Cining Palace, where the palace staff stood silently, the vast hall so quiet that even the drop of a needle could be heard.

The imperial physician had already arrived and was treating Empress Dowager Mo.

Ah Jiu and Wufu entered the bedchamber, where the palace staff promptly bowed. The two approached, seeing the physician checking the pulse, dared not disturb him, and stood aside.

Empress Dowager Mo had lost a significant amount of weight, her complexion pale, lips dry, and strands of silver appeared at her temples which hadn’t been there days before, clearly from the recent toll.

Emperor Yan had collapsed, so she must be deeply saddened.

Ah Jiu clenched his fist in compassion.

Once the imperial physician retracted the pulse pillow, Ah Jiu asked, "Physician, how is Royal Mother’s health?"

"Empress Dowager’s excessive worry has led to a liver fire and exhaustion. She has likely not rested well at night, leading to this fainting," the physician replied.

Upon hearing this, Ah Jiu immediately looked towards Nanny Shui.

Nanny Shui said, "For the past few nights, Her Ladyship has had nightmares and only sleeps one or two Shichen."

"Why was this not reported?" Ah Jiu expressed some displeasure.

Nanny Shui gave a bitter smile, "The palace is in chaos, and Her Ladyship did not permit it to be mentioned."

Ah Jiu pursed her lips and said to the physician, "Prescribe two doses of medicine to help Royal Mother sleep more comfortably."

"Yes, Your Highness," the physician quickly responded, "I will prescribe two doses to clear the fire and calm the mind, but Her Ladyship must not dwell too much as it isn’t conducive to her health."

He carefully gave instructions before leaving with the palace staff to prepare and personally decoct the medicine.

Wufu said to Ah Jiu, "Now that Royal Mother has fainted, let her sleep for a while. There’s still much to handle outside; you go ahead, and I’ll watch over her here."

"I’ll sit for a while longer," Ah Jiu waved her hand.

Nanny Shui immediately had two stools brought over for the two to sit down.

They sat for a Shichen until Empress Dowager Mo let out a soft murmur and woke up.

"Royal Mother, do you feel better?" Ah Jiu and Wufu quickly moved forward.

Empress Dowager Mo turned her head, "Why are you two here?"

She struggled to get up, and Wufu quickly helped her up, placing a large Suqing welcoming pillow behind her waist.

"Royal Mother, you fainted and frightened us, how could we not come?" Ah Jiu sat at the edge of the bed, looking at her thin face, said, "Royal Mother, please don’t grieve too much, otherwise Imperial Brother in heaven won’t be at peace."

Empress Dowager Mo slightly curled her lips, "It’s because I am getting old, an unavoidable matter."

"Age is not an issue, Royal Mother, you must open your heart. After all, we’re still young, and Prince Dong is even younger. This vast palace, Beiyan, relies on you, our calming needle, to stabilize it." Wufu urged, "You’re the elder in the palace, and Prince Dong needs your guidance."

Empress Dowager Mo shook her head, "Now is the world of you young people, I am done with taking charge, I only wish to enjoy and dote on my grandchildren."

"For that, you’ll need good health to take care of grandchildren, which can be exhausting," Wufu immediately said, "We rely on you too!"

Upon hearing this, Empress Dowager Mo looked towards her belly, full of anticipation, "You..."

Wufu’s mouth twitched, "Not yet, not now."

Empress Dowager Mo’s hopes shattered, realizing she wasn’t pregnant, thus needing to wait another year, as they must observe mourning for Emperor Yan.

"In two years, there will surely be, Royal Mother rest assured." Seeing her disappointment, Wufu quickly added.

Ah Jiu also said, "Royal Mother, you mustn’t fall ill on us, we truly only have you, and so does Beiyan!"

Empress Dowager Mo looked at the two young ones, remembering Emperor Yan, who had passed. His empire must be maintained, so she said, "Rest assured."
