Chapter 2533: Chapter 2315: Let Me Lead_5

"So, does that mean you’re the second-best student in your class?" Li Jiachen asked.

"Hehehe," Chen Xue chuckled awkwardly.

"Impressive, but if you’re doing so well academically, why would Teacher Feng scold you? When Teacher Feng gets angry, it’s quite scary." Li Jiachen said.

"But I’m only in my second year, and it’s just the first semester end exam. I haven’t even finished all my theory classes yet, and I can only do a little bit of pulse diagnosis. Teacher Feng just asked me to start diagnosing patients. How am I supposed to do that?" Chen Xue replied.

"Well, you have a point; maybe Teacher Feng thought you were a graduate intern." Li Jiachen said.

"I don’t know either..." Chen Xue said.

"You should follow Teacher Feng closely. Medical students nowadays aren’t like before. It’s really tough to find jobs; undergraduate students hardly find work—they have to go for a master’s." Li Jiachen remarked.

Talking about finding a job made Chen Xue feel pressured too.

"Yes, my undergrad alone takes five years, and a master’s is two years. I’m already 22 this year, by the time I finish my master’s, I’ll be 28... sigh." Chen Xue couldn’t help but sigh.

"Yeah, who knows how long we’ll have to study." Li Jiachen commented.

"Plus, the tuition is expensive. My family is under a lot of pressure." Chen Xue responded.

"After graduation, if you manage to get into a hospital, the competition there is fierce too." Li Jiachen added.

"Really?" Chen Xue asked.

"Yes, haven’t you seen those young nurses? They do whatever it takes for a promotion—the department director is constantly going out with them. It’s a different nurse every day; these young girls are really pitiful. If they don’t compromise, they’ll just be nurses their whole lives, sigh." Li Jiachen said.

"Yeah, we’ve heard about such things. Female physicians let hospital leaders take advantage for title evaluations." Chen Xue said.

"There’s no way around it; everyone wants to climb up. Why would those above choose to give you opportunities unless you make some sacrifices? It’s inevitable." Li Jiachen replied.

Chen Xue’s eyes turned dull.

"What plans do you have for the future? Do you want to pursue a master’s after your bachelor’s?" Li Jiachen asked Chen Xue.

"I don’t know yet. My parents are getting old; supporting my college education is really challenging. Getting through these five years of undergrad is already not easy." Chen Xue said.

"But just doing this five-year undergrad, especially in Traditional Chinese Medicine, makes it really hard to find a job. You know, everyone trusts those old Traditional Chinese Medicine doctors—young people like you, patients don’t trust, and hospitals don’t want to hire young Traditional Chinese Medicine physicians. It’s tough finding a job." Li Jiachen explained.

"Yes, I know; every time I think about these things, I feel anxious. My family is also worried, but my parents don’t talk to me about it; they never bring it up. But I know they’re concerned for me deeply inside." Chen Xue said.

"What if you can’t find a job? You’ll just have to go for a master’s." Li Jiachen said.

"If I really can’t find a job, I don’t even want to go for a master’s. If I go for a master’s, I’ll be 25 or 26, how can I still shamelessly spend my family’s money?" Chen Xue replied.

"Then you’ll have to switch careers and do something else, and those five years of Traditional Chinese Medicine undergrad would be wasted. It would be such a shame to give up." Li Jiachen remarked.

"There’s no choice; if I can’t find a job in my field, I can’t starve. Anyway, I don’t want to do a master’s." Chen Xue said.

"Then you’ll have to find a job. You need to start thinking about it now and set a goal." Li Jiachen advised.

"I still have three years till graduation. I don’t understand job-related matters at all, and with my half-baked skills, no hospital would take me. Even if one dared, I’d be too scared to treat patients." Chen Xue said.

"It’s all about opportunity; it doesn’t matter how much you know. Even medical students, after five years of undergrad, won’t be much better than you in skills. The key is finding a way into a hospital and having a mentor willing to train and guide you and give you opportunities." Li Jiachen advised.

"But I’m not that lucky." Chen Xue sighed again.

"Actually, opportunity is right in front of you; it’s just a matter of whether you can seize it." Li Jiachen hinted to Chen Xue.

"What opportunity?" Chen Xue asked skeptically, looking at Li Jiachen’s sly expression and becoming wary.

"Of course, it’s about job opportunities." Li Jiachen teased.

"Our hospital just happens to need Traditional Chinese Medicine physicians like you, especially young graduates with high qualifications in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Recently, the hospital noticed the problem with experienced physicians being too old and new ones too young, so they’ve introduced a mentorship program. It involves pairing experienced, highly competent old Traditional Chinese Medicine physicians in our hospital with young graduates from Traditional Chinese Medicine programs to form a mentor-apprentice system, offering one-on-one training. There’s demand for young Traditional Chinese Medicine medical students and interns." Li Jiachen explained.
