Book 4, Chapter 136: Powerful And Aggressive
Just as the artifact was about to be completely swallowed up, a light flashed forward like a lightning bolt, and the artifact vanished from the crack. Siegfried of the Lightning Siblings had scooped it up and was about to leave when a whip came charging at him. It wrapped around his ankle and sent him crashing into the ground.
Qi Qianyang used the force generated from his exchange of blows with Chen Chuan to jump backward and snap his whip at Siegfried. If not for the fact that he had lost a lot of his refined force in the fight and had no time to generate more, that whip attack could have blasted Siegfried apart, and he wouldn’t have had to take all those unnecessary steps afterward.
Another flash of light shot forward. It was Silvia. She grabbed the artifact from Siegfried and tossed it backward. It flew through the air before landing in front of Heros.
He had already stood up after having recovered from his injuries. That wasn’t all; he had grown even taller than before, and his aura was even stronger.
The cracked parts on his face and body started falling to reveal the bones underneath. They were entirely black.
Those were the Hero’s Bones.
According to the mural depicting Hapmoas’ martial arts, the practitioners had to gain three things: the Hero’s Blood, the Hero’s Bones, and the Hero’s Soul.
With the completion of each one, their strength would increase. Then, they could move to the peak of it all—the last step, also known as the Hero’s Destiny. This was the last thing but also a new beginning, because it meant that they could now determine their own fate based on what they’ve already gained.
They could proceed to the last part whenever they wanted and stimulate all of their potential. If they could overcome whatever challenge they were facing at that moment, they could overcome the last challenge and reach a higher limit. If they couldn’t complete it, they would die.
At that moment, Heros took that last step.
He cast a glance at the ball but didn’t pick it up. Instead, he stomped down on it and turned to Chen Chuan.
From the fight just now, he could tell that Qi Qianyang was unlikely to win. Then, there was no point in him holding onto the artifact. He would just end up protecting it for Chen Chuan. It was only after he killed Chen Chuan that the situation would change.
When the Lightning Siblings saw this, they immediately figured out what he was trying to do and didn’t voice any objections. Instead, they turned to Chen Chuan and shifted into their attack positions.
Ingram raised his arm and made a sign. The people behind him spread out and formed a circle further back. They had reached an agreement: They had to kill Chen Chuan first.
Chen Chuan’s nigh unstoppable power had brought them great fear and unease. If they didn’t kill him, none of them could relax.
Qi Qianyang looked around him before turning to Chen Chuan and giving him a teasing grin. “I have no interest in working with them, but I can’t exactly control who they attack, can I?”
Chen Chuan looked at all of them and reached for the buttons of his overcoat. He unbuttoned it and tossed the overcoat aside to flutter away in the wind. This action revealed his military uniform.
At the same time, he released the restraints over his mutated tissue.
Since his body was near perfection and the resilience of his mutated tissue had shot to sky-high levels, the moment he released them, his mutated tissue cheered with excitement, and an endless wave of power flowed to every corner of his body.
The mutated tissue in the Frost King Saber was connected to him, so it also became so full of life that the saber started trembling and buzzing faintly.
The land under their feet was still rising, like a large creature was stirring awake.
Regardless of whether it was due to the insect flood or some creature under their feet, they had no time nor energy to care about them. Everyone’s attention was on Chen Chuan, and they didn’t dare to move their eyes away for even a second.
A huge gust of wind blew, making Chen Chuan’s red scarf flutter. Then, they saw a blur. To their surprise, Chen Chuan appeared right next to Skin Flayer Motimor and put a hand on his head before twisting it.
Skin Flayer’s eyes flew wide open in fright. The next second, his spine, neck, and limbs twisted backward, as if Chen Chuan was treating his body like a wet towel and wringing him dry.
As cracking sounds rose, blood and tissue oozed out of him. His body became twisted like a rope braid.
Bang!
Skin Flayer collapsed on the floor. No one knew whether Chen Chuan did so on purpose or not, but he hadn’t died, even now. His eyes remained wide open in terror.
Whoosh!
A whip came snapping at Chen Chuan, but it only landed on his afterimage and left a trench on the ground.
When Chen Chuan attacked Skin Flayer, only Qi Qianyang managed to react. Even so, he had only captured Chen Chuan’s movements. His attack had been too slow.
Suddenly, sirens blared in his head, and his heart leapt to his throat. With a snap of his wrist, the whip spun around him.
