I Was Forced To Marry The Phoenix Empress

Chapter 452: Going to the City

Chapter 452: Going to the City

After barely convincing Sister Yun Xi and the others, who had all arrived at the dining hall by now, not to worry about him, the situation at his table finally calmed down a little.

"Brother Chen, I believe your judgment! You’ll definitely be able to defeat that guy!" Dong Yun exclaimed the very next moment, attracting glares from Yun Xi, Zhou Mei and the other girls.

Cough! Cough!

Hearing those words, Qin Yao coughed a couple of times before adding, "I agree, Brother Chen... you’re someone who was able to defeat Ninth Meridian Refinement Stage cultivators when you were just at the Fifth Meridian Refinement Stage!

Now that you’re at the Ninth Meridian Refinement Stage, it’s only natural that you would possess enough strength to be able to deal with a Qi Absorption Stage cultivator."

"Qin Yao, you!" Hearing those words, Feng Min glared at Qin Yao together with the rest and was about to scold him, but before that could happen, Yi Chen managed to console them yet again.

"As Qin Yao said just now, since I’ve already achieved something like that in the past, isn’t it only obvious for me to be able to do the same in the future as well? Moreover, even if I’m wrong, it’s not like a death duel; I can always give up on it in between if things don’t go according to my plans, can’t I?"

Those words seemed to have worked, as Yi Chen soon shifted the topic of the conversation towards them so that they would no longer talk about this issue.

With that done, he soon finished his lunch and left the dining hall in a hurry with the excuse of getting back to refining as fast as possible.

’Was it Grand Elder Jian?... it must be!’ Yi Chen thought as he stepped out, cursing Elder Jian in his mind several times for stirring up his life that had just started to turn peaceful.

He had guessed right, for it was indeed Grand Elder Jian who had given Elder Yu Xong additional instructions to spread those conditions for Yi Chen’s duel.

Tch...

Clicking his tongue in annoyance, he made his way back towards the pill refining hall while being the target of everyone’s attention along the way.

"Is he crazy? He’s only at Meridian Refinement Stage!"

"Just because he defeated someone in a death duel, he thinks he’s some bigshot? The Inner Sect disciple will definitely make him eat his words."

"You’re correct! Even though Senior Brother Wu Dong is at the bottom of the Azure Blue Ranking, a Ninth Meridian Refinement Stage cultivator is still no match for him!"

"Fools really are courageous..."

Hearing the same pattern of words again and again, Yi Chen was filled with annoyance by the time he reached his room.

"Are those bastards NPCs or what? Repeating the same thing again and again in different ways! Bloody rascals..."

Yi Chen snorted in annoyance the very next moment, and instead of refining pills as he practised, he decided to practice his swordsmanship for the next couple of hours to calm his turbulent mind.

Sitting in a comfortable position on the floor, he took out his memory jade slip and, for the first fifteen minutes, slowly analysed Grand Elder Jian’s moves as minutely as possible.

He had already watched it tens of times by now, which had aided him greatly in this short period, but despite that, he still knew that there was still a lot more he could learn from watching those three moves, even though it had become more difficult compared to earlier.

Fifteen minutes later, he stood up and started practising the three moves relentlessly for the next couple of hours and with that done, he devoted the rest of his day to refining pills and reading books.

With nothing else on his plate, he kept up with this routine day after day and only changed it slightly on occasions when he needed to get some new books from the library for reading.

Three weeks passed by in this manner, and during this period Yi Chen noticed great progress in all the areas he had been devoting his focus towards.

Just a couple of days ago, he had also completed the system’s mission and had been rewarded with 50,000 EXP points after refining more than a thousand pills.

While refining the pills, he kept noting down all the small doubts which would pop into his mind, and he could clear them out by asking Elder Ru Qi directly through the Sound Transmission Stone.

Since he had yet to reveal to her that he could freely use his spiritual energy to refine his pills, his doubts were somewhat limited but still greatly helped in strengthening his base during this period.

Moreover, his cultivation had also seen a steady increase, and it was the same with his swordsmanship, which had increased by almost five thousand points in this short period.

[Expert Swordsmanship (Progress: 53456 -> 58,583 / 10,000,000)]

Currently, Yi Chen was sitting on his bed and was reading one of the several books on pill-refining books that interested him.

He seemed fully absorbed, his eyes glued to it since he woke up that morning, staring at it all the way until late evening.

Usually, he wouldn’t have done that and would have resorted to equally dividing all the tasks throughout the day. However, today it was different.

The reason for this was the book in Yi Chen’s hands. From the batch of books he had recently borrowed from the library, this one was the only one left to finish.

"Phew... It’s finally done." Yi Chen muttered with a grin while letting out a relieved sigh the very next moment.

Placing the thick book back in his storage ring, he lay back on his bed while looking at the ceiling; a hint of anticipation was evident on his face as he did so.

"With my current knowledge, I’m more than just confident in being able to clear that written exam now..." he muttered with a grin and continued, "It’s the same with the Pill Refining test, so it’s finally time to get myself registered as a Pill Apprentice!"

With those thoughts in mind, he soon went out for dinner before finally calling it a day.
