodox And Heterodox

Chen Chuan’s Realm Pass chimed, and he stared in surprise when he saw that two other students had bought his course.

It had been less than three minutes since the first student, and he got two more already?

Then again, some of the wealthier students would buy all the lecturers’ classes before picking the ones that suited them.

This wasn’t useless, because even if a lecturer was great at teaching, that didn’t necessarily mean that they could help a student improve. The best method to get stronger was to find a path most appropriate for oneself.

He took a look at the students who bought his classes and found that they were two familiar names. They were also free right now, so he might as well meet them.

After tapping on his Realm Pass, Chen Chuan said, “Hongfu, I’ll need a lecture room in half an hour.”

Soon, Hongfu replied, “Lead Investigator Chen, the students have received your message and agreed to the proposed time for class. You’ve been given Training Room Four on the eighty-second floor for your lesson. Your class will begin at 9:30 a.m..”

“Alright. Thank you, Hongfu,” Chen Chuan said.

There was a brief pause. Then, Hongfu’s originally flat voice became much friendlier. “You’re welcome.”

Chen Chuan returned to his room and put away the teaching license and lecturer’s uniform before taking the elevator to a spacious and bright training room.

For some reason, he suddenly thought about Xue Shou. Perhaps it was because Xue Shou was really outstanding at teaching.

Yes. That had to be it.

He used the free time to look through Fan Cheng and Kong Yao’s information, then checked the recordings of their fights and potential assessment. Soon, he got an idea of their strength.

In less than twenty minutes, Fan Cheng and Kong Yao walked in. Chen Chuan was standing in front of the horizontal window with his back turned to them.

For some reason, when they saw his tall, straight back, they felt nervous, but to their surprise, they didn’t get the disorienting awkwardness they expected. Instead, they quickly got into the mindset of learning.

“Hello, Fan Cheng, Kong Yao.” Chen Chuan turned around.

“Hello, Mr. Chen.” They quickly bowed to him.

“I read through your information. You’ve learned under a dozen lecturers during the previous semester and studied under seven of them. Every time, you were able to improve a little but soon stopped getting stronger. That’s why you’re still looking for ways to get stronger,” Chen Chuan stated.

“Y-Yeah. We’re looking for a lecturer that’s suitable for us, but we have yet to find one. So... we decided to try our luck with you,” Fan Cheng said after composing himself.

Chen Chuan nodded. “Why don’t you show me what you’ve learned?”

Fan Cheng and Kong Yao exchanged a look. Practically every lecturer they met asked them to do this, so they were used to it. They moved away from each other and started fighting.

Chen Chuan released his mental energy and biofield and encased both of them with it. Their attacks, defenses, breathing, and how their mutated tissue moved were all exposed before his eyes.

Biofields could reveal almost everything about a person, and with mental energy, he could clearly sense their emotions and mental states.

With both these things, the two students were practically laid bare to him. At that moment, he knew them better than they knew themselves.

This only worked on martial artists below his level. If he ran into martial artists at his level and knew how to manipulate biofields, they would be able to lock down their information. That would make it hard for him to get a detailed read on them.

After watching the two for a while, he said, “Alright. That’s enough. You can stop now.”

The two stopped and felt their hearts thrumming with nerves.

“I’ve figured out where your problem lies. It’s not that you lack talent, but that you both have above average talent,” Chen Chuan explained.

Fan Cheng and Kong Yao were stunned. Above average talent? Ever since they came to the university, they had a hard time learning and had even begun to doubt themselves. They had never heard any lecturer telling them that they were talented.

“Your talent lies in the fact that your mutated tissue adapts really quickly. I’d say that both of you can immediately learn whatever technique you come across. Because of this, you can improve faster than the average person in the beginning, but if you want to truly master a technique, you need patience and in-depth studying,” Chen Chuan pointed out.

Fan Cheng scratched his head and said in a troubled manner, “We tried to keep up with our training, but our improvement was just too slow. Not only were we unable to maintain the same speed, but we even found ourselves regressing.”

“He’s right. Only if we switch to another course can we improve quickly and use our new knowledge to complement what we’ve learned before,” Kong Yao added.

“That’s because you have broad mutated tissue coverage, but that’s it. Your mutated tissue isn’t strong. It’s scattered and weak. That’s suitable for grasping new techniques, but once you reach a certain level, especially when you need to practice a technique in-depth, you only mobilize a certain group of mutated tissue. You don’t use the rest at all.

“Other people train all their mutated tissue in one direction, so how could you possibly win against them? It’s only natural that you start regressing as you continue training.

“When you learn different techniques, you make use of all your mutated tissue and indirectly promote its growth. That’s why you get stronger from it. However, if you don’t fix this problem soon and learn to use all of your mutated tissue as one whole unit before you pass your rapid growth period, you won’t have any room for correction anymore.”

