I Was Forced To Marry The Phoenix Empress

Chapter 328: Great Divinator Guild

Chapter 328: Great Divinator Guild

In front of Yi Chen was a three-storied tower-like building. Its three roofs were tiled in gold, and on top of the flying eaves on all ends, stood a black coiling dragon’s head.

The entrance was a tall gate, bluish white in colour, which had cloud patterns embedded on it, looking greatly similar to the sky.

On top of the entrance, on a signboard, was written ’Great Divinator Guild’ in aggressive strokes. Just looking at it was enough to make one’s heart pound.

Although the building was only three stories and, compared to the Red Velvet Pavilion’s towering building in the Jade City, it was quite small, it stood out in its own way and forcefully made a space in people’s minds.

Letting out a deep breath, Yi Chen finally removed his gaze from the signboard before making his way towards the entrance.

Pushing open the gate, which was so heavy that anyone below the Fifth Meridian Refinement Stage would find it almost impossible to open, Yi Chen made his way in.

A floor covered in white jade entered his view the moment he entered, and on one end was a reception table behind which an elderly man was sitting with his eyes closed.

Seeing this, Yi Chen immediately used his ability to check his status panel.

======================

’Even the receptionist is at the Qi Absorption Stage,’ Yi Chen thought, clearly impressed by it, as he made his way towards the reception table.

Apart from him, there seemed to be no other visitors at the place, and the moment he was just five steps away from the reception counter, the man finally opened his eyes.

"How should I help you?" he asked with a polite smile, but what pulled one’s attention instantly were his deep eyes that carried an inexplicable profoundness in them.

"Greetings, Elder," Yi Chen gave a short bow and continued, "More than a month ago, my friend...who was afflicted with a curse should have come to the guild. I wanted to-"

"So, you’re that young girl’s friend?" Kai Xuan nodded in understanding and asked, "So what is it that you want?"

"I wanted to inquire about her condition. I’ve been out of the Kingdom for a while and have just returned..." Yi Chen explained.

"So that’s how it is." Kai Xuan nodded at those words and said with furrowed brows as if trying hard to recollect, "...Since it’s rare for people afflicted with the death hex to show up at our branch here, that incident did leave an impression in my mind..."

Kai Xuan paused for a moment and continued as his eyes blinked rapidly.

"...Her death hex was in its last stages by the time she arrived, and the branch head had to personally get involved to treat her."

"S-She’s fine now, right?" Yi Chen immediately asked, unable to control himself any longer.

"Since the branch head got involved, she naturally was healed within a couple of weeks’ time and had long left. Although complete recovery would still take a few months." Kai Xuan answered.

"T-That’s a relief," Yi Chen sighed with a relieved smile evident on his face.

’Then they would have already returned to the sect by now,’ Yi Chen thought to himself and bowed towards the old man the next second.

"Thank you for your time, Elder." Yi Chen bowed gratefully and was about to leave after seeing a nod from Kai Xuan when he felt a wave of spiritual energy inside his body.

Being familiar with it now, he knew that his cultivation was being probed at the moment.

"Ninth Meridian Refinement Stage at just eighteen...not bad. Have you ever taken the divinity test before?" Kai Xuan asked in a tone that sounded neither too impressed nor too disappointed.

"No, I haven’t."

Yi Chen shook his head in response.

"Then how about trying it now? The Great Divinator Guild is always looking for young bloods such as you," Kai Xuan said with a smile and as he said that, a silver orb, the size of one’s fist, appeared on the counter in front of him.

"This is a Divinity Testing Orb," Kai Xuan said while placing his palm on top of the orb and the next second a piercing golden light forced Yi Chen to tightly shut his eyes together.

When his eyes finally adjusted to the brightness, he saw that the one-third portion of the orb had turned completely golden.

"One just needs to pour their Qi inside the orb as I did, and the change in colour, like just now, would imply that they have the inherent aptitude to become a Divinator."

