I Was Forced To Marry The Phoenix Empress

Chapter 410: Trying to Visit

Chapter 410: Trying to Visit

"So, both Sister Lan and Sister Xie Rou have joined the Sixth Peak..." Yi Chen muttered while walking alongside Zhou Mei.

Both of them were currently making their way towards the bottom of the Sixth Peak.

"Yes, I confirmed it with Sister Hui Min yesterday. When I heard this news from her at that time, I was completely taken by surprise." Zhou Mei stated with a subtle trace of yesterday’s surprise still evident on her face.

"Surprised? Why?" Yi Chen asked after noticing her expression.

"It’s naturally because of the fact that they’ve joined one of the twelve peaks! Doesn’t Brother Chen understand what it means? It means that both of them have become Inner Sect Disciples, which implies that they have successfully broken through to the Qi Absorption Stage!"

Zhou Mei said with clenched fists as her eyes beamed in excitement.

Seeing this intense reaction, Yi Chen couldn’t help but smile awkwardly, clearly remembering how tremendously Xie Rou’s cultivation had jumped inside the tomb, going all the way from the Ninth Meridian Refinement Stage to the Seventh Qi Absorption Stage in one go.

’I wonder how far Little Mei will go when she realises that Sister Xie Rou had not just broken into the Qi Absorption Stage but was already at the Seventh Qi Absorption Stage.’

At the same moment, his eyes grew curious while thinking about Zhou Lan, ’So Sister Zhou Lan has also broken through?’

Back in the tomb, after failing to grab the opportunity, she was severely injured and cursed with the death hex.

At that time, he clearly remembered that her cultivation level was still at the Ninth Meridian Refinement Stage. When he had seen it back then, he had naturally thought that because of the crisis, she failed to gain anything from the tomb.

However, after hearing this news, he started thinking otherwise.

’Maybe Sister Lan did indeed gain something important from that realm gate...’

Yi Chen thought while feeling glad for her cultivation growth.

"What are you thinking about so deeply, Brother Chen?" Zhou Mei asked curiously, seeing that Yi Chen had been silent for a while.

"Me?" Hearing this, the subtle smile on Yi Chen’s face only widened as he said, in a teasing tone, the very next second, "I was just thinking how cute and unthreatening you’ll look while commanding several beasts at once after taking Beast Taming as your occupation. Haha..."

"You-!"

Zhou Mei’s face instantly turned red in anger and embarrassment the moment she heard those words, which only made Yi Chen laugh even harder than before.

"Stop laughing! It’s not funny!" she roared in anger, seeing that Yi Chen was still laughing at the top of his voice and snorted while folding her hands. "That’s it! I’m not talking with you any longer!"

"Hahaha..."

However, Yi Chen was least bothered by her protest and only stopped a few seconds later while wiping the tear droplets from the side of his eye.

Zhou Mei, who had been witnessing everything from the start, couldn’t help but develop an angry scowl and asked, eyes fuming with rage, "Laughed enough?"

Hearing those words, Yi Chen finally calmed himself and asked, "But still...what was your reasoning behind choosing that kind of occupation? Though we still have a week to decide, from the way you stated your desired occupation, it was evident that you plan on sticking with it until the end."

As Yi Chen said those words, the amusement in his eyes turned to natural curiosity.

When Zhou Mei heard that question, the anger on her face was instantly reined in, and its place was taken over by a difficult expression.

Seeing this unexpected change, Yi Chen couldn’t help but furrow his brows.

He had only asked jokingly, not expecting a very serious answer, but seeing her unexpected reaction to it, he couldn’t help but think, in the very next moment, ’Could it be that there’s a deeper reason behind her decision?’

"I-I...I’ll tell you about it later." Zhou Mei answered a few seconds later.

’Well, it doesn’t seem like pushing her for an answer would help, so I’ll just wait until she tells me herself.’ Yi Chen thought to himself and nodded, "Alright. I’ll wait then."

He wasn’t in any hurry anyway, so he didn’t mind waiting.

"Yes..."

Zhou Mei responded with a tone that was much lower than before while immersed in her thoughts.

