Book 4, Chapter 45: Awaken
Since he had enough empty slots, Chen Chuan could hire more than just the martial artists. He even brought in Wei Changan’s two technicians.
Technicians were necessary for groups carrying out individual missions. They were in charge of driving, maintenance, transport, sending telegrams during crucial moments, and other things.
Even though they didn’t have a resonator, Chen Chuan had handed over that slot to Wu Bei immediately after he got his team expanded. He also intended to assign Wu Bei to the technician team later on.
The group was reading the hiring guidelines when someone from Wei Changan gasped in surprise.
“We get a salary?!”
He hadn’t paid much attention to the form earlier. He just filled it out the moment he got it due to his absolute trust in Chen Chuan. It was only at this moment that he finally realized what he was going to get.
Wei Changan lifted his cup and said earnestly, “Chen Chuan, let us toast you.”
The others lifted their cups as well.
Chen Chuan did the same, and they took a sip. Even though they weren’t drinking wine, everyone felt invigorated, because from this moment on, they would truly have a footing in Central City.
“I checked the clauses just now. They’re very generous. No other place would be able to give us such great terms. If you need our help, just tell us,” Cai Si said.
Wei Changan nodded, and his team members looked over as well.
Feng Xiaoqi and Luo Kaiyuan also became more serious. Since they had become part of Chen Chuan’s team, they definitely had to work for it. Everyone turned to Chen Chuan for orders.
This happened naturally. Chen Chuan had already led them out on several missions in Yangzhi City, so they were used to having him as their leader. It wasn’t really that much different from working with him back in Yangzhi City.
Chen Chuan tapped on his Realm Pass again and sent some files to them.
“I have some information regarding two targets the Resolution Department wants investigated. Our focus will be on these two companies.
“While the Resolution Department is also investigating them, they can only delegate a limited number of manpower to this investigation, especially since I’ve only just assumed office. Those officers can do surface-level investigation while going by the book, but when it comes to things that need in-depth investigation, they aren’t effective.”
Wei Changan perked up. He was glad that Chen Chuan had something to do for them. He was worried that he would be giving them money and status without giving them any work. That would be humiliating.
As the leader of his own group, he understood what Chen Chuan was saying. When leaders delegated tasks to their subordinates, they needed their subordinates to take initiative and carry them out efficiently. If they lacked these things, they wouldn’t be able to get many things done. Even if they succeeded, the results would be far from ideal. They would also need to bear additional capital and waste energy.
Chen Chuan had just become a lead investigator and hadn’t formed mutual trust with his subordinates, and he needed people he trusted for such a crucial task.
In other words, them.
“We can’t promise you that we’ll definitely succeed, but we’ll do our best,” Wei Changan said seriously.
Cai Si read through the information and said grimly, “We only got to truly know how different Central City is from Yangzhi City. Many hired employees are really strong, and Second Limit martial artists are a dime a dozen. They’re all experienced fighters too. While we’re confident in carrying out regular missions, the targets are big companies. We might run into Third Limit martial artists, which would be beyond what we can handle. I’m not scared of fighting them, but I don’t think we can complete this task.”
“I considered this. I have a few subordinates who are all Third Limit martial artists and trustworthy people. They’re gonna be transferred here in a few days and you can join their units,” Chen Chuan assured him.
Third Limit martial artists?
They were stunned. Wasn’t Chen Chuan also a Third Limit martial artist? How could he have Third Limit martial artists as subordinates? Judging by his tone, they were even trusted aides.
They couldn’t imagine how Chen Chuan had achieved it, and they couldn’t help but be impressed.
“While you’re all part of my team now, you need to go through certain training, including learning about the rules and regulations you need to uphold while carrying out your missions, the laws in Central City, and other things,” Chen Chuan continued.
They nodded. It made sense.
“Also, I need to tell you something else. I’ve gotten a teaching license in Martial Valor University,” Chen Chuan added.
They were stunned for a moment, then their eyes flew wide open in shock.
“Do you mean... the main campus?” Wei Changan asked tentatively.
Chen Chuan smiled with a nod.
“You’re amazing!” Wei Changan praised him sincerely. He hadn’t even made it to the main campus as a student, and Chen Chuan had already become a lecturer. “I wasn’t expecting this at all...”
