I Was Forced To Marry The Phoenix Empress

Chapter 383: Inside the Test

Chapter 383: Inside the Test

Inside an extravagant bedroom decorated with finely crafted jade figurines and artefacts, two figures were lying comfortably on a large bed draped with white silk bedsheets.

The bright light of the morning seeped in from the open windows in front of the bed as the gentle morning breeze made the finely crafted red curtains blow inward.

Lying in each other’s embrace, both Feng Yu and Yi Chen were leisurely watching the vast cloudless sky outside the window while enjoying the rhythmic beating of each other’s hearts.

A few seconds later, Feng Yu lifted her head a little to meet Yi Chen’s eyes and asked with a playful smile, "I hope you’re able to recollect everything now?"

Her hand gently stroked Yi Chen’s bare chest as she waited for a response.

Seeing this, Yi Chen smiled brightly with amusement and warmth evident on his face. Lifting his hand to gently caress the edges of her face, he answered, "Y-Yes...Yes, I do."

With his finger wrapping around the back of her neck, he slowly pulled her head closer to his and locked his lips with hers.

Slow and unhurried.

Unlike the previous burst of passion, the two felt the softness of each other’s lips with no sense of time while drowning themselves in the feeling of warmth.

Several minutes later, which felt like only a moment to the two of them, Feng Yu gently pulled away from the kiss and said with a bashful smile, "It indeed seems like you remember..."

Not wanting to show this bashful side of hers any longer, she pressed her face onto his chest while tightly wrapping her arms around his chest.

Yi Chen lifted his body a little to allow her to get into a comfortable position and asked, "All good now?"

"Mhm~"

Feng Yu answered with a satisfied nod as they began communicating in silence once again, clearly hearing the subtle sound of each other’s breathing.

"Yu’er..." Yi Chen asked a few moments later.

"Yes?" Feng Yu replied instantly, with the side of her face still pressing on his chest.

"While I was away, were there moments when you missed me?... As you must have been extremely busy fighting against those demons, right? Moreover...you even have such a huge sect to handle...you must have been extremely busy."

At first, Yi Chen had just asked it playfully, but the longer he went on, the more confused he became as to why he framed it in that manner and, more precisely, what answer he was even looking for.

Meanwhile, hearing Yi Chen’s question, a deep frown formed on Feng Yu’s face, prompting her to turn her head upwards to meet Yi Chen’s eyes, which carried a trace of uncertainty that even Yi Chen was unaware of. "What are you talking about? There hasn’t been a moment where I didn’t think of you in these thousand years... I started my days thinking of you and ended them with you in my mind.

That’s also the very reason why even though we’re meeting after such a long time I couldn’t help but feel as if I’ve been with you all these years," she tightened her arms that were hugging Yi Chen’s chest and whispered, "for you’ve never left my mind at all...Chen’er."

"..."

Yi Chen’s hand immediately reached for Feng Yu’s nose the very next second and lightly pulled on it for a second.

"Ouch! Why did you do that?!" Feng Yu asked the very next moment, with a blaming expression evident on her face.

However, instead of answering her question, Yi Chen said with an expression that was turning more and more embarrassed by the second, "Stop doing stuff like that so abruptly..."

"Why? Did I say something wrong?" Feng Yu couldn’t help but look at him with a confused expression the very next second.

"N-No...it’s..." Yi Chen paused, a little hesitant to continue, but seeing Feng Yu’s inquisitive expression, he let his thoughts out the next second, a hint of embarrassment evident on his face, "...It’s because I’ll fall even harder for you if you keep saying things like that."

A bashful smile immediately formed on Feng Yu’s face when she heard those words as she let out a few chuckles to contain herself.

The next second, after recovering a little, she said with a playful smirk on her face, "But...that’s exactly what I want."

Not waiting to see Yi Chen’s face, which had started to turn red, Feng Yu once again rested her head comfortably on top of Yi Chen’s chest with a placid smile on her face.