Fan Cheng and Kong Yao were amazed. This was the first time they heard such remarks about themselves. After linking it to their situation, they couldn’t dispute Chen Chuan’s words, so they decided to believe them.

“No lecturer told us this before,” Kong Yao said with disappointment.

Fan Cheng nodded. Before Chen Chuan, no lecturer had explained their problem so clearly before.

I don’t think it’s because the lecturers couldn’t see the problem. Fan Cheng and Kong Yao have both done the potential assessment test and went through a physical examination. The lecturers should have read their reports and just been unable to solve their problem, Chen Chuan thought.

Most lecturers focused on honing one refined force. Because of it, aside from teaching what they knew, they couldn’t do much to help these two. All they could do was aid them a bit.

Besides, most lecturers only cared about helping their students pass the tests. If Fan Cheng and Kong Yao improved a bit, that was good enough for them. As for how far they could go, that wasn’t their concern.

Chen Chuan chose not to comment. Instead, he said, “You need to do a full-scale correction for your mutated tissue and train them holistically rather than being in a hurry to learn new refined forces or techniques.

“This requires time. At the very least, it’ll take a month, but probably two. I can help you. If you find the training method I’m going to teach you suitable, you’ll need to use it and give up on your other classes.

“If you’re willing to do that, you can stay. If you can’t, then I’m going to teach you some useful techniques for the two classes you bought.”

Fan Cheng and Kong Yao were uncertain. If they studied under Chen Chuan, they might fall behind their other coursemates. Could they catch up to the other students after two months? And what about their test this semester?

Chen Chuan didn’t rush them to answer. He just stood quietly and waited for their decision.

Fan Cheng and Kong Yao discussed it over their Realm Passes before Fan Cheng gritted his teeth. “We’ll continue studying under you.”

Chen Chuan’s ability to immediately pinpoint where their problem was wasn’t the sole deciding factor behind their decision. It was also because their growth was beginning to stagnate. They had a feeling that if this continued, they were going to fall behind their coursemates, so they decided to take the plunge.

The moment Chen Chuan heard their decision, he tapped on his Realm Pass, and the two students received a course display. Without hesitation, they bought two months’ worth of classes.

Chen Chuan asked them to step forward and tapped on different parts of their bodies while asking them to breathe according to these instructions. After that, he demonstrated a few stances for them.

Once he was done, he had them practice what he had shown them.

They practised seriously. In just half an hour, they felt their bodies and limbs becoming sore and starting to ache horribly. After a moment, though, they felt as if they could move their bodies much more smoothly than before.

They could sense all of their mutated tissue moving with them, and some of it was in parts they had never used before.

Excitement lit up in their eyes, and they looked at each other in delight.

It actually worked.

Chen Chuan had taught them stances and breathing patterns customized according to their strengths.

Since he practiced the All-Encompassing Force, he could imitate and understand all forms of mutated tissue usage and refined force generation. Because of it, he also knew how to make adjustments and modifications to various usages of mutated tissue and refined force generation.

The other lecturers could only teach their students based on their experience. Since everyone was different, their experience couldn’t be fully applied to everyone. If they did, even if they managed to teach a student something, the student would end up mediocre, because their strengths and specialties would have been reduced to nothing.

Fan Cheng and Kong Yao were only at the Second Limit. Their mutated tissue growth was only at a superficial level, so they could still make corrections. After some appropriate adjustments and training, they could walk down the correct path.

Once Fan Cheng and Kong Yao sensed the benefits, they began training of their own accord. In the beginning, Chen Chuan needed to correct them a little, but after a few sets, they became familiar with the movements.

“Let’s end our class here today. Go back and take your medicine. Based on the strength of your mutated tissue, don’t train for more than three hours every day. Rest the rest of the time so that your mutated tissue can recover.

“When you’re no longer feeling as sore, come find me again. If you run into anything you don’t understand or face a problem you can’t solve, send a message to me.”

“Thank you, Mr. Chen!”

Fan Cheng and Kong Yao bowed to him with sincere gratitude.

At this moment, they no longer thought of Chen Chuan as a former coursemate but a lecturer worthy of their respect.

After they left, Chen Chuan noticed that with the combination of the All-Encompassing Force, mental energy, biofield, and techniques, teaching wasn’t that hard, especially when teaching those at the Second Limit. He felt that he could even help those who weren’t all that talented find suitable paths.

Of course, talent decided how far a martial artist could go. If someone had sufficient resources, Chen Chuan could at most help them reach their fullest potential.

That was good enough.

Right then, Chen Chuan realized that he found joy in teaching, especially after people who had flaws in their training and were falling behind started getting stronger under his teaching. It was incredibly fulfilling.

Hmm?

He then noticed that his second self had moved closer to him, which was a sign that their overlap time had increased. Was it because he resonated with Chen Chuan’s satisfaction and joy?

If that were the case, perhaps he could spend some time giving in-depth teaching to his friends and acquaintances.