It was just in time as well, because a saber reached him in the span of a breath and struck the whip. A wave of refined force gushed into his body through the whip, causing him to shudder.
But it wasn’t over yet. Another attack came at him. Qi Qianyang was forced to stabilize his breathing and swing his whip in circles to block it. This time, Chen Chuan used the same refined force as before. The Submission Force adapted quickly, and he was able to withstand the attack, but when the next one descended on him, he trembled again, because Chen Chuan had used another refined force.
The next dozen slashes contained different refined forces, and it caused great discomfort to his mutated tissue, because the strength of the Submission Force lay in its adaptability. He didn’t need to make any special adjustments; it could automatically adapt to the refined force that entered his body.
When many different types of refined forces charged into him within a short time interval, his mutated tissue was forced to stretch and contract. He was unable to endure them, and within this short amount of time, his mutated tissue became dysregulated and tired. It was screaming at him that it wanted to stop and rest for a bit.
However, there was no time for that in a fight. While enduring discomfort, Qi Qianyang mobilized his mutated tissue by force and drew enough power to continue defending against the subsequent attacks.
Chen Chuan took note that his defenses had become weaker. Qi Qianyang’s whip wasn’t moving as quickly or powerfully as before. Chen Chuan’s gaze sharpened, and he grabbed the saber with both hands before slashing at him.
Fear crawled down Qi Qianyang’s spine. Without even thinking, he used his full power to snap the whip. As a loud bang exploded between the two weapons, a wave of power crashed into Qi Qianyang through the whip.
He was familiar with this refined force, though. It was the same one he had endured in Central City.
Normally, after experiencing the refined force once and recovering from it, he could withstand it with the Submission Force, but this refined force was much stronger than the one he endured that day.
No matter how adaptable the Submission Force was, it used his mutated tissue as a foundation and had an endurance limit. This attack completely surpassed it.
His body trembled again, and he stopped swinging his whip for a moment. At that instant, he saw a hand coming straight for him. The light from the palm dissolved the light on the whip. Then, with a swing, Qi Qianyang was yanked off his feet and slammed against the ground so hard that it trembled, and dust flew everywhere.
Chen Chuan sensed something and cast his gaze to the side. Heros was holding a longspear and appeared to be ready to throw it to save Qi Qianyang, since if he died, the fight would be over.
Chen Chuan spun on his feet and lunged, but not toward the collapsed Qi Qianyang. He appeared in front of Heros, shocking the man so much that he threw the longspear.
Chen Chuan punted the spear high into the air, while Heros used the momentum from the throw to lunge forward. In an instant, he closed in and threw a punch with light glowing on his fist.
Instead of dodging, Chen Chuan threw a punch with his free hand. As their fists drew closer, the light started melting away, and their refined forces collided.
Bam!
Both their bodies stilled for a moment.
Heros didn’t stumble back from Chen Chuan’s refined force. Instead, he threw yet another punch, and it was followed by a third, fourth, and many others so that he could keep the initiative.
Chen Chuan let go of the Frost King Saber and traded blow for blow with Heros. Each time, their fists rammed into each other. Since they were too strong and too fast, a large cloud of dancing, spinning dust exploded around them, and for a time, none of the spectators could tell what was going on.
After Heros stimulated all his potential, his physical abilities had increased by a lot, which was why he had dared to engage with Chen Chuan. In the beginning, he was able to release enough spirit sense in both hands, and the Hero’s Bones were strong enough to withstand the refined force from Chen Chuan, but once he threw his third punch, he felt as if all his strength had been drained.
On the fourth punch, he felt a powerful refined force charging at him and dispelling his remaining spirit sense. It then rushed into him with no resistance.
His mind reeled, as if he had lost consciousness for a second. His body swayed, and he fell to his knees with a loud thud as his head bowed.
More cracks appeared on his body. This time, they extended to his black bones. It looked like they were about to shatter.
Chen Chuan stretched out his arm and grabbed the longspear that was about to fall down.
Just as he lifted it, light charged at him from behind him and from his left. The Lightning Siblings had shown up. The fins on their arms shone as they tried to cut him, but two loud bangs rose, and they were sent flying by the longspear.
Chen Chuan lifted the longspear again. This time, the tip was directed downward, and he thrust it at Heros. The spear pierced through the back of his head and came out of his mouth before stabbing into the ground.
Heros tensed up, then relaxed. He stopped moving after being impaled by the spear.