“So, here’s my plan. You’re all my friends and team members. If you get stronger, you’ll be able to help me better. I’d like to do a crash course for all of you. Would you like that?” Chen Chuan said.
“Of course! 100% yes!”
Feng Xiaoqi was the first to put his hand up. Why would he say no? Setting aside Chen Chuan’s strength, he had become a lecturer in the main campus. They definitely had to seize this chance.
Feng Xiaoqi had spoken to Wei Dong at length before and learned that they could only attend public lectures if he did not have the money to pay for private lessons. All targeted teaching required payment.
If Chen Chuan taught them, that would be the same as having a Martial Valor University lecturer teaching them. He would be a clown to say no!
“I couldn’t ask for more!” Wei Changan said with a laugh.
While he was older, Chen Chuan had long since left him in the dust. Martial artists only cared about strength, not seniority. If Chen Chuan was stronger, then it was obvious that he could teach him.
Wu Han finished his drink and slammed his cup down before asking eagerly, “When are we starting?”
“Today is my day off. I’m free, so let’s look for a place after lunch, and I’ll set up a training plan for all of you,” Chen Chuan proposed.
“Sure!”
Chen Chuan then notified the hotel and had the attendants waiting outside to serve them food.
Lunch was a lively affair, because all of them had finally gotten out of their horrible situation after coming to Central City. They could see a brighter future ahead, so they were filled with eager anticipation.
Once they finished lunch, they walked out of the restaurant and went to a training hall in Martial Order District.
Since Martial Valor University was built in Martial Order District, the place was filled with training halls. Usually, these places were packed, but due to the finals of the tournament coming up, most people went to watch, and many of the training halls were empty.
The moment they were inside, Chen Chuan had them warm up and spar with him one by one.
During the spar, he observed them using his mental energy and biofield to find a suitable path for his friends.
While sparring, he also found himself nodding in approval. No matter what, all of them had graduated from Yangzhi City’s Martial Valor University, so their foundation was solid. Most of them had great potential too. Compared to Fan Cheng and Kong Yao, all they lacked were training resources. If they had those, they could become a whole lot stronger.
Of course, this was because Wei Changan, Feng Xiaoqi, Luo Kaiyuan, Wu Han, Wei Dong, Cai Si, and the rest were elites of their respective batches. They had always been outstanding. The only thing holding them back was a lack of opportunity, never talent.
Chen Chuan custom-made a series of breathing techniques and stances based on their strengths to help their mutated tissue grow better. Even a simple training regimen could improve the flow of their refined force and make their attacks more powerful.
After roughly half a day, everyone felt like they had improved significantly. They had only had this feeling when they first started their breathing technique training as students in Martial Valor University.
They were all excited. If Chen Chuan hadn’t limited their training time, they would have wanted to keep on continuing.
“The medicine for training is the most important thing. It’s easy for me to get what’s needed for Second Limit martial artists, so I’ll allocate them for you later,” Chen Chuan offered.
Naturally, the Resolution Department wasn’t going to give him those things. If he used his operation budget to buy medicine, he wouldn’t have enough for the upcoming challenges.
Fortunately, Wu Ruo left behind a lot of medicine. He had also gained a lot of loot from the people he defeated. Since he no longer needed this type of medicine, he could distribute it to his friends.
To make sure that the prideful ones wouldn’t reject his offer, he told them upfront that he was sponsoring them, so he was really just lending them the medicine. Once they were financially secure and had money to spare, they could pay him back.
He stayed in the training hall for an entire afternoon to settle everything. Once he was done, he parted ways with his friends and went back to Martial Valor University.
After he parked his car in the underground parking lot, he received a message from the World Ring Defense System that his application had been approved. Yuan Qiuyuan, Qin Qingque, and Su Wei were going to be transferred to Central City once they completed their current mission.
He nodded at that. With this, his team was starting to take shape. The moment they finished their training, he could dive into more in-depth investigations.
While he was mulling over his thoughts, he took the elevator to his apartment. His original intention had been to go upstairs to take a shower, but after just a few steps, he sensed something off and went to the spiral staircase.
The moment he reached his training room, he saw the Frost King Saber vibrating on its stand. Wisps of light spilled out of the gap between the blade and sheath.
Chen Chuan’s eyes fixed on it. Was it finally waking up after so many days had passed?
He walked over and grabbed the Frost King Saber.
