I Was Forced To Marry The Phoenix Empress

Chapter 353: Returning

Chapter 353: Returning

’Seems like he’s finally interested,’ Feng Haoran thought with excitement brimming in his eyes and asked the very next moment, "This would be greatly beneficial for you when you’re up against Qi Absorption Stage cultivators, so you should definitely consider it."

"...Patriarch is right." Yi Chen nodded a couple of seconds later with no trace of hesitation on his face and said, "I’ll be choosing this Shadow Cloak as my second choice."

"Great!" Feng Haoran exclaimed with a smile, and soon, with a cloak in his hand and a mirror hovering behind them, they got out of the Clan’s treasury.

Seeing them coming out, Feng Weiguo opened his eyes to glance at the two items they had brought with them.

’Ah, it’s the shadow cloak...’ he nodded in an obvious fashion before a slight furrow formed on his face, ’Why did he choose that mirror?’

The moment this doubt came to his mind, his eyes went straight towards Feng Haoran as he asked with a subtle glare, "Did you not inform him properly about the Thousand Replica Mirror?"

"Elder Weiguo, I did, but Yi Chen was still interested in taking it..." Feng Haoran explained with a bitter expression after being subjected to Feng Weiguo’s penetrating gaze.

Feng Weiguo’s expression worsened.

It was obvious that he didn’t buy Feng Haoran’s side of the story and was about to accuse him of not properly explaining the artefact’s uses when Yi Chen came forward to explain his side of the story, "Elder, Patriarch is right. I really found the artefact quite interesting and therefore decided to pick it. Who knows...in the future I might just end up in a situation where this artefact would be of great help to me."

Hearing those words, Feng Weiguo sighed and said, "You youngsters...just how will something like this be of any help to you? The replicas can’t even last for an hour and take almost a week to be formed..."

To this, Yi Chen just smiled and said, "Elder, I still feel that if I use it smartly, then it will be of great help to me."

Sensing that there was no trace of hesitation on Yi Chen’s face as he said those words, Feng Weiguo couldn’t help but shake his head. He was very familiar with that expression and had encountered it enough times to know that Yi Chen was quite adamant about his decision.

"You young people really are a piece of work, aren’t you? Fine, since Shadow Cloak is already a very beneficial artefact even if this mirror isn’t the best choice...it doesn’t matter much."

"Thank you for your understanding, Elder," Yi Chen said with a short bow.

"Alright then, you may leave. Remember to do your best at the Heavenly Azure Dragon Sect later and never get complacent, for growth stops the moment one becomes complacent about one’s strengths."

"I’ll keep Elder’s words in mind." Yi Chen thanked him for his words, and a few moments later he left for the staircase along with Feng Haoran.

When they came out of the Treasure Hall, the sun had already set, and seeing the night sky above him, a pang of hunger started to set in for Yi Chen.

"Time really passes quickly when you cannot see the sky, doesn’t it?" Feng Haoran asked with an amused smile while glancing at the starry sky above.

"Yes," Yi Chen nodded in acknowledgement, "I didn’t even realise it would be so dark outside by the time we came out."

Feng Haoran gestured a staff member to arrange a carriage for Yi Chen and while waiting for its arrival asked Yi Chen, "So what are your plans for tomorrow onwards? The entrance test is in just fourteen days, so it’s best if you start to ramp up your training."

"Yes, that’s exactly what I’m planning to do." Yi Chen nodded and explained, "Apart from my regular cultivation practice, I’ll be going to the Zhou Clan to train together with Zhou Mei, Patriarch Zhou Tian’s daughter, to gain familiarity with the test pattern."

"Oh?" Feng Haoran’s eyes rose in surprise as a glimmer appeared in them. "That’s a great decision. It would definitely be of great help to you during the entrance test."

Yi Chen nodded in acknowledgement as his carriage arrived the next second.

Feng Haoran gestured for Yi Chen to board it.

"I’ll be coming to wish you on the day of your departure. Train well until then." he said with a smile while waving his hand.

"Yes, Patriarch. I’ll do my best." Yi Chen smiled from inside the carriage while waving his hand back at him as the carriage soon began to move.

Feeling the cool night breeze upon his face, Yi Chen let out a sigh while glancing up at the sky. The serene light of the full moon made him feel calmer than usual, giving him some time to look back on the time he had spent here.

The very reason he had come to the Jade City was to give the Heavenly Azure Dragon Sect’s entrance test in the first place. Now that the event was just a few days away, he couldn’t help but feel a trace of excitement and anxiousness welling up inside him.

Thinking back on the days he had spent training with Zheng Ru when he was still in Murut Town, a trace of a smile subconsciously formed on his face.

"I wonder how Master Zheng is doing nowadays..." Yi Chen softly muttered with a smile as the carriage continued to make its way towards the manor.

After arriving back, he found Qin Yao, who had been waiting for him all along.

"Brother Chen, you’re right on time! I just finished making our dinner fifteen minutes ago, so it’s still warm!" He exclaimed with a bright smile.

"Thanks, Qin Yao. I’ll be doing the dishes today so you can focus on practising your cultivation after we are done with the dinner, you understand?" Yi Chen asked while patting him on the head.

"Mhm, I understand." Qin Yao answered with an enthusiastic nod while guiding Yi Chen to the dinner table.

A while later, they were enjoying a hearty meal as Yi Chen tried his best to satiate Qin Yao’s curiosity, as the boy kept asking him about all the treasures he encountered while inside the Clan’s Treasury.