Seeing this, Yi Chen realised that she was finding it difficult to continue their conversation after their previous exchange.

Therefore, he soon steered the conversation in a completely different direction, asking her about how she was planning to spend her time with her sister after meeting her again after months.

With each answer, her face regained its natural brightness, and her mood was no longer as dull as before.

While this was going on, the two of them were still walking towards their destination, and a little more than half an hour later they finally arrived at the bottom of the Sixth Peak.

A singular gate with no walls next to it was standing tall in front of their eyes, and through it was a dirt path which led towards the mountain’s top. It was the only clear pathway to the peak, as the surroundings were filled with dense vegetation.

On either side of the gate pillar, a First Qi Absorption Stage cultivator was standing. They were wearing robes which were entirely blue in colour, which clearly revealed their identity as the Inner Sect Disciples.

Seeing their arrival, one of them took a step forward and stopped the two of them.

"Hold on! Only Inner Sect Disciples and people associated with them are allowed entry into the peak. Reveal your identity and your purpose for visiting our peak," the Inner Sect Disciple asked the next moment.

"Senior Brother, I’m a newly joined disciple. My sister is an inner sect disciple on this peak, and I’ve come to visit her." Zhou Mei explained the very next moment, telling them how she was here to visit Zhou Lan and Xie Rou.

"Oh?"

Hearing this, the inner sect disciple nodded and soon went up the mountain using a movement technique to confirm the details Zhou Mei had just told him.

It didn’t take long, as just about five minutes later the inner sect disciple returned from the top.

"Junior Sister, your elder sister, Sister Zhou Lan, is currently out of the sect on a mission. It’s been more than a week since she’s gone..."

The inner sect disciple answered, though his tone had undergone an obvious change, carrying a great sense of respect which wasn’t present in it earlier.

Hearing this news, a frown formed on Zhou Mei’s face as she asked the next moment, "Then... what about my sister’s friend? Sister Xie Rou? Did she also go with her?"

The Inner Sect Disciple instantly nodded upon hearing her question, "Y-yes, E-Elder Xie Rou... she has also left alongside Sister Zhou Lan for the mission."

"E-Elder Xie Rou...?!" Zhou Mei’s eyes widened the moment she heard the title with which Xie Rou was addressed.

....

Step

Step

Step.

After realising that both Zhou Lan and Xie Rou were out of the sect, the two of them were currently making their way back to their quarters.

Zhou Mei let out a sigh the next moment, "Haah... No wonder they didn’t come to see me despite knowing that I would have certainly made it to the sect."

The next second, she turned towards Yi Chen and asked with narrowed eyes, "Brother Chen... You already knew that Sister Xie Rou’s cultivation is at the Seventh Qi Absorption Stage, didn’t you? There’s no way you would have been so nonchalant at the revelation otherwise."

"Well, yeah. I already knew that she was at the Seventh Qi Absorption Stage, but still I was indeed a little surprised when I heard that she had gained the status of an Elder in the sect." Yi Chen answered with an impressed expression, causing Zhou Mei to snort in annoyance.

"Surprised my ass! There’s not even a trace of surprise in that face of yours! Moreover, if you knew it, why didn’t you tell me about this earlier?" she asked in an aggrieved fashion.

"Haaah? How is it my fault? You never asked me in the first place. If you were so curious, you should have asked about it earlier. Since you didn’t, then you only have yourself to blame now, don’t you?"

Yi Chen answered in a carefree manner, causing Zhou Mei to growl inwardly from irritation.

She knew that what he had said was right, but the way he had said it was enough for her to curse out in rage.

Just when she was about to lash out and give Yi Chen a piece of her mind, someone called her name from behind.

"Junior Sister Mei!"

Hearing this, both Yi Chen and Zhou Mei turned around and saw a disciple coming their way. He was wearing the same robes as them, and behind him was a five-member group, all consisting of Outer Sect Disciples.

The moment their eyes fell on that person, both Yi Chen and Zhou Mei frowned.

While one knew exactly who the other party was, the other had no clue about him at all.

’This guy... who is he?’ Yi Chen thought with a frown the moment he saw the unfamiliar person coming in their direction and opened his status panel the very next moment.