With that said, Kai Xuan gestured to Yi Chen to try it out himself.

Brimming with curiosity as to whether he had this strange thing called divinity in his Qi or not, Yi Chen immediately placed his hand on top of the orb and, with an expectant expression, directed his Qi into it.

A sudden suction force was instantly felt by him as one-tenth of his Qi pool was immediately consumed.

"This..."

A bitter smile appeared on Yi Chen’s face the very next instant.

Despite consuming a significant portion of his Qi, in the end, the orb showed no change, much to both Yi Chen and Kai Xuan’s disappointment.

Seeing the result, Kai Xuan couldn’t help but feel disappointed inwardly. However, he didn’t show it outwardly.

Putting the Orb back in his storage ring, he patted Yi Chen on his shoulder, who clearly had a bitter expression on his face.

"It’s alright, lad. You don’t need to fret over it too much. Out of a hundred thousand cultivators, only a handful have their Qi laced with divinity.

Having or not having divinity will not limit your cultivation journey, so you shouldn’t think much over this issue."

He consoled Yi Chen in a professional manner.

"Thank you for your guidance, Elder." Yi Chen clasped his hands and said, "Then, I’ll be taking my leave."

"Mhm. I wish you great luck in your cultivation journey, then," Kai Xuan said with a nod as he saw Yi Chen turning around and leaving the building.

"What a pity..."

Now that Yi Chen wasn’t present, Kai Xuan muttered with a disappointed expression before closing his eyes yet again.

Meanwhile, the Orb inside his storage ring, which still contained Yi Chen’s residual Qi, started developing some changes.

From the bottom to the top, within a fraction of a second, the entire orb had turned golden, enveloping the insides of Kai Xuan’s storage ring in blinding golden light.

However, this phenomenon lasted for just a millisecond, and just the next second, the Divinity Testing Orb shattered into nothingness.

...

Walking out of the building with a slightly slouched back, Yi Chen sighed in disappointment.

"Looks like I was expecting too much..." he muttered with a bitter smile while gesturing towards an incoming carriage to stop.

’Well...it was my fault for thinking too much in the first place. Just because I possess a system doesn’t mean that I would also possess sky-shattering talents like those of protagonists.’

Getting into the carriage, he soon shook those disappointing thoughts away, and as the carriage started heading in the Feng Clan’s direction, he started looking forward to reuniting with Qin Yao and the rest.

"Stop!"

An energetic sound came from outside, which prompted the carriage to soon come to a stop right outside the Feng Clan’s gates.

The next second, Yi Chen felt footsteps coming in his direction, making him pull his head out of the window.

"B-Brother Chen!"

"It really is Young Master Chen!"

Two distinct voices cried out the moment they saw Yi Chen’s head, which had just popped out of the carriage.

"Oh?" Brother Liang? It’s been a while." Yi Chen raised his eyes in realisation as he saw a familiar face among the two guards.

Checking his status the next second, Yi Chen couldn’t help but smile brighter and nodded with a tone of encouragement, "It seems that you’ve been working hard these days. Congratulations on entering the Ninth Elementary Transformation Stage."

"T-Thank you, Brother Chen!" Brother Liang’s mood immediately brightened when he heard those words as he continued, "It’s all because of Brother Chen. Seeing you bring such great glory to our clan made me push myself to my limits."

Turning towards his fellow guard, Brother Liang said, "It’s not just me. It’s the same for all the disciples of the clan, especially the External Disciples, who, just like how Brother Chen did it, want to aim at becoming an Inner Disciple."

"Yes, I can vouch for those words, Young Master Chen!" Brother Liang’s colleague exclaimed in a respectful manner the next second.

Sensing such passionate feelings from the two of them naturally brought the smile on Yi Chen’s face to widen as he nodded with an impressed expression, "Good! Keep working hard!"

The two of them nodded in excitement and, not wanting to keep Yi Chen waiting for long, immediately allowed the carriage inside.
