Chapter 355: Limitation
On the morning of the thirteenth day.
Yi Chen, along with Qin Yao, was sitting in a cross-legged position with his eyes directed straight ahead at Feng Lei, who was explaining the profoundness of the Crimson Fire Arts.
In the past few days, he had felt his understanding of the Crimson Fire Arts increasing at a pace he was finding too difficult to imagine.
Each word from Feng Lei’s teaching was no different from an elixir to him as the more he heard them, the more his understanding increased.
It was thanks to his teachings that his comprehension percentage, which was stuck at 88% for several months now, had risen to 89% after just a couple of days of listening to his daily lectures.
"Even in the state of nothingness, fire exists. Who created the rule that fire has to be visible in order to exist? That fire has to burn to be considered fire? Nature didn’t create these rules. It was..."
’So that’s how it is...’ Yi Chen’s eyes widened in realisation as the abstruse concepts which he had been unable to wrap his mind around were being easily explained to him by Feng Lei using real-life examples.
TAK!
It was at that instant that a subtle sound of something being broken through was heard by Yi Chen, but before he could figure out what was going on, a grating voice consumed his mind, robbing him of the ability to think.
ARGH!
Yi Chen exclaimed while tightly gripping his head.
His sudden actions naturally caused Feng Lei to pause and Qin Yao to look at Yi Chen with an expression filled with worry and confusion.
"Broth-"
He was about to call Yi Chen to ask what had just happened when he was cut off by Yi Chen’s crazy action of slamming his head right onto the ground while tightly clutching onto his head in pain.
ACKKKKKKKKK!
Qin Yao’s expression instantly turned aghast seeing this scene as he immediately grabbed onto Yi Chen’s body in an attempt to calm him down.
"Brother Chen! Brother Chen!" He kept shaking Yi Chen’s body, which was curled into a fetal position by now, as signs of painful groans kept hitting their ears, but thankfully, with each passing breath, the pain Yi Chen was experiencing seemed to be fading away.
Feng Lei, who had been observing this, didn’t react in as great a manner as Qin Yao did. However, a subtle trace of lines had still managed to form on his unperturbed face.
’He has finally reached it...’
Feng Lei thought to himself while making his way towards Yi Chen.
Meanwhile, in a half-conscious state, Yi Chen was finally able to clearly hear the deafening voice in his head that had started to calm down.
Dericia Fahir Meik Zerik...
Dericia Fahir Meik Zerik...
Dericia Fahir Meik Zerik...
With each repetition, its intensity kept decreasing as Yi Chen started to regain his ability to think properly.
’These words...’
It just took him a second to realise that the words echoing in his mind were the exact same ones he had read in the sheets that were once a part of Feng Mong Li’s diary.
However, before he could mull further into this strange phenomenon, his attention was drawn by the sound of footsteps that had come to a stop just a few inches away from his face.
Tilting his head to look up, Yi Chen saw Feng Lei looking straight at him.
"Stand up and follow me to my room. There’s something I need to tell you."
As Feng Lei said those words, he turned towards the manor’s entrance and started walking, not waiting for Yi Chen to even stand up properly.
Meanwhile, observing this confusing exchange, Qin Yao became more confused as a lot of questions started flooding his mind.
At that time, Feng Lei’s voice entered his ears, "Qin Yao, train on your own until I’m done talking with Yi Chen."
"Y-Yes, Master." Qin Yao answered while glancing towards Yi Chen, who was finally standing properly on his feet.
Seeing the visible bruise on his forehead, worry returned to his face. "Brother Chen...are you alright? What just happened?"
Hearing the question which even he didn’t know the answer to, Yi Chen just smiled lightly and tousled Qin Yao’s hair, "Yeah, I’m good now. I’ll go and talk with Elder Lei first as he’s waiting for me inside..."
Gesturing towards the manor’s entrance, he soon left Qin Yao’s side and made his way towards Feng Lei’s room.
’Does he know what just happened to me?’ Yi Chen thought with a doubtful expression as he followed Feng Lei to his room.
"Close the door behind you." Feng Lei instructed the moment Yi Chen passed through the door.
"Y-Yes."
Yi Chen closed the door before facing Feng Lei, an inquisitive expression evident on his face.
"That grating voice should have faded by now, right?" Feng Lei asked the next second.
"This..." Yi Chen’s eyes widened as it became clear to him that what just happened to him wasn’t just a one-off case, as he immediately concluded in his mind.
’All this... it’s definitely related to the Crimson Fire Arts...’
The only thing in common between him, Feng Mong Li and Feng Lei was the Crimson Fire Arts.
If not for this connection, it just didn’t make sense to him how the words that were written on Feng Mong Li’s diary sheets would suddenly flood his mind out of nowhere.
At the same time, a question popped up in his mind.
’Why?... Just why did it happen?’
"Don’t be so taken aback. This phenomenon is something almost everyone who reaches the barrier faces." Feng Lei explained with a calm expression.
"Barrier?" Yi Chen couldn’t help but ask with confusion evident on his face.
"Yes." Feng Lei nodded and said, "Unlike the other Qi Absorption Arts, the Crimson Fire Arts has a great limitation. A limitation because of which no one in our clan’s thousand-year-old history has managed to fully comprehend the Crimson Fire Arts..."