Seeing this, Yi Chen wrapped his arm around her back, his thumb gently stroking her skin every few seconds as he enjoyed the moment alongside her.

Several minutes passed like this, but just when Feng Yu thought that this tranquil moment would last for an eternity, Yi Chen all of a sudden let out a light chuckle.

"Mhm? Why are you laughing all of a sudden?" she asked, lifting her head to meet his eyes the very next second, with curiosity evident on her face.

"I just remembered something..." Yi Chen muttered with an embarrassed smile on his face and, seeing the curiosity on Feng Yu’s face intensifying, continued, "It’s about something I realised while I was in the lower realm."

"Oh? What did you realise?"

Feng Yu’s eyes turned interested the moment she heard this as she placed her hand underneath her chin to fully get involved in what he was saying.

Yi Chen snorted in embarrassment once again as he thought of those moments and said, "It was something I used to ruminate over whenever my mind was lost in your thoughts..."

As Yi Chen said those words, he glanced in Feng Yu’s direction only to see the smile on her face turning warmer when she heard those words.

Seeing this, he continued with even greater enthusiasm, "...It was always a subject that would make me laugh at myself no matter how many times I thought about it..."

"You’re doing it on purpose, aren’t you, Chen’er? I’m dying of curiosity here, you know? So, tell me already!" Feng Yu complained while glaring at him with playful annoyance on her face.

"Alright...Alright..." Yi Chen let out a laugh seeing this side of her and finally completed what he wanted to say, "It was this simple fact that despite how deeply I love you, during the little over a month which we spent together at Murut Town...I never really confessed my love to you."

Hearing those words, a momentary frown formed on Feng Yu’s face as she widened her eyes in realisation the very next moment. "Y-You’re right! Now that I think of it, that really does seem to be the case."

"Indeed..." Yi Chen nodded as he turned to look outside the window the next moment, as if the conversation they had just had a moment ago never really happened.

It was at that moment he felt a subtle pinch on his chest, which made him trace his gaze back in Feng Yu’s direction, and there it was, the expression he had been waiting to see.

With eyes narrowed into a glare and annoyance that no longer looked playful, she grumbled the next second, "Are you still planning not to say it?... What are you waiting for?"

"Of course I am, but before that I wanted to see the cute expression my Yu’er makes when she’s angry." Yi Chen muttered while letting out a chuckle.

"Y-You!" Feng Yu snorted in clear annoyance at hearing those words, but the subtle curling of her lips was something that Yi Chen was clearly able to catch.

Grabbing onto her shoulders, he lifted himself up so that now the two were sitting on the bed facing each other the next second.

"It’s a little embarrassing...so I’ll say it only once." He muttered the next moment before taking in a deep breath.

Meanwhile, an expectant glimmer appeared in Feng Yu’s eyes as she waited for Yi Chen’s response with a hopeful smile.

’I’m finally saying it to her...’ Yi Chen thought to himself in both amusement and excitement as he finally let out the words that had been left unsaid for more than a thousand years.

"Yu’er... I love yo-"

SHATTER!

Like a pane of glass, the scene in front of him shattered into pieces the very next second, prompting Yi Chen to shout out loud.

"Yu’er!"

However, by the time those words left his lips, he found himself all alone with familiar darkness at his side.

"Yu’er! Where are you?!"

"Come out! You’re playing with me, right!"

His voice echoed in the vast expanse of darkness as he waited for a response that never arrived.

It was at that moment that the memories of the time he spent with his parents at that dinner table flooded his mind, causing an intense frown to appear on his face.

"Mom...Dad..." he muttered as he was reminded of his time at Beijing University, studying for hours every single day before finally securing a job and coming back to meet his parents.

The very next instant, memories of all the struggles he went through to make his way to Feng Yu’s realm before finally reuniting with her took over his mind.

"Yu’er..."

It was at that moment that a familiar voice reached his ears.
